It seems we are not allowed to speak about anything negative elsewhere. Please do not speak badly of Tricky Dicky and co.

I don't really get it either MN.

What is the spirit of mumsnet? Surely its mumsnetters and their opinions/ advice/ questions? Am i missing something?

I've seen much nastier things posted on here than on the first thread (which was shot down btw), I think it goes without saying that everyone is hoping the baby is healthy and loved and the parents are supported (which BTW does NOT have to be through £10ks worth of donations). No one has said anything otherwise Confused

A fundraising page was set up asking people to donate to cover medical bills and it was left like even after it was clarified that the money was not for medical bills but for rent etc.

It has taken over 24hrs to get that fundraising page updated and whilst Richard himself has said he was too busy he clearly wasn't as he managed to post on facebook numerous times instead of updating the page.

Richard has been quoted in the media that the money was NEVER for medical bills.

What makes me angry about it is if he is nowing saying to the press it was NEVER for medical bills WHY set up a fundraising page saying it was. That is misleading people to donate money thinking it is going to cover bills but it is not. The page has been updated but his direct quote to the press about it never being about paying medical bills really makes its all so dubious

Comment from someone bitching about the person who requested a refund:

"How do you avoid people asking for refunds who haven't actually donated? Are you checking before you release funds? I just had a horrible thought that not everyone is honest /:"

Oh the irony ...

windchime · 03/01/2015 21:22

MN are terrified of litigation. That is why any thread discussing the McCanns is pulled pronto by them.

hoobypickypicky · 03/01/2015 21:23

Thanks Whereisegg. I thought that might be it.

BTW, I love your user name. I wanted to come up with something witty about The Great Gatsby but failed. Grin

WannaBe · 03/01/2015 21:23

there were a few threads criticising the parents' appearance but compared to the other thousand or so posts deleting individual posts would have been easy.

I don't believe for a second this has anything to do with the "personal" nature of the thread or that it's "not in the spirit of mumsnet." alerting people to a potential scam isn't in the spirit of mumsnet then? Hmm Confused

AndreaDislikesScammers · 03/01/2015 21:23

I'll hold my hands up and admit I was the person on Thread One who mentioned the Dad's strong jaw. I apologised for it. MN could have just deleted my comment if they felt it was that bad.

LilMissSunshine9 · 03/01/2015 21:24

Infact all money raised up until they changed that fundraising page should be instantly donated to a charity so people donating going forward know exactly what they are donating for.

A person who asked for refund is being trashed on the facebook page and people are asking for her to named and shamed. That is disgusting.

Richard says he is deleting nasty posts but has not removed any nasty posts aimed at the woman who wants a refund yet is happy to delete posts that raise non-nasty questions

hoobypickypicky · 03/01/2015 21:25

Thanks too Ignore and Chipped.

Whereisegg · 03/01/2015 21:26

It was literally 5/6 comments in 1000, and they were told they were out of order sharpish.

asmallandnoisymonkey · 03/01/2015 21:29

Fraud by false representation is a criminal offence and I wonder if the page owners conduct so far could be construed as such, has he;

-made a false representation
-dishonestly
-knowing that the representation was or might be untrue or misleading
-with intent to make a gain for himself or another, to cause loss to another or to expose another to risk of loss.

Fiddlerontheroof · 03/01/2015 21:29

I'm a bit surprised the thread has gone....mumsnet are clearly a bit jumpy about it.

iamtheeggman · 03/01/2015 21:29

The difference is that someone posted a link to the MN thread on the FB page and I imagine HQ thought that the ad hominem comments about the parents reflected badly. HQ could have just deleted the posts though.

And the insurance will cover their living costs in NY. It's basically the biggest baby shower ever now. It's to pay for nappies and a pram.

asmallandnoisymonkey · 03/01/2015 21:30

Although judging the conduct of MNHQ so far I wouldn't be surprised if I end up in trouble for asking the question.

Haggismcbaggis · 03/01/2015 21:32

They talk about needing stuff for the baby. But surely they would have had to buy these anyway. Albeit in 11 weeks time.

LongDistanceLove · 03/01/2015 21:33

m.facebook.com/groups/1618730591680151 try this

Whereisegg · 03/01/2015 21:35

Someone posted a link on the fb page? !

LokiBear · 03/01/2015 21:35

Initially, I thought it was all very honourable. The thought of being in a foreign country with a sick child is awful. Whilst medical bills have been covered, I can understand them needing money to live on and to cover bills back home if the Father's self employment means loss of income. Fair enough, I understand why friends and family would want to help. However; the person running the fund raising has obviously lied about what the money is for and, secondly, they have raised almost £10000. How much money can two people possibly need to keep themselves going until March? I feel sad for all involved.

TidyDancer · 03/01/2015 21:35

Gosh. I'm surprised at the delete. Not surprised at the things that are coming out about the situation though.

LilMissSunshine9 · 03/01/2015 21:35

Whereisegg - all my posts got removed because I had been asking for the fundraising page to be updated (this is before they did) I was even banned from the page. Why? Yet posts like that don't get deleted?

I wasn't being nasty in my posts either.

AlpacaYourThings · 03/01/2015 21:39

Surprised MNHQ have deleted the thread.

Really disappointing that they took that stance rather than deleting the posts that weren't particularly nice about the couple and posting a warning.

Whereisegg · 03/01/2015 21:39

Yes I've seen all the very rational questions being deleted, and shouted down by the masses.
I cannot understand why people don't want answers, even if they are happy for their money to be spent on panties, is it really so hard to comprehend others might not? Angry

londonrach · 03/01/2015 21:41

Why was it deleted?

RoastitBubblyJocks · 03/01/2015 21:41

Can't believe the thread was deleted! MNHQ, what's that about?!

fluffymouse · 03/01/2015 21:52

Reading those threads was like reading a soap opera unfolding. I'm disappointed it has been pulled, mnhq have form for being very inconsistent about their rules for thread deletion.

Has anyone reported Richard to the police? Based on the level of misrepresentation it appears to be fraud.
