They are obviously going to sign him.

The saddest thing about all of this in my opinion, is the number of people, who even with all the facts explained to them, still think its not rape, or at least a "grey area".

Regardless of whether Ched Evans believes she said yes to him joining in (as per his testimony), the fact that she was as drunk as she was makes that yes irrelevant. Inability to consent due to intoxication means no. He should have walked away, preferably after checking she was OK!

On top of that, OA obviously feel his cheap : skill ratio is worth a go, and I suspect they are hoping that it will all die down, and that when he has scored several goals for them, and got them out of relegation all will be forgiven, and fans and sponsors will return. Sadly I suspect this may well be the case.

DS2 supports a team who is in the same league. He has a season ticket, attends all home games, and goes to as many away ones as he can. I guarantee he will not be attending any match against OA certainly for as long as Ched Evans plays for them, and possibly after.

MissPenelopeLumawoo2 · 07/01/2015 14:22

Yes, that routinely happens. Whenever an away side comes to town they almost always parade at least 3 of their high profile players through the home sides town centre......

Um, I meant on the pitch actually. I certainly believe you are NOT a lawyer Lurking....

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 14:23

Like I said, couldn't resist and I'm responding to direct comments. Seem to be getting a response or would you all rather just post away agreeing and patting one another on the back.

Please help me out here, what are my views on rapists that I have disclosed in this thread?

LineRunner · 07/01/2015 14:26

You got a Chedgenda, Usually?

merrymouse · 07/01/2015 14:27

I read that article in the Northern Echo - apparently the writer is the Church of England's very own version of Katie Hopkins.

we shouldn't live in a society where the most effective Internet campaign makes the society's decisions.

No, we shouldn't live in a society where many people persist in the belief that it is absolutely fine to respond to a text from your mate that he has a 'bird', (picked up so drunk she could barely stand in the street) and respond by breaking into the hotel room and sending your other mates round the back to film you having sex with her.

You know why it isn't OK? because we might run into that kind of person, on a dark night, at an office party, in the photocopier room, at a pub, even on a date, and worse our daughters might run into them. You can be raped when you are drunk and you can be raped when you are married. Rape is sex without consent. Call it flaming, call it a witch hunt, call it people jumping on the band wagon, but we will keep saying that over and over again until the message gets through.

Ironically CE's website and the actions of his fan club just strengthen the argument that he has no place in any public role.

HaroldsBishop · 07/01/2015 14:29

London Rach I'm sure they will be expecting chants from supporters. I remember going to a game when Lee Hughes played and he had "murderer" chanted at him the whole game.

I bet most people don't know who Lee Hughes is, or what he did. Ditto Luke McCormick. Ditto Hope Solo. It all gets forgotten in the mist of time.

No he's been signed the same thing will probably happen with CE unfortunately Sad

spence82 · 07/01/2015 14:32

Lee Hughes at the time was a much more high profile player than ched evans ever was.

limitedperiodonly · 07/01/2015 14:33

Maybe some opposition fans will turn up with 'rapist' banners??

I imagine they will MissPenelopeLumawoo2 and I also imagine they'll be taken away and if sneaked in and unfurled the TV cameras will quickly move away. Are Oldham Athletic games generally televised? Wink

But I'm not sure whether they'll do it in the spirit that I'd like. Though I think many football fans, most of whom are men, are disgusted, I think some morons will see it as amusing banter, like the people who hiss at Spurs.

I hate the word 'banter' wherever it appears, especially on MN. That's me being PO.

Sadly, I don't think Oldham will care about being called The Rapists. I think they will find it funny and in the fullness of time forget all about this.

Greysanderson · 07/01/2015 14:35

Only a boycott by OA fans will mean anything now. The sponsors that said they will leave have done so and the rest have pretty much said they are going to stick by OA decision. Petitions won't mean anything now and sadly mumsnetters won't make up much of the OAs fan base if they are even a fan of football.

