I am not being unreasonable.. I am sat in floods of tears.

My DH just received a text from a friend asking if he has seen the news.. His company has gone into administration as of yesterday and announced in the news this afternoon on Christmas day

He had no idea, noone even the manager's had any idea.. There has been rumours going round and some suspicious activity but noone expected this.

One big manager left this week, and changed his mobile number (funny that)

The news quote from the administration says significant job losses over the next few days, i feel bitterly angry that the fat cats in their nice cars have kept this to themselves until after Christmas so not to lose all the staff

Dh was offered a job last month and i convinced him not to leave as it fits all our needs etc

It's shit, and outrageously cynical of them to only announce it today once all parcels done for Xmas (assuming you do mean CL). This happened to us last year, it's bloody scary. Hugs op x

Fuck that's crap. Can your DH get in touch with the company that wanted him to say he's now available? So when they have another vacancy they can come direct to him n not have to advertise?

That is absolutely outrageous timing but agree as hard as it is there is nothing you can do today and all the food and drink in your house is already paid for. So try and enjoy yourself and think about this when you get more info after Christmas.

How crap. I'd get a start straight after Boxing Day on the job hunting, some peeps will be able to leave it til when the kids go back but not many i would think. On the plus side there is work around even at quiet times like this: my partner is fed up at work and only started looking Xmas Eve via internet jobsites, he got a phone interview sorted for day after Boxing Day. Best of luck/try not to worry just be as proactive as you can.

I lost all my work a few weeks ago, i am due to start a new job mid January so February was going to be a horrendously tight month anyway.

Just been looking at the acas website and i have no idea if we will get any redundancy pay from them if they announce insolvency.

They announced on the 9th January they are paying all owed overtime which seems so strange as they have never done it before..

Does anyone have any clues about companies going into administration and how redundancy works?

They've not even sent an email to warn their staff.. Just let the daily fucking fail write about it

I'm so, so sorry. The way it works is that they can't tell staff. There are laws around liquidation which mean they have to get as much money in (so trade through to Christmas) to get as much cash in as possible. That may mean there's enough to pay staff, or some of the pay. It will be done fairly, at least in law, so Tax first, then creditors with a legal lean such as some types of bank loan, then I can't remember whether staff come together with other creditors, or above them.

So there may be some money, there may not be but there is a legal process and it is possible it may take some time.

I'm so sorry. It's utterly shit. But, they're not being cunts. They were doing what they could to get as much money in as possible which is the best chance of your OH getting paid.

My DH worked for shitty link for all of 3 weeks, it was awful. He'd go out in the morning at 6am and not be back until after 7pm. Luckily he did get another job..

Also a place I worked at had an amazing City Link driver who was lovely - they also delivered for Brora.

However, our receptionist was a complete bitch and reported him for not delivering a parcel on time.

Imagine her face when he turned up later for a different delivery company.

Anyway what I am trying to say is that here are 2 examples that got a new job pretty quickly.

I am sorry about this just seen on the news.

Regarding redundancy pay I think you can claim through the government if a firm goes bust so worth looking into.

Going into administration doesn't mean it will close down. It happens to lots of companies and they get through it. Stay positive.

How awful I swear I heard about this last week though, that City Link were "closing the doors for good" on Christmas Eve. I didn't think much of it though, just thought it was common knowledge.

Where an employee is made redundant in an insolvency situation (which would include Administration) the Government's Redundancy Payments Service will pay at least a proportion of monies owed to them within weeks of them making a claim. The balance of monies owed to the employee are a claim in the Administration and if any payment is made to creditors by the Administrators it is likely to take some time.

There is never a good time for your employer to go into Administration, but Christmas is really shitty, so sorry for you.

However, my DH and myself (with 3 going DC in tow) faced similar situation to yours. At the time, it felt like our entire world had just caved in, I cried constantly for days. We got through it though and it was NOT as horrific as I'd imagined it to be. You will get through this, I know exactly how you're feeling, but you will, I promise.

Oh OP I'm so sorry! It's all shades of worry/betrayal/anger.

For this evening, you both need to stay calm. Be kind to yourselves and set a limit on the time you spend talking about it. Tomorrow is for constructive discussion.

Deal with emotions tonight (up to an agreed point) then try to rest. Practical stuff you can deal with tomorrow, in whatever way you usually do.
