MN seems to be a quiet on this today but I think the fight should still go on. I can't link to it as I am so not tech savvy enough but it is on change.org. (Same person whk set up the Sheffield Weds one so of you sogned that one it is pretty easy to locate).Already has over 9000 signatures so please please please continue to sign and share!

Was you there MM1? Were you on the jury? Did you hear and see the evidence? No? Well the people who did decided he was guilty of rape that IMO counts more than your opinion.

Waltermittythesequel · 04/01/2015 21:41

Everyone else is entitled to their opinion because they're not complete assholes who take being wrong to spectacular heights.

Hth.

CeeloWeevil · 04/01/2015 21:42

signed.

grannytomine · 04/01/2015 21:43

I don't understand why one man was convicted and can't play football and the other wasn't and can play football. Didn't they both do the same thing? Well presumably they didn't, did they? Sorry I might be being a bit thick but I haven't followed this and just thought someone might be able to explain it to me.

tippytap · 04/01/2015 21:44

We have a rapist convicted on his OWN STATEMENT to the police and STILL we have people who perform mental gymnastics to convince themselves that it ain't so.

WTF does this say about our society and attitudes to women who are raped and the men who rape them.

No wonder the rape conviction level in this country is so low.

floatyflo · 04/01/2015 21:44

The way the petition is growing is fucking fantastic!

Granny, have you read the trial transcript info linked to upthread?

Grannytomine,
Somebodysrealname posted this earlier: "They conceded that the codefendant (his friend) may have reasonably believed she consented - because she willingly went back to the hotel with him etc, but they didn't accept that Evans (who just turned up and joined in halfway through) could reasonably have believed she consented. You should read the transcript of the application for appeal www.crimeline.info/case/r-v-ched-evans-chedwyn-evans before you make up your mind."

TheOfficialPan · 04/01/2015 21:48

granny - the jury found that McDonald didn't commit rape, as there was insufficient evidence to convict him. Evans' own testimony indicated he did rape her as she was not in a position to give consent.

JeanSeberg · 04/01/2015 21:48

I live in Manchester, I'd be up for joining a protest outside Oldham's grounds of one were to be organised. Let's see what the petition brings.

forumdonkey · 04/01/2015 21:48

Because one footballer was convicted of rape and the other wasn't. I think it is thought she consented to one guy but not his mate.

grannytomine · 04/01/2015 21:50

LineRunner, no I haven't. I will have a look, I assumed it would be quite lengthy so just thought I would ask.
Chunderella, yes I realised he is still playing but wondered if they were both involved why one was convicted and not the other. I should do what LineRunner is suggesting and read all the information. Had the GD all weekend and don't know if I have the energy or concentrate on it now so might have a look tomorrow.

engeika · 04/01/2015 21:51

No. not signing.

He has done his time. Either we abide by the justice system or we don't. We as a country believe in time served and rehabilitation. Otherwise what is the point of it.

grannytomine · 04/01/2015 21:52

Clam, thanks I missed that. I haven't made up my mind, just a bit puzzled that presumably she was fit to consent to one and not the other, I will have a look at the info.

Samcro · 04/01/2015 21:52

every time I see any thing about this convicted rapist
I am so glad I dod not follow football.
I feel sorry for the fans who are being let down by their clubs
their are lots of very talented players out there, they do not need to have a player, who most people (and according to my DB who is a lover of the game, is not that good..) had never heard about until he raped a poor woman.
my thoughts are with her and I hope she is ok.

minsmum · 04/01/2015 21:53

Signed the petition

Waltermittythesequel · 04/01/2015 21:54

Jesus!

He HASN'T 'done his time'.

TheOfficialPan · 04/01/2015 21:54

eng - he hasn't 'done his time' - he is still serving his sentence, albeit in the community. Rehabilitation - this is something open to all and 100,000s of ex-offenders take that challenge up. Evans has chosen to not have any rehabilitation process.

That's the justice system. Any confusion still lingering?

clam · 04/01/2015 21:54

engeika He. Has. Not. Done. His. Time.

What is so hard for people to understand about this? He is out on licence, which means he is serving the remainder of his time out in the community.

elfycat · 04/01/2015 21:55

Here Waltermitty you can borrow my wall. There's just the one hole in the bricks made by my head. Plenty of room for all.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 04/01/2015 21:55

granny we don't know because none of us were on the jury, but I think the assumption is that because the victim had already meant Clayton MacDonald more than 60 seconds before he penetrated her, there was reasonable doubt that he raped her.

The way that the two men came into contact with this woman were very different.

AWholeLottaNosy · 04/01/2015 21:58

Sadly, she's not ok. She's been forced to move and change her identity as Ched's supporters keep hounding her. She wasn't able to spend Christmas with her family due to this. I just hope she is heartened by all of us who continue to support her...

PetulaGordino · 04/01/2015 22:01

For the 80,000,000th time

He has NOT done his time
