I am not being unreasonable.. I am sat in floods of tears.

My DH just received a text from a friend asking if he has seen the news.. His company has gone into administration as of yesterday and announced in the news this afternoon on Christmas day

He had no idea, noone even the manager's had any idea.. There has been rumours going round and some suspicious activity but noone expected this.

One big manager left this week, and changed his mobile number (funny that)

The news quote from the administration says significant job losses over the next few days, i feel bitterly angry that the fat cats in their nice cars have kept this to themselves until after Christmas so not to lose all the staff

Dh was offered a job last month and i convinced him not to leave as it fits all our needs etc

i think the language in the thread title is very unreasonable

wigglylines · 28/12/2014 03:21

I think the language in the thread title is spot on.

Pastperfect · 28/12/2014 04:05

It is sad for all employees concerned.

Some of the posts on here show an extraordinary lack of understanding as to the way in which companies trade and the idea that the directors are sitting at home chuckling gleefully into their champagne is offensive as is the suggestion, without any evidence, that they have behaved improperly. I think it's fairly safe to assume that it's been a rubbish time for all involved

financialwizard · 28/12/2014 07:07

I just wanted to wish your family well and send hope that your DH finds a job that he loves swiftly.

I have been made redundant 5 times, and each time (with the exception of one) I have found a better role.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 28/12/2014 07:07

A really useful contribution to the thread araiba.

netmums.

Bowlersarm · 28/12/2014 07:36

I agree with araiba.

Sorry that it's a difficult time for you though OP.

sockmatcher · 28/12/2014 07:40

Earplugs I've been thinking of you since Christmas Day when I first read this thread.

I hope your partner gets a new job soon. Do get back in touch with the company who offered him a job previously.

Its been interesting to read about the economics of these companies and I wonder which other companies are going under. Its just so common unfortunately.

FlimwellUnderpass · 28/12/2014 07:42

Cunt cunt cunt. I think women can use the word cunt however they cunting want.

Bowlersarm · 28/12/2014 07:48

I think women can use the word cunt whenever they want too.

I clicked on here thinking Christ, who have Isis beheaded now? What language is used to describe someone like them if we are calling a few bad businessmen cunts?

I appreciate the OP is emotional about it. I just don't think they are utter utter cunts.

FlimwellUnderpass · 28/12/2014 07:50

Oh do piss off

PastPerfect · 28/12/2014 07:56

I'm with bowlers.

I think women can use the word cunt as they wish but it's better reserved for those that deserve it

FlimwellUnderpass · 28/12/2014 08:23

Lovely. Quiche in action then.

earplugsahoy · 28/12/2014 11:19

They are utter cunts, and i will say it to anyone who will listen

The management have know since NOVEMBER that they need to either sell or liquidate the company.

I understand not being told what's going on to avoid losing business.

What makes them cunts is the fact that they put the company into administration on close of business christmas eve let the news break on Christmas day..

But didn't bother to contact employees until boxing day to explain.. The news got a comment before the staff!!

That's an abysmal way to treat several thousand staff.

OP posts:
ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 28/12/2014 11:27

Oh, so you think thousands of people losing their jobs and probably niot getting paid for work they have done, isn't 'that bad'? FFS.

Earplugs :(. Don't let some posters make it worse for you. Just ignore any stupid comments.

TooHasty · 28/12/2014 11:52

What makes them cunts is the fact that they put the company into administration on close of business christmas eve

they did this because they needed to make the absolute most of the christmas market to have as much money as possible to distribute to those they owe money to.Had they announced it a week ago lots of drivers would have thought 'f* it ' and not come in again.
Once it has gone into administration that announcement has to be made straightaway.
I very much doubt the uniform and new scanners have been paid for.The suppliers will be towards the back of a very long queue. Employees (not self employed)are virtually at the front of that queue behind only HMRC.

mummylin2495 · 28/12/2014 11:53

I am so sorry for all everyone who has lost their job we have a city link depot in my town. I can't imagine how worried and stressed you must all be. I hope that you get redundancy pay sorted out quickly and that new jobs will be on the horizon. Agree it was shit timing to be told.

earplugsahoy · 28/12/2014 12:02

to hasty... That you are..

