I made a pie for a friend, cheese, potato and onion. She was having a family party and requested I make her a pie. Very happy to oblige.
Pie was eaten and enjoyed by her family, I had a lovely text from friend who said she would give me the plate back soon, no hurry I said, we have plenty.
Skip forward to last night when we were having a girls night out. I met friend and four others in a out in town. The friend had the plate with her. She gave it me so I asked what I was supposed to do with it all night? She said well if it's that much of a problem she would carry it. We went to for a meal and then to another pub, I felt guilty about her carrying it so I suggested we just leave it in the pub. It's only a plate.
She said she would feel too guilty and carried on carrying it around looking all martyred so I took the plate off her and left it in the pub.
She then, after a few more drinks, started crying ......about the plate!!

So was ibu about making a fuss about her bringing the plate on a night out? Was friend bu in bringing the plate and insisting on carrying it around for most of the night, even after I suggested we leave it?

My husband two girls think it's hilarious, oldest daughter is getting ready to go out and came to ask me which plate goes best with her outfit. So at least some good has come out of plate-gate Grin

My mum popped over for a coffee today and I mentioned the whole plate thing to her. She was aghast and said ' well I hope it wasn't your Marks and Spencer's Eternal Beau plate that you left behind' this would be the Eternal Beau set she bought me over twenty years ago and that I 'lost' several years ago.

We see, or at least bump into each other, at least once a week.

We meet up for coffee once a week and I would say we go out for a meal at least every 4-6 weeks.

There was no danger of me waiting for the plate for the next 18 months.

Don't ever arrange a pub crawl with your mum then durham, you'll be walking around with an Eternal Beau tea set before you've got the first round in!

Grin

she should have pretended she was from Planet Crockery and the plate was her pet.

I really don't see what's wrong with bringing the plate with her on your night out. It's not as if you were going to a ball is it?

The main problem was I was dressed up nicely in my smart new tartan dress and heels. Smart coat and brand new handbag. The crumpled Tesco bag with plate just didn't complement the look I was going (hoping) for.

Im the sort of plank who would bring the plate. But Id stick it in a bag and carry it and not be bothered about it. Nor would I cry!!

She probably wasn't crying about the plate but the fuss you made and probably you belittling her too. So she brought the plate with good intentions, maybe if she had thought it through she shouldn't have. You made it a big deal not her.

OP, I confess to having a set of Eternal Beau crockery that we got for our wedding 21 years ago Grin. We use it once a year on Christmas Day then it's packed away again till next Christmas.

Going to get my 21 year old daughter onto Dragons Den. She can ask for £250,000 to market a selection of fashionable plates to go with outfits on a night out. She clearly has an eye for style Grin

I'm more worried about the posters on here who think she did the right thing, even your friend realises, in hindsight, it was a daft thing to do! Xmas Grin

Who wants to be carrying a bloody plate in a Tesco bag around all night from pub to pub?! Weirdos.

Mrs DeVere I bought my Auntie a present for her 70th. She made a similar fuss.

We had hired a minibus which took all the family to and from the restaurant so there was no carrying required really.

Don't want to try to trump the plate story but I was once part of a group who ended up taking an old-fashioned till on a night out. It had its own little trolley but mostly sat in the corner of the pub.

And yes, Northern.

Well a till is useful, you could use it to put the drinks kitty in Grin
