I am not being unreasonable.. I am sat in floods of tears.

My DH just received a text from a friend asking if he has seen the news.. His company has gone into administration as of yesterday and announced in the news this afternoon on Christmas day

He had no idea, noone even the manager's had any idea.. There has been rumours going round and some suspicious activity but noone expected this.

One big manager left this week, and changed his mobile number (funny that)

The news quote from the administration says significant job losses over the next few days, i feel bitterly angry that the fat cats in their nice cars have kept this to themselves until after Christmas so not to lose all the staff

Dh was offered a job last month and i convinced him not to leave as it fits all our needs etc

It's terribly sad, but not sure that announcing it 2 weeks ago would have been any better. Nobody deliberately goes into administration.

Sirzy · 25/12/2014 20:35

How awful for you, I heard it on the news before and wondered why announce it today. The news would be awful whenever but to ruin people's Christmas must just rub salt into wounds.

HermioneWeasley · 25/12/2014 20:39

What shitty news on what should be a lovely day, but as others have said

  1. Your DH has been offered another job. They might still want him, but if not, as others have sauce it means be interviews well and has marketable skills
  2. Going into administration doesn't mean that everyone is made redundant instantly
  3. If he is made redundant, the gov will pay stat redundancy pay (though it can take a few weeks to process and come through)

Hope it all works out.

fiorentina · 25/12/2014 20:47

I know it's awful. This time last year my husband had lost his job, we had a 5 wk old baby and I was made redundant the week before xmas. It was awful, but I got a new job in the new year and it's been fine. I'm sure you will all be fine, get the cv updated and get out there networking asap.

Best of luck.

ToomanyChristmasPresents · 25/12/2014 20:50

CityLink?

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 25/12/2014 20:57

You are right, they are utter cunts.

I am so sorry x

ouryve · 25/12/2014 21:00

How utterly shit :(

MoreBeta · 25/12/2014 21:04

Could it be a pre-pack insolvency and will emerge quickly as a viable business without debts and other liabilities?

saintlyjimjams · 25/12/2014 21:04

I saw this on the news & pointed out to DH saying how awful it must be for employees to find out today.

They msy be bought out by another delivery company & as others have said doing it now may leave your Dh with the best chance of being paid as presumably January is quieter than December.

They should have sent a staff email to go out with the announcement though. Bastards.

ilovesooty · 25/12/2014 21:06

I'm so sorry. I hope your husband gets something else quickly.

earplugsahoy · 25/12/2014 21:10

There is no way they will make it through this administration, rentokil sold the company for £1 the new owners have failed to turn things around and according to the news have been unable to find a buyer which is why they have handed over to EY

OP posts:
Tanith · 25/12/2014 21:11

So sorry to see this, Op Thanks

I'm guessing it's Citylink. DH used to work for them - 12 hour shifts, no breaks, impossible workload - this latest contempt of their staff is so typical.

Hope your DH isn't out for long. Most certainly, he deserves far better.

TheFourthLobster · 25/12/2014 21:16

So sorry to hear that OP :(

Bunnyjo · 25/12/2014 21:18

OP - I feel your pain. DH is a self employed courier with them and is owed a total of £3200. He pays for his own van and diesel etc., so he has worked 14hr days in the run up to Xmas and literally paid for the privilege of doing so. Our rent is due, we have bills to pay and I just don't know how we are going to get through this. If we are very lucky the administrators may offer 1p for every £1, meaning we'll see £32 of the money owed to us Angry

We knew something was amiss yesterday as all self employed couriers were supposed to be paid and none were. The DH of a friend of mine manages an agency which supplies staff to them, and they are owed a total of £250k

Bastards, absolute fucking bastards Sad

TheFairyCaravan · 25/12/2014 21:20

I saw it on the news and thought it was a horrible thing to do on Christmas Day. They must have known before, or could have at least waited until tomorrow.

I hope your DH isn't out of work for too long.

cardamomginger · 25/12/2014 21:26

So so sorry earplug. This happened to DH about 5 years ago. We had some warning as we watched the share price tank hour by hour until they pulled the plug.

It was tough, it was scary and it made us as angry as hell, but we got through it.

Fucking inexcusable for the news of what must have been coming for some time to reach you this way. Special place in hell for people like that.

XXXXX

lavenderhoney · 25/12/2014 21:27

Gosh that's awful. But- the only way now is to get going.

Contact today via email the company he was offered a job with. Who was doing his references? If they are city link get them to email you references at once. Even email ones. Then you have them as everyone will be wanting and you need written ones, just in case people are v busy. Make sure dh is positive and doesn't slag in new interviews. " ah well, just wish I'd jumped before as I wanted to better myself but I really believed in them and their promises for my career and worked so hard."

Administration- make sure you know exactly what your dh is owed. And holiday outstanding and email the administrators and ask what's going on. If he has holiday left I suggest he take it. Because the likelihood of him getting full payment is low after the lawyers, HMRC, and creditors have been paid. Do not worry about taking time off to interveiw. There might be HR help or a number for admistrators for staff but seeing as they announced it today I doubt it.

Get straight on linked in and start looking for jobs, and if he knows anyone at all in a senior position at a company he wants to work for email them and if he doesn't know them then email the HR careers person with his cv. I think it's called carpet bombing.

Look at all your bills, don't panic and pay off what you can. And keep positive.

usefully · 25/12/2014 21:36

I don't think calling them cunts helps at all.

They won't have gone into administration deliberately fgs. They will have kept trading through Christmas to have got as much money in as possible. The bank knows that and pulls the plug at the optimum time with the most money in the bank. Therefore more money to pay off the debts.

It's the way of the world, unfortunately.

I hope your DH finds something else soon x

earplugsahoy · 25/12/2014 21:37

bunny i am sorry that you've had to hear this via the news aswel.

There's another 2000 of us not knowing what is going to happen.

Dh is a shift manager and apparently there is a conference call tomorrow morning where we will find out more information

I feel sick to my stomach

OP posts:
MoreBeta · 25/12/2014 21:38

There are going to be a of retailers and retail related companies going under in next few days.

It is a 'quarter day' today and that means the rent is due on many commercial buildings and therefore banks typically pull the plug just before the rent is paid.

Bunnyjo · 25/12/2014 21:46

Yep, OP, conference call at 10am. I very much doubt the conference call will yield much hope. They'll be losing contracts left, right and centre by announcing this on Xmas Day. Unless Amazon sees purchasing Citylink as their logistics arm (it is well known that they are wanting their own fully operational delivery arm, rather than subcontracting as at present) as more viable than setting up from scratch, then I really cannot see a way out of this.

I also feel sick to my stomach, I imagine we are not alone in that feeling. Much love Flowers

Hissy · 25/12/2014 21:49

I know there has been a LOT of too-ing and fro-ing in the courier industry of late, I thought CL were bought out last week, but I may have it confused with another firm.

I would definitily contact the other firm and every other firm. there is a capacity problem, there are other jobs in this area, your H WILL be ok.

I really wish you and your H all the very best of luck and will keep everything crossed for you.

earplugsahoy · 25/12/2014 21:58

Bunny this depot lost the main amazon contract a while back, the back shift manager jumped ship a while back and went to work for amazon, who are mainly using dhl around here.

I really think we are done for now, all we can do is see how the next few days goes.

How can the ceo's be sat in their homes right now, not even an email to tell us.

OP posts:
usefully · 25/12/2014 22:00

I imagine the CEOs have spent their Christmas Day in talks with the bank.

Not a massively festive day for anyone...

earplugsahoy · 25/12/2014 22:06

Probably not usefully

But Atleast they knew what was coming and they probably have known for a long time
