The attack on Charlie Hebdo.
Shall we have 3 guesses who's responsible?

Buddhists can be as violent as anyone else, they have been responsible for atrocities in Burma and Sri Lanka

LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 14:25

ghostland

by partially quoting you have reversed what I intended Grin.

LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 14:27

Buddhists humans can be as violent as anyone else, they have been responsible for atrocities in Burma and Sri Lanka

fixed that for you Grin

RandomNPC · 09/01/2015 14:30

Don't patronise me, LH, I posted that because sometimes Buddhism gets an easy ride when compared to Islam, Christianity etc.

FlowerFairy2014 · 09/01/2015 14:36

On the whole there are more killings by Muslims though than hindus, buddhists etc on the planet at the moment. That does not mean countries like China and USA which have the death penalty are not killing nor that North Korea does not do its fair share but if we had to pick which religion is making making any invented God cry most at once it is Islam.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/01/2015 14:44

Hmm. I made mistake of checking thread.

Chicken. Don't patronise me. I didn't panic or try to shut you down.

I answered your post and said your views made me sad. I'm sure they don't make you sad and you are quite happy with them.

No shutting down panicking or screaming here, thanks very much. These sort of comments are your way of trying to shut ME down. And it's not even needed as I don't want this debate.

LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 14:46

I wasn't trying to start a who's killed who league, and haven't defended Buddhists (by the way). And I certainly did not intend to be patronising - hence the Grin which was meant to imply underlying agreement.

I really need to get the hang of this interweb.

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 14:53

Oh I brought up the Ottoman empire to say this kind of thing has happened again, but it has been conveniently forgotten about as no one wants to know this.

We can always view current events based on previous historical events. I am currently enjoying being shot down so to speak on another thread about bringing back the death penalty to anyone convicted of terror crimes. It is true Terror can never be rehabilitated and we should look to the past in how this has happened in the past.
Do people view Nazi's the same way,the Gestapo? The kgb? Would people be so happy to read about previous worl wars if our own forces didnt step in and do anything? Just allowed Hitler and his henchmen to sweep through Europe leaving atrocities in their wake?

Username12345 · 09/01/2015 14:56

So much bullshit on this thread. My eyes nearly rolled back into my head!

adsy · 09/01/2015 15:00

Which particular bullshit are you alluding to?

OP posts:
LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 15:03

Tsoukalosy

what was the definition of "terrorism" you wanted people executed for, by the way ?

Include in your answer examples and references that allow for actions of the UK, US, French, Spanish, and Holy Roman Empires to not be called terrorism. Extra points will be granted if you can also discuss Palestinian independence and the creation of the State of Israel, the Mau Mau uprisings and the creation of the Country of Kenya, and the arrest and incarceration of Nelson Mandela for conspiring to commit acts of terrorism against the South African State. If time permits you may try to reach a satisfying narrative by concluding with the Good Friday agreement, and release of IRA/Sinn Fein members who were released despite being convicted of murder.

see you in a while Grin

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 15:03

Username care to venture any opinion on anything at all? This is a debate about peoples real fears right now. Proclaiming bullshit with no follow up?

RandomNPC · 09/01/2015 15:04

Fascinating insight,
Username. Care to expand on that?

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 15:06

Haha, well we could focus on all the terrorism groups that have been around including christians IRA incl. We can talk about the crusades as well, but I think the terror threats and actions now are with Islam so thatw where my focus lies, I only conclude one example (Otto) As I don't want to be that boring historian :)

As for terrorism any act or plot to kill people (based on an ideology so religion, political motivation, race motivation, such as past incidents of Romany persecution in Moldova, Bosnia etc where they were killed.)

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 15:09

I also once wrote a paper on Nelson Mandela as a terrorist and provoked a lot of anger Grin

adsy · 09/01/2015 15:12

He was a terrorist, though.

For any Muslims from moderate and kind families I should hope and expect them to be fine and dandy. We forget in any cities we have school with Muslim families. A smile and some mutual tolerance goes a long way for us all.

Where the problem arises with maybe within families or friendship groups with less moderate cultures. I assume they exist and not sure how many of them there really are .

I do hope that for the rest of us we a keep smiling at each other - more so than ever

LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 15:13

Tsoukalosy so the entire British cabinet 1939-1945 would have been executed GrinGrin

Terrorism is suspiciously akin to pornography. Annoyingly hard to define[1], but "I know it when I see it" Hmm

[1]Without using the phrase "except us" Smile

LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 15:14

Tsoukalosy

Oh, and the UK government doesn't agree. Owning an A-Z, or reading out names is a terrorist act.

LurkingHusband · 09/01/2015 15:16

Nelson Mandela, David ben Gurion, Jomo Kenyatta - freedom fighters

Che Guevara, Osama bin Laden, Bobby Sands - terrorists

I wonder what separates them Confused ?

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 09/01/2015 15:17

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 15:17

The point is the dates. We have moved on a lot from the 1940s. And killing to protect a nation from threat and killing to take over a nation are two entirely different things.

If I had a diary in my bedroom with detailed plans to plant bombs and acquire weapons to assault and kill people in a supermarket then I would damn well expect nothing less than execution if I was caught.

adsy · 09/01/2015 15:17

lurking what are you on about with the a - z and reading out names. Gonna be difficult for teachers taking the register

OP posts:
Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 15:18

Malcoln X was also a terrorist but for the sake of sensibilities everyone can pretend otherwise.

Username12345 · 09/01/2015 15:22

Where does one start?

12 pages of it. It's hard to focus on specifics without getting a headache.

The whole Islam is a big, bad religion is getting old for a start.

Tsoukalosy "But we are aloud to critisise a religion that thinks its better than everyone else"

That's a bit rich when the atheists on this thread feel the need to mock others who believe in god - they're 'nutters'?
'we atheists are pretty reasonable people.'

I'm all for a reasonable debate on religion. But when you start to demean others rather than put forward a cogent argument. You've already lost.