However people can ask those in power to possibly change the law so that those who commit serious crimes such as murder GBH and rape can not work in 'entertainer' positions in future there seems to be an appetite for it.

grimbletart · 07/01/2015 14:35

WillFerrell said "If this had been a 'real rape' with Evans waiting in the bushes wearing a trench coat, knife in hand, and the victim had been out jogging in a tracksuit stone cold sober, and she shouted 'no' at a sufficiently high volume, and tried to push him off with a satisfactory amount of strength, with the signs of a struggle to prove it, then there is no way he would be signing to Oldham tomorrow".

Do you know Will – actually I wouldn’t be surprised if he would still have been signed up if he was the archetypal “real” rapist.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread on FWR asking what the hell has to happen to get a unanimous conviction for rape if this nightmare scenario (below) gets only a majority verdict.

www.bedfordtoday.co.uk/news/local/rapist-given-life-for-sex-attacks-on-barmaid-walking-home-1-6483784

That tells us that there are people out there who believe that rape does not exist in any form. This is the mindset I suspect that inhabits the heads of many of CE's supporters.

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 14:36

Look forward to hearing the chants of "Ched Evans he fucks who he wants" Angry

This is absolutely absurd. I've had the 'pleasure' of watching OA play. It's not entertaining.

The fact is, for all the crap people write on here (and presumably on Faceache and Twitter) their 'outrage' will not in reality translate into any tangible disadvantage to either the club or their sponsors. They know this. The outrage on social media is exactly that. Liking facebook statuses won't "kick cancer's butt" and pontificating on here won't keep CE out of football (and nor should it in my opinion).

Verlin Rainwater Solutions. Try harder.

They will do that, won't they ilovesooty?

It's depressing, yet predictable.

If this was a racially-aggravated assault, there would have been no coming back for the Rapist Ched Evans.

Not that I think the moronic amongst the football-following have had a Damascene conversion to racial awareness. It's just that they fear being banned and their clubs fear sanctions from the FA.

I wonder the FA regret instituting Kick It Out.

It looks lovely on the mission statement but it gets in the way of making money and those n*s are so uppity.

In this case, BAME men have managed to achieve more power than women.

Good luck to them. Maybe one day women will achieve the same status. Or gay people. I don't hold my breath. Not while people like Clayton McDonald are around.

There are obviously men of all colours who believe in equality for all people.

McDonald isn't one of them.

MaliceInWinterWonderland78 · 07/01/2015 15:02

apologies, I should have written 'long-term disadvantage'

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 15:06

How is naming one sponsor who has withdrawn a "tangible disadvantage"

Most of these decisions on withdrawing sponsorship are linked to the status of the existing contract. If verlins deal expired this summer Oldham have already likely had most (if not all) of the financial benefit and verlins are simply taking advantage of the additional publicity by withdrawing now. They will be replaced and the club won't really suffer.

Tangible.....try harder

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 15:08

For those of you saying if it was racially aggravated it would be different try googling "woodgate, bowyer and morris"

I think woodgate moved to Real Madrid a few months later.......

EmDuffers · 07/01/2015 15:08

Why can't serving your time be enough for some people?

Would you all be happier to have the death sentence?

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 15:10

I think it's utterly depressing how many seem to think that having the rapist Ched Evans associated with professional football is in any way ok.

londonrach · 07/01/2015 15:10

Bof just watched that clip. Nothing needs to be said as that guy in the blue jacket comes out really badly! I kinda felt sorry for him as he was well out if his depth.

merrymouse · 07/01/2015 15:10

I don't want to stop CE from playing football. He can play as much keepy uppy as he likes as far as I am concerned, and he seems to have enough supporters to form a couple of 5 aside teams. I'm also happy for him to earn a living, and it seems that with such a strangely supportive future father in law, he has a better than average chance of finding a job quite quickly.

Really, I am happy for him to do quite a lot of things - just not a job where 1000's of people are invited to cheer him on every week, thereby endorsing his nasty activities and views and those of his supporters.
