If not, here it is. www.cmsolicitors.co.uk

they won't give a dam,

It's damn fgs. If you're going to be pompous, then at least spell correctly.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 07/01/2015 13:02

WTAF is this article in the Norther Echo?!

www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/features/11705494.Treatment_of_Ched_Evans_is_an_injustice/

Was it really rape, or was it rough, drunken sex?

I'm surprised actually, that given Evans has been convicted of rape, they are even allowed to print that sort of conjecture.

It totally sums up the glaringly obvious crux of this case, which is that many, many people don't really think what he did was rape. If this had been a 'real rape' with Evans waiting in the bushes wearing a trench coat, knife in hand, and the victim had been out jogging in a tracksuit stone cold sober, and she shouted 'no' at a sufficiently high volume, and tried to push him off with a satisfactory amount of strength, with the signs of a struggle to prove it, then there is no way he would be signing to Oldham tomorrow.

PhaedraIsMyName · 07/01/2015 13:03

Can you explain why, the considered response of a law firm speaks volumes was written in such poor English?

If I were a partner in that firm I would be embarrassed by the poor grammar and sentence construction.

If I were looking for a solicitor I would not pick them. It shows lack of attention to detail.

Sallyingforth · 07/01/2015 13:04

It deeply depressing that so many men see this as something any man would do. It's not true. All right thinking men view his behaviour with abhorrence.
Amen to that. I overheard DP and a friend talking about "the sickening way they treated that poor girl in the hotel".
There certainly are some men who laugh at rape but I genuinely believe they are in a minority.

Jux · 07/01/2015 13:05

Oh dear, CM legal eagles are really not the brightest bunch are they?

I wouldn't be surprised if CM haven't already complained/threatened MN about this thread. If so I trust MNHQ will stand firm.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 07/01/2015 13:21

The thing that keeps being glossed over is that this wasn't a 'date rape' this was a 'rape rape'. the different way that people react to the two sickens me, btw, if you see rape as having some kind of continuum, you really need to get some help with your humanity

This excuse for a human being received a text from a friend while he was in a taxi going home. That text said 'got a bird' or words to that effect. He then turned his cab around to go to the hotel, lied to get a room key, let himself in, watched his friend having sex with a semi-conscious woman, asked his friend if he could 'have a go' and raped her. He then sneaked out via the fire escape, like the criminal he is and left her.

He didn't know this woman, they hadn't been out for a couple of drinks, he didn't even think she was worth talking to. He just saw her as a series of holes to be violated, like every other rapist. He is not a special case. He is a criminal.

peterharthan.com/Peter_Harthan/Legal_Blog/Entries/2015/1/6_Dear_oh_dear....html

interesting piece written by a Latics fan apologies for the fact that reading it will make your eyes go funny.

I'm keeping an eye on my clubs forum for comments on this and the overriding majority is that rce shouldn't be touched with a barge pole. Interestingly we have to play them at Boundary park sometime soon and I'm wondering what our fans will do, whether they will go, how they will react, going on mass and turning their backs if he comes on the pitch or just not going at all, whatever they do I can guarantee they won't just ignore it.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 07/01/2015 13:28

I'm glad my team won't be playing them any time soon. I would struggle to explain all this to my young kids.

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 13:31

Well my post proved one thing. MNers are infinitely more qualified to be the grammar and spelling police than they are to be employment or criminal lawyers. I'm checking out of this thread now, far more important things going on in the world.

Steben · 07/01/2015 13:34

Just posted on this in AIBU - if he does play at the weekend is anyone planning a protest?

WeirdCatLady · 07/01/2015 13:37

I can't believe Oldham are doing this.

slug · 07/01/2015 13:39

Oh Dear Lurking. Did it not occur to you that there are mothers who are criminal lawyers as well? Hmm

PuffinsAreFictitious · 07/01/2015 13:40

No Lurking, your post defended the indefensible, and a few lawyers called you out on that, but feel free to couch it in whatever terms you feel most comfortable with.

Idontseeanysontarans · 07/01/2015 13:47

They've lost a sponsor already? First of many I suspect.
Good.

FreudiansSlipper · 07/01/2015 13:48

just been announced on news that Evans shall be signing a contract Angry

but a sponsor is withdrawing not sure which sponsor but hopefully others may follow its a start

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 13:49

So Oldham Athletic's values are now abundantly clear. They think having a convicted rapist in their team is fine.

If the FA had any decency they'd revoke his registration and charge Oldham with bringing the game into disrepute.

Jux · 07/01/2015 13:50

Don't be silly slug. We are mothers And therefore do not figure in anything important like, ooh, football, or rape; we exist only to serve the important people in the world, like footballers and rape apologists. Hmm

FreudiansSlipper · 07/01/2015 13:51

lets hope so ilovesooty

I think it is encouraging that a sponsor has withdrawn

Icimoi · 07/01/2015 13:51

And of course there are many, many mothers who are employment lawyers, including a number on this site.

I must say, Lurking's attitude to women doesn't give the best impression of his firm's attitude to them. I trust any female employees and clients are taking note: in their shoes I would worry anyway about association with a firm which apparently is happy to support a football club which wants to employ a rapist who refuses to acknowledge what he has done.

limitedperiodonly · 07/01/2015 13:51

Willferrellisactuallykindahot I've just clicked that link of yours to be confronted by the familiar grim image of him looking exactly like an offender in a police mugshot.

It may even be a police mugshot.

It may be flippant of me, but I really want to know why his friends and supporters persist in using images where he looks either threatening or slack-jawed and moronic?

Is there no money in his future FIL's kitty for a few pix of Ched cuddling kittens that could be used instead?

I realise it wouldn't be appropriate for a convicted rapist like Ched Evans to be pictured cuddling orphans. Particular girl ones. Girl kittens might be pushing it too.

Idontseeanysontarans · 07/01/2015 13:51

Jesus...
Avoid Oldham Athletic on Twitter unless you want your bp to go up. For every person condemning OA there's 3 standing up for them and CE.
