It seems we are not allowed to speak about anything negative elsewhere. Please do not speak badly of Tricky Dicky and co.

So is the TD group not being used?

ScotsWhaHae · 03/01/2015 21:12

Poor show mn, really poor show.

WorriedMutha · 03/01/2015 21:12

I have been watching this thread and have been rather surprised that the mainstream media have not been busying themselves given the inconsistencies. Separately, I have been getting seriously weary of MN for lots of reasons. I hope that this sets a precedent. If they stifle dissent, the discussion can move elsewhere. MN are not indispensable.

Teeb · 03/01/2015 21:12

Can mnhq come on this thread to let us know why they deleted a thread? By the very nature of it receiving more than 1200 posts in a few days it clearly was in the spirit of mn, as the members of mn were actively engaged in the news story. It's a multi layered issue that's very topical now, social media/charity fundraising/fraudulent activity etc are all pretty relevant to mumsnetters yet you want to censor our opinions and views hq? Any posts which break talk guidelines should be deleted, but to wipe the whole threads just seems massively over zealous or lazy on your part, that you couldn't be bothered to delete a handful of posts and wiped it all.

Have some respect for your users mnhq.

pippitysqueakity · 03/01/2015 21:12

FB won't let me see it. Do I have to be allowed to join?

aermingers · 03/01/2015 21:12

The appeal site was set up saying that they would be hit with a huge medical bill and had to pay for accommodation in NY. It's since transpired that the medical bills will be covered and very likely accommodation too. Various other things like costs for communication were mooted which also appear to have been bogus. They didn't correct the Facebook page or the fundraising page to reflect the changes for a long time after it was confirmed the costs would be covered.

They've since corrected the page and now have said it will cover their UK bills, loss of income, living costs in NY and things for the baby. Several people have been a bit Hmm about this because the couple appear to have a very affluent lifestyle and be quite comfortably off.

In addition they both work in some capacity for the man who is doing the fundraising. So he is in effect the employer who is not paying them while they are in NY. He appears to be quite wealthy himself but doesn't seem to be prepared to dig too deep into his own pockets.

And many of the people who have been duped into donating seem to be considerably worse off than the people who are getting the money.

In a nutshell that's it.

Chippednailvarnish · 03/01/2015 21:12

As we are clearly not allowed to say anything negative about Tricky Dicky or MN will tell us off, I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his unrelenting tireless work in the field of race relations. I would also like to express my gratitude for him spending "every waking moment" fundraising to buy Lee Johnston new panties.
The way he has also made the use of disablist language completely unacceptable is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.

What a guy. My hero.

TheySayIamparanoid · 03/01/2015 21:12

I put 'Tricky Dickies dodgy dealings' into fb search and it came up!

oneowlgirl · 03/01/2015 21:14

I'm confused - what's the supposed scam? Can someone PM me edgers going on with this as I read the thread too & thought whilst things sounded strange, I couldn't quite figure out why.

Icimoi · 03/01/2015 21:14

TBH, Im not inclined to be moved off MN. It seems to me that MN's issue is purely with criticism of the parents. If we keep discussion to a Tricky, I don't think they're going to object. Or at least I damn well hope so.

asmallandnoisymonkey · 03/01/2015 21:14

lol'ing at Chipped :D

asmallandnoisymonkey · 03/01/2015 21:15

Still not sure why criticism of the parents is an issue though - just because they've done what millions of other people around the world can do and popped a baby out doesn't mean that they're infallible

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 03/01/2015 21:15

MN this has really really pissed me off deleting a thread where members are discussing a scam. We are not 7. Its as bad as the time the forums were shut down on new years eve.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 03/01/2015 21:15

I would like to think that MNHQ can recognise that keeping a thread going regarding dodgy fundraising is in the best interests of everyone. Let's just keep it on topic.

Whereisegg · 03/01/2015 21:17

assmall people were laughing and bitching at their appearance and clothing.

In view of everyone's fear that this thread will soon be zapped - are we talking about very new parents who might not be in their homeland?

Justinefrischmann · 03/01/2015 21:18

I'm counting down the seconds until MNHQ come on to tell us off for a TAAT and then shut this one down too. It's happened several times recently and it is particularly frustrating this time. We are alerting people to something which is, at best, oblique; at worst, a scam. We're going to get our wrists slapped in 3, 2, 1...

asmallandnoisymonkey · 03/01/2015 21:18

That's awful and personally I wouldn't do it or like to read it, HOWEVER how is it different to absolutely hundreds of other posts that appear daily that bitch about how people look or what they say/do/dress? I honestly can't see a difference.

SignoraStronza · 03/01/2015 21:19

Would be really useful to have a coherent and honest answer as to why those threads have really been pulled. MNHQ, am actually really rather pissed off.

Whereisegg · 03/01/2015 21:19

hooby yes, but more discussing the very dubious fundraising being done for them by a friend.
Without their knowledge at first.

Chippednailvarnish · 03/01/2015 21:20

Yes Hooby the land that is so technologically disadvantaged that WIFI is a rarity and facilities for washing your clothes are a scare resource held by the coveted few.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 03/01/2015 21:20

Yes hobby

AcrossthePond55 · 03/01/2015 21:20

Ah well, I'm not on FB so no Tricky Dicky for me. I guess I'll just have to make do with Regular Dicky. Wait….that didn't sound quite right. Grin

IAmOnMyBike · 03/01/2015 21:21

There was someone commenting on a part of the Mum's body and another who commented on a part of the Dad's body. They were maybe in total half a dozen posts in one 1000 post thread. The people were ripped into for it. There was lots of talking of zip it and that was that.
