Actually I don't believe I am being unreasonable. But wanted to bring it to attention.

MN seems to be a quiet on this today but I think the fight should still go on. I can't link to it as I am so not tech savvy enough but it is on change.org. (Same person whk set up the Sheffield Weds one so of you sogned that one it is pretty easy to locate).Already has over 9000 signatures so please please please continue to sign and share!

Rumours are he has already signed. Announced tomorrow.

mamadoc · 04/01/2015 22:02

Granny- at first glance it does seem a bit odd and is something that Ched Evans supporters play on but in fact it makes sense.

The victim met McDonald in town and she agreed to go back to his hotel room with him albeit she was very drunk. He could reasonably believe therefore that she consented to sex with him.

Ched Evans got a text from his mate saying he had pulled and on the strength of that he turned his taxi around to go to the hotel. He then lied to get an extra room key and just walked in. He claims that he asked to join in and she agreed. She does not remember any of it. It seems clear that he went to the hotel with every intention of having sex with this women he had never met and he has much less grounds than the other guy to believe she had consented to it.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 04/01/2015 22:03

To be fair, he has 'done his time' in so far as that he has served the part of his sentence which would prevent him gaining employment (ie. being in prison). Legally he is allowed to get a job, and others on licence do so, so to say 'he hasn't done his time' is a bit of a red herring.

However, some people need to look up what the word 'rehabilitation' means as I see it bandied around a lot as a reason as to why he should be allowed to play again. In order to even start being rehabilitated you have to acknowledge that what you did was wrong and illegal. He has done neither.

SomebodysRealName · 04/01/2015 22:03

Granny the jury found that the victim was too drunk to consent in either case. However it is a defense in law if you believed the person consented AND that belief was reasonable by ordinary standards.

In terms of what went on between them and the victim in the lead up to intercourse, Evans and McDonald's circumstances were completely different. McDonald had actually met her elsewhere first and spent a very little amount of time talking to her when she wasn't naked and vulnerable in a hotel bed. She agreed to go with him to the hotel. Evans just turned up at the hotel apropos of nothing, gained access to the room and had sex with a girl he had never see or spoken to until that moment.

grannytomine · 04/01/2015 22:04

Willferrellisactuallykindahot, thanks I have just been reading the appeal information. What a sordid tale.

elfycat · 04/01/2015 22:04

This might be worth saying.

Dear Poor Woman who has a NC Problem,

I believe you.

Love Sarah.

forumdonkey · 04/01/2015 22:05

He has done his time. Either we abide by the justice system or we don't. We as a country believe in time served and rehabilitation. Otherwise what is the point of it.

Do you think a convicted rapist should return to their job as a teacher or police officer etc? He is a public figure who is hero worshiped by teenage boys, is this a suitable role model? In the same token should Rolf Harris resume his career on TV? He is a convicted rapist who is in the public eye so for that reason he shouldn't automatically expect to resume his career as his right. I couldn't go back to my career even if I committed a lesser crime in, so why should he be any different?

clam · 04/01/2015 22:06

If he has already signed, and it's a done deal, what happens if the backlash is such that Oldham get cold feet?

Mengog · 04/01/2015 22:08

Clam - He will be in line for some hefty compensation.

clam · 04/01/2015 22:09

Oh great! Angry

forumdonkey · 04/01/2015 22:09

SUFC did a U Turn when it came to him training with them. Jess Ennis and other sponsors and celebrities removed their support of the club.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 04/01/2015 22:10

I'd like to hear from Oldham's Board of Directors and sponsors.

It's all a bit quiet on that front.

clam · 04/01/2015 22:10

I mean, it would serve Oldham right, but it would sicken me to think that the rapist gets monetary gain.

Waltermittythesequel · 04/01/2015 22:11

Thanks Elfy! Grin

LineRunner · 04/01/2015 22:11

Stupid Oldham.

TheOfficialPan · 04/01/2015 22:12

It would depend on the terms of the contract. You'd think Oldham would have a very strong negotiation position to say "if it all gets really hairy, we can end the contract, but we are prepared to give it a go which, lets face it, no other club are desperate or stupid enough to do right now - take it or leave it."

Petradreaming · 04/01/2015 22:13

Signed and shared.

Makeoneupnow · 04/01/2015 22:14

Signed earlier on. If this man would show an ounce of remorse and actually acknowledge that what he did was rape he could actually do something really positive teach his 'supporters' (and sadly there a lot) that he was wrong and it was a crime.

ashtrayheart · 04/01/2015 22:15

Signed. CE and his supporters disgust me.

AWholeLottaNosy · 04/01/2015 22:15

You know what, even if he wasn't convicted of rape in a court of law, ( which he was) what a disgusting, arrogant, entitled and contemptuous thing to do, to go to a hotel room where your mate is fucking a drunk girl he's just met, lie to get a hotel room key and then immediately force yourself on a semi unconscious girl who is pretty much unable to resist...can't his supporters and the football clubs see this???

SingSongSlummy · 04/01/2015 22:19

Signed. Disgusting man.

Mengog · 04/01/2015 22:20

Oldham last four results 7-0, 1-0, 4-0, 2-1. All defeats. They are in freefall and in a dire financial position. Relegation could potentially end the club. It looks like a calculated risk.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 04/01/2015 22:20

Nosy - the sad fact is, they don't give a flying fuck.

RustyParker · 04/01/2015 22:22

Signed. Can't believe clubs keep coming out of the woodwork for this piece of filth.

mamadoc · 04/01/2015 22:22

The worst thing about it in my view is that at the time and to this day he thinks there was nothing wrong in his actions at all!

This is why he admitted the whole thing when questioned by the police. He really thinks there is no problem with what he did at all.

(Not even the fact he was cheating on his partner who is standing by him)

It makes me wonder if they had done this kind of thing before and if in this culture it is going on all the time.
