To inform them all (probably leave Dh out of the round robin) that I do not want to have sex with them unless and until further formal notice from me?

As it seems that there is such confusion among so many people about the nature of consent I want to avoid putting any of them in the terribly awkward position of wondering whether simply being in the same room as them means they are invited to stick their dick in me.
So is that an unreasonable proposition?

Sexy without consent is rape though?

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/01/2015 14:12

Not sexy, sex

Yes because rape is all about sexual attraction and not about power, that's why children and elderly women never get raped....oh no, wait, hang on a minute....

I know what you mean OP. The thing that has made me angriest about the Ched Evans situation has been the harassment that the victim has been subjected to, merely for, what, not just lying back and thinking of England? That to me just sends a very clear message of "women - we own you. We have total rights to your body and don't you dare object" from a worrying number of people.

Obviously not all men are rapists. But an alarming number of both men and women seem to put an awful lot of conditions on a woman's right to consent.

ILovePud · 08/01/2015 14:13

No rape isn't funny, she isn't laughing at rape nor is it deriding men in general, the joke is deriding the minority who think that they have the right to rape and those people who've been out in force over the past few weeks who have a very fucked up idea around consent. I thought it was a witty post.

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/01/2015 14:13

The op is talking about rape though, not trying to say she is irresistible to all men

Penguinsaresmall · 08/01/2015 14:14

onlylovers actually the OP said To inform them all (probably leave Dh out of the round robin) that I do not want to have sex with them unless and until further formal notice from me?

Surely the inference there is that they are all potential rapists.

Ched Evans disgusts me. Any discussion dealing with the facts will get my support, but IMO threads like this one are doing women no favours.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 08/01/2015 14:18

Get over mySelf?
No.
I am not saying that I am irresistible.
I am suggesting that too many people believe that many female victims of rape were either not raped because they were "asking for it" ( with spurious excuses such as what they were drinking or wearing) or in some way to blame for being raped.

And i doubt that rape, always an act of violence (unless you're a believer of what JF says on the subject) has an awful lot to do with "attractiveness"
But way to keep up the myth there.

StarsOfTrackAndField · 08/01/2015 14:19

OP I have no desire to have sex with you or any other woman other than my wife. Even less so without their explicit consent (which I have no trouble understanding incidentally)

Condemn Ched Evans and his apologists, but please don't tar me with the same brush.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 08/01/2015 14:20

women we own you
I know what you mean book of truth
Its infuriating.

OP posts:
TheRealAmandaClarke · 08/01/2015 14:21

not a joke.
But yes, an offering of sardonic wit.

OnlyLovers · 08/01/2015 14:21

TheCow, 'Sex without consent is rape though?'

Yes, I know. Hmm I don't understand your point.

Penguins, yes,she did. She also said, and this is what I was responding to, that there is 'confusion among so many people about the nature of consent'.

ApocalypseThen · 08/01/2015 14:23

I think you're on to something, RealAmanda. My problem would be that those who aren't great at keeping up with their correspondence might miss the memo.

LadyLuck10 · 08/01/2015 14:25

You think too much of yourself op. In pretty sure it's a very tiny minority who would actually want to sleep with you, but you go ahead then thinking the whole world would want toHmm

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/01/2015 14:25

Only lovers, you said the op was not only referring to the act of rape, my point was that since sex without consent is rape, that is indeed what the op is referring to

whatsthatcomingoverthehill · 08/01/2015 14:25

Why leave your DH out of it? I thought most rapes were by partners.

ginslinger · 08/01/2015 14:26

I remember the days when people recognised irony.

I wonder if you are the real Amanda Clarke Grin

TheBookofRuth · 08/01/2015 14:27

Bangs head repeatedly on wall

Most women are not raped because they are so blistering attractive that the poor menz just can't help themselves!!!

ofshoes · 08/01/2015 14:27

The 'all men are rapists' vibe does kinda take the edge off the "sardonic wit" though. Maybe think twice about stand up as a serious career choice

TheRealAmandaClarke · 08/01/2015 14:29

I dont think the whole world wants to have sex with me. Confused

Whether you agree it was "witty" or not it surely cant be that difficult to understand that the point was sardonic, and comes from frustration over wondering what the hell do women have to do to defend themselves?
There are too many people who are apologists for rapists.

And clearly, some who are just not very bright.

OP posts:
TheCowThatLaughs · 08/01/2015 14:29

I didn't read it as all men are rapists, it's obvious that they're not, but if such a letter cleared things up for the minority that are, then surely the non-rapists wouldn't be too put out to get a letter? (Yes I know it's not real)

TheRealAmandaClarke · 08/01/2015 14:30

Just call me Ems Wink

OP posts:
OnlyLovers · 08/01/2015 14:30

TheCow, yes, she is referring to the act of rape.

She is, however, as both you and I say, not referring ONLY to the ACT of rape; she is ALSO referring to, and I quote the OP again, 'confusion among so many people about the nature of consent'.

If we can agree that by 'rape' we both mean 'sex without consent' – penetration or other sexual acts perpetrated by a man on a woman non-consensually – and by 'the nature of consent' we mean what consent entails, then hopefully you can understand why I said that some women as well as some men could do with being written to about the nature of consent.

Zame · 08/01/2015 14:31

I understand what you're saying op,
Quite disturbed by the posters who are getting all outraged and suggesting that you're only a target for A rapist if you're beautiful

TheRealAmandaClarke · 08/01/2015 14:31

Yes cow
I can sign it from everyone if you like, just so its clear that I am not considering myself to be too fuckable.