Copy and paste the bit after, where it says about them announcing but forgetting to give 3000 members of staff the heads up before seeing on the news whilst enjoying their Christmas pud!!

There is a Facebook group called Nationalise Citylink..

They have just posted a link to a company information website which shows on 6th December a company called City link b2b was registered.
The RMT have been speaking of wrong doing and asset stripping prior to administration and this looks like it has happened.

OP posts:
PastPerfect · 28/12/2014 12:22

Again see posts about the legalities of trading whilst insolvent, disclosure of confidential information and maximizing trading profit.

chipping I'm not sure that anyone has said people possibly not getting paid "is not that bad" but since one poster made the comparison with Isis beheadings I'm quite prepared to say losing a months salary is no where near "as bad" as that Hmm

earplugsahoy · 28/12/2014 12:41

past it's not just losing a months salary though is it??

Not being to make the rent payment, not being able to pay the bills, pay for food shopping

What if a job isn't found straight away?

Out situation puts us at a very high risk of losing our home, my income doesn't come close to the rent payment let alone everything else that we have to pay out for.

OP posts:
HoHonutty · 28/12/2014 12:52

Well, I call someone a cunt if they cut me up in traffic so may not be the best person to comment but I think the use of utter cunt is absolutely justified here.

Andrewofgg · 28/12/2014 12:52

TooHasty HMRC (and I think, but I am not sure, the local councils) lost their privileged place in 2003. They too are just ordinary creditors now.

The fact that a new company was formed is proof of nothing. It had to be there in case it proved possible to save the business.

If Better Capital are ahead of the queue that will be because they took a debenture. But if they had not done so they would not have put their money in, and CL would have gone into liquidation instead; not at Christmas, and there would have been some who were creditors then who are not now and vice versa, but Better Capital's intervention might have saved the company.

I would be more interested to know why the competitor businesses have succeeded. Better service? A keener price?

As for Nationalise Citylink - I think the employees and shareholders and creditors of the competitor businesses might have something to say about that. Pigs will fly and the unicorn will mate with the yeti before that happens.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 28/12/2014 13:02

past there's no need to compare them. There are people involved with this City Link debacle who are Utter Cunts. Just because there are others out there who are also utter cunts, does not make this 'Less'.

I'm not sure why you're minimising their actions, nor why you can't see it's more, much more, than losing a months wages.

PastPerfect · 28/12/2014 13:17

Chipping it was you who made the comparison by your suggestion that someone had commented that this "wasn't that bad" Confused

A valid point was made that having read the title they assumed the very worst of human behaviour had manifested itself in some way and I agree.

I'm not minimising anything but I'm curious as to the direction of the vitriol. It has been explained to the OP that there are legal reasons why things will have played out as they have.

I am sorry for the OP, the uncertainty of redundancy is horrible. I have been there myself but getting angry and hoping for the impossible (nationalisation) doesn't help.

ArabellaStrange · 29/12/2014 09:30

They knew in November that the company was unviable.
Yes, I get that they carried on trading in order to fill the pot as much as possible but really, should that be allowed?
Surely as soon as it becomes clear that the company is done, then it should have to cease trading?
Which would have meant for people such as earplugs and bunny they would have known that christmas had to be done on a tighter budget and would have started the ball rolling in terms of claiming what is owed to them and looking for other employment, a lot sooner.
Yes, there was never going to be an ideal time to announce this. But christmas day, really?
Ffs!

LittleBearPad · 29/12/2014 09:35

But stopping in November would have likely meant there was less money earned by the company (Christmas will have been a massive income earner) that would be available to the creditors.
