To think beans are a staple ingredient of a fry up?

DH thinks a traditional fry up should be served without beans. I think it's not a proper fry up without some kind of moisture.

Who's right?

Beans are the cheap padding to eke out the meal, and are a cheat. Moisture is supplied by brown sauce and ketchup.

Essential:
Sausage
Egg
Bacon
Black pudding
Fried bread
Fried mushrooms
Fried tomatoes
Strong tea

It is called Fried Brown Shit in my house, and used to be the essential start of the new year pre-dd.

CoffeeBeanMonster · 31/12/2014 16:53

I like some kind of bean thing with my fry up but I add a few extras like onions, spinach, garlic, curry powder and chilli. I serve it in a separate dish or mug so it doesn't get mixed up with the egg or fried bread

hauntedhenry · 31/12/2014 16:55

No beans! Spoils the whole thing imo. Down with beans!!!

Hoppinggreen · 31/12/2014 16:59

As a pp said NO to beans - what if they touch the eggs???

MarshaBrady · 31/12/2014 17:00

No way to beans. A waste of a spot, esp if going out for breakfast.

That space needs to be filled with mushrooms.

LongDistanceLove · 31/12/2014 17:01

I hate runny beans, I get a good bean juice reduction going, then you get thick gooey beans with no bean juice contamination.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2014 17:02

No to beans and tomatoes.

Essentials are bacon, egg, mushroom and some sort of bread or potato product.

Black pudding and sausage are nice extras.

Tattiebogle · 31/12/2014 17:09

Some of us on this thread must have plates the size of dustbin lids. :D

Bogeyface · 31/12/2014 17:11

I use steak plates for my fry ups, no point doing it if you aint doing it properly! :o

miffybun73 · 31/12/2014 17:14

Beans are essential :)

Fabulous46 · 31/12/2014 17:35

No to beans or tinned tomatoes.

We have:-

Smoked bacon
Eggs
Black pudding
Haggis or fruit pudding or white pudding
Minute steak
Mushrooms
Grilled tomatoes
Kidney
Square and link sausage
Potato scones

It's all put in the middle of the table for people to help themselves with toast, tea and coffee. I only ever make full breakfasts at the weekends.

Sallystyle · 31/12/2014 17:35

I don't like beans but I have to have them with a fry up. Its the only time I eat them.

Sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, hashbrown/fried potatoes and beans.

Can't stand mushrooms or fried bread and I won't try black pudding.

LePetitMarseillais · 31/12/2014 17:39

We have bacon rolled up,mushrooms, sour dough bread slices, tomatoes and eggs all covered with olive oil, salt and pepper baked in the oven.Sounds poncy but it's gorgeous.

No baked beans for me but dh and a couple of the kids have them.

HollyBdenum · 31/12/2014 17:55

That sounds nice, I have to confess that my fry-up tomatoes are actually cherry tomatoes roasted with garlic and olive oil.

Royalsighness · 31/12/2014 18:00

Beans! And also some sort of potato product, waffle, hash brown or dare I say it even CHIPS!

newyearsresolutionsnotforme · 31/12/2014 18:40

Your DH is BU, but that's because I love beans in a fry up and am happy with mainly beans and not much of the friend junk!

Rhiana1979 · 31/12/2014 18:43

Sausage
Egg
Bacon or gammon
Hash brown or fried potatoes
Mushrooms
Tinned toms

If having it as a mixed grill then add a burger and pork chop.

No black pudding no beans

Minerves · 31/12/2014 18:55

tinned tomatoes, i hate beans

and: fried egg, bacon, mushrooms, hash browns, fried bread

Taffeta · 31/12/2014 19:05

We never have fry ups. We sometimes have bacon and scrambled egg.

If I was to have one, or go out, I'd want

Bacon - streaky and crispy - no flabby back ta
Mushrooms - cooked in loads of butter
Fried egg, or scrambled, or poached not fussed
Sausage
Granary toast with butter
Big mug of strong milky tea

Murphy29 · 31/12/2014 19:10

No beans or tomatoes.

Haggis, black pudding, bacon, square sausage, link sausage and tattie scone.

Catypillar · 31/12/2014 19:34

Nobody else have spaghetti hoops instead of beans or tomatoes?

LongDistanceLove · 31/12/2014 19:35

Spaghetti hoops! Nope, my ex was a cunt and loved the things, never will they darken any door I may have.

Tobeemoree · 31/12/2014 19:37

Holly That's exactly what we do. In fact I'm just getting some ready to go with the steak tonight too. Yum.

grovel · 31/12/2014 19:43

And may I just add that ketchup is a no-no with a fry up. English mustard and (at a stretch) brown sauce are permissible.

TalkinPeace · 31/12/2014 20:19

Eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, black pudding, tomato, fried bread
beans optional

but black pudding, bacon, poached eggs, mushroom : could get reet lardy on that
