To think beans are a staple ingredient of a fry up?

DH thinks a traditional fry up should be served without beans. I think it's not a proper fry up without some kind of moisture.

Who's right?

There's never a good time for beans. Envy

Dawnywoo · 31/12/2014 10:25

Bloody hell this has made me hungry!

Yes to beans. And to most of the other things on here. Also I wouldn't care what was served if someone was actually cooking it for me (rare)

I also create a bacon barrier but to stop tinned tomatoes spending...

A common foible I think!

TooMuchRain · 31/12/2014 10:25

No to beans - even on a veggie fry up.

Now I really want one...

bambinibop · 31/12/2014 10:27

Yes to beans you need that moisture!

bambinibop · 31/12/2014 10:27

Really want a fry up now

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 31/12/2014 10:30

In chez fuckery beans in full fry up, BUT they are fried in bacon fat till sticky. Never tinned toms, fresh either grilled or again, fried in bacon fat. It's like living in a health farm here. Grin

MelanieCheeks · 31/12/2014 10:37

No beans. It's a "fry" innit, how do you fry beans?

formerbabe · 31/12/2014 10:39

I don't fry any of it! Sausage, bacon and hash browns all go in the oven. It all is much crispier that way and makes less mess. Eggs are scrambled.

TheHappinessTrap · 31/12/2014 10:40

Me: Yes
OH: No

Tykeisagirl · 31/12/2014 10:41

Beans yes, but not tomatoes, either tinned or fresh, too watery.

duckwalk · 31/12/2014 10:43

I have always maintained that a fry up isn't complete without beans. Runny egg yolk makes it even yummier! X

DurhamDurham · 31/12/2014 10:43

Nope not in our house, they are a waste of valuable space on a plate that could be used for much tastier offerings.

Absolute must haves are sausages, bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes. Optional extras include mushrooms, black pudding and fried bread.

We love a cooked breakfast but never have beans with it.

MinnieM1 · 31/12/2014 10:45

Yes got to have beans! No to tomatoes and evil mushrooms!
Ideal fry-up = sausage, bacon, fried egg (without the yolk, I only eat the white), beans, fried bread & lots and lots of tea

Mehitabel6 · 31/12/2014 10:45

DH

SunnyBaudelaire · 31/12/2014 10:47

beans on a fried breakfast are totally egregious and infect the other good food with their revolting bean juice.

HeraldAngelSinging · 31/12/2014 10:48

Beans do not provide moisture. The sauce they're in does. What flavour would you consider the sauce to be? Yes, it's tomato so bring on real tomatoes. We do not 'fry' beans so they are not part of a fry up. They are yet again another American import just as hash browns are.

Bacon, sausage if you must, egg, sliced tomatoes, mushrooms, crisp black or white pudding and essential for spreading egg yolk fried bread.

Will B&Bs and hotels and guest houses please bear in mind that I prefer a half slice of fried bread and not two quarters, please?

fascicle · 31/12/2014 10:50

Baked beans and some form of potato - hash brown or leftover baked potato, sliced and fried.

Bananayellow · 31/12/2014 10:58

Nope you are wrong. Beans on toast ok at a push. Beans with fry up not ok although I do have to do them for the other bananas

Costacoffeeplease · 31/12/2014 11:05

No beans, ever. Grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, definitely

FryOneFatManic · 31/12/2014 11:09

I love a fry-up. I absolutely loathe baked beans.

Therefore, no beans in a fry-up. Grin

Luckily, only DD likes beans and even that is restricted to having them on jacket potatoes.

Teeste · 31/12/2014 11:20

Beans all the way. Also sausages, bacon, hash browns, scrambled egg (for me), black pudding (for DH), potato cakes or toast, lashings of ketchup and a pint of Yorkshire tea. Vegetables have no place in my fry ups!

whois · 31/12/2014 11:25

It HAS to have beans!

WeAllHaveWings · 31/12/2014 11:31

No beans yuck.

Must have: Fried Lorne Sausage; Fried Bacon; Fried Tattie Scone; Fried Bread; Fried Egg; Fried Dumpling (NO to white pudding, its got to be dumpling!)

Optional (for dh): Fried Black Pudding; Fried Tomato; Fried Mushrooms

Only have it a couple of times a year, but its bloody brilliant.

AnyoneforTurps · 31/12/2014 11:31

No, no, no to vile repulsively-sweet-on-the-outside-dry-on-the-inside beans. Yes to mushrooms. Tomatoes permitted at a pinch.

AlpacaYourThings · 31/12/2014 11:32

Tinned tomatoes on a breakfast ?! Shock I think I'm going to be sick...
