We were supoose to get paid yesterday, were given a load of excuses by the account eg "I only process on a Monday now payment will be after". Today there is still no payment in my account. I have no gas, no food and need to get the last of my Christmas shopping.

It's not base transfer, we've had issues before where she hasn't paid until the Thursday (fortnightly pay on a monday). I've emailed and text my boss but no reply. Aibu to feel angry and let down, I work so hard, cover when I can etc.

fatowl that's awful! I feel your anger.

IDontDoIroning · 23/12/2014 11:41

Do you know where she lives? Can you and a few of your colleagues go and visit her if she is ignoring your messages?
Or is she in an office somewhere you can get to.?

IDontDoIroning · 23/12/2014 11:43

You may also be able to claim back the costs of bank charges / overdraft etc for not being paid.?
Not to worry you but is she or the accountant just really inconsiderate or flakey or is there a possibility the company may have cash flow issues?
If it's the latter you need to think about whether you should do any more hours before you get paid for the last lot.

msgrinch · 23/12/2014 11:45

Grin that's an idea. I may try and contact the business owner (not boss) and see if there is anything they can do. I guess there's still hope as it was 2 pm last time

I'm shocked Shock

When my business was smaller and cash-flow was tight, sometimes a couple of clients would not pay within the agreed timeframe, with all the expenses involved with setting up new employees, I found it really difficult to meet payroll expenses BUT I resolved that, if it came to it, I would put my own money in rather than not pay them on the due date! This never happened fortunately but I had to make do with very little wages myself on a few occassions to make sure my staff got what was due to them!

How COULD they not pay you before xmas!!! Sad

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/12/2014 11:46

Wtf, talk about jumping to conclusions bonkers. Not everyone gets paid early at Christmas, my pay goes in on the 20th of every month so it would be perfectly logical for me to be using my December pay for Christmas food shopping, and as far as I can see this is the op's regular pay day which hasn't been met, not that she's getting paid early and squandering money she needs to survive in January.

Her company are regularly not paying her on time -that's not her poor management it's theirs.

ClumsyCrocheter · 23/12/2014 11:51

If I was you, I would contact the business owner. That's ridiculous not being paid, regardless of if it's Christmas or not!

MorelliOrRanger · 23/12/2014 11:51

Yanbu, hope it gets sorted.

msgrinch · 23/12/2014 11:52

I'm not getting paid early. This is my normal pay day and my next one will be two weeks away. Definitely not throwing all my cash away (I wish). Still no response from any of them. I think I need to have a long think about whether this is working. I love the company and my colleagues are great but that means nothing when you have this every payday.

Thanks. dp and I have had a really rocky few weeks and actually split for a week (so I haven't brought him anything), we sorted things out last night. He won't be bothered by a Christmas present and the best present for me is that we're sorted and happy but I planned on getting him a couple of little things today Sad

YANBU to be furious. It doesn't matter what you will or won't do with the money.

You worked, you should be paid. End of.

msgrinch · 23/12/2014 12:05

boss has replied saying the money was transferred yesterday at 11 am (outs self) and he can't control what happens at the bank.

OP posts:
msgrinch · 23/12/2014 12:07

Is it to early for a glass of wine. The stress is getting to me Grin

Summerisle1 · 23/12/2014 12:09

YANBU. This is totally unacceptable. Very many people are reliant on their wages to pay their bills and when wages are due they should be paid. Out there in the real world, the luxury of having a comfortable cushion of spare money in the bank is one that's not universally available.

You mention that this is a new business, OP. I'm wondering just how financially stable it is. Only paying staff in an erratic and unreliable manner is often a red flag.

Summerisle1 · 23/12/2014 12:11

Have you checked with your bank again? Only midday seems to be the magic time for crediting accounts with wage payments.

shadowfax07 · 23/12/2014 12:14

If the money was transferred yesterday, perhaps it just hasn't cleared yet? Have you checked with your bank msgrinch?

OriginalGreenGiant · 23/12/2014 12:19

boss has replied saying the money was transferred yesterday at 11 am (outs self) and he can't control what happens at the bank

Boss is talking Bollox. Payments go by faster payment now which is usually within 2 days but definitely same day.

msgrinch · 23/12/2014 12:19

looked on their website the payment clearing times are 9.05, 2.05, 5.05 and 8.05. Fingers crossed for 2.05 and a Christmas miracle!

msgrinch · 23/12/2014 12:21

I know boss is talking Bollocks. It's his speciality lol. He also called me sweetie in the text. Vom.

Totally outs self but doesn't care.

naty1 · 23/12/2014 12:25

I thought transfers were pretty instant.
Nothing your bank could be doing with it. Unless its a cheque.
If you can see its not there you may need for some proof like a receipt.

RojaGato · 23/12/2014 12:25

Fingers crossed with you OP x
Sending yyou Brew Cake

msgrinch · 23/12/2014 12:27

That's what I thought to but the last wage payment was at 2 pm and one before was at 5 pm so that does seem to fit with my bank times. I think I may be clutching at straws but there's still hope.

OP posts:
msgrinch · 23/12/2014 12:28

Thanks roja! I'm having a little prosecco with my lunch. Grin

bonkers but the principle remains that if you spend the salary you have got early on Christmas stuff you won't have any money in Jan. If she is expecting to get paid early, what has she done with last fortnight's salary?

THE Op is not being paid early, the Op is waiting for her wages that should have been paid on Monday - it is now Tuesday and no sign of wages.

In January hopefully her wages will come every fortnight as they should do

I expect the OP has spent her last fortnights wages on food bills etc but thats beside the point

There are laws about paying wages and as another poster said the Op could end up winding the business up due to non payment
