I made a pie for a friend, cheese, potato and onion. She was having a family party and requested I make her a pie. Very happy to oblige.
Pie was eaten and enjoyed by her family, I had a lovely text from friend who said she would give me the plate back soon, no hurry I said, we have plenty.
Skip forward to last night when we were having a girls night out. I met friend and four others in a out in town. The friend had the plate with her. She gave it me so I asked what I was supposed to do with it all night? She said well if it's that much of a problem she would carry it. We went to for a meal and then to another pub, I felt guilty about her carrying it so I suggested we just leave it in the pub. It's only a plate.
She said she would feel too guilty and carried on carrying it around looking all martyred so I took the plate off her and left it in the pub.
She then, after a few more drinks, started crying ......about the plate!!

So was ibu about making a fuss about her bringing the plate on a night out? Was friend bu in bringing the plate and insisting on carrying it around for most of the night, even after I suggested we leave it?

My husband two girls think it's hilarious, oldest daughter is getting ready to go out and came to ask me which plate goes best with her outfit. So at least some good has come out of plate-gate Grin

Very nice isn't it, filling and tasty. I usually try to have some with a salad so that I can convince myself it's a healthy meal Grin

Glad you enjoyed it.

Going out with a plate might make it easier to eat in one of those slate as a plate places too? Sort of a fashion accessory/practical eating/swipe at foodie-nonsense 'fusion'. Yes... a 'fusion' of practicalities...rather like a swiss-army knife IMO.

I take a plate, bowl and beaker on holiday with me, and a single set of cutlery too! It's useful for when I want to sneak a takeaway into my hotel room, and I don't like drinking from hotel glasses as they are tiddly.

Once I took a flask of hot water, a spoon, a pack of three-in-one sachets of coffee and a really big mug in my bag for a long coach journey. The looks in people's faces were split between 'weirdo' and 'genius!'

Oh my, they're octagonal. Maybe they'll make a comeback replacing the square plates and the bits of wood and slate.

It was really nice. Even my 7 year old ate it all. We had lots of veg so we could pretend it was healthy.

Ha ha ha I love your friend for the plate and for crying. Never ever let her go she sounds great. X x and you should absolutely make her another pie on it and next night out suggest everyone brings plates.

I was born and bred down south, and I can promise you thatwe only pretend there is a crockery etiquette to a night out for the benefit of the many northerners, who are entirely taken in by it.

Durham, you are clearly royalty as no one involved you in it.

Many's the time, I've had to carry a bloody cup about with me just because someone's mate from Chester or wherever is staying for a weekend.

We have the complete Eternal Beau dinner service and tea set etc. Think we've used it a total of 3 times in 17 years. Stupidly shaped plates! Can't get much food on them. Having looked on ebay I think I might have to sell it!
