I have spent the best part of two hours attempting to decorate ds a third birthday cake. He requested a sweetie train cake which I have tried my best to do.
Now I will confess it does look a bit like a boat and not exactly professional but a lot of love went in to it.
DH laughed at it and said it was shit and ds will probably say its rubbish.
Now I'm right pissed off with him. He thinks I'm being over sensitive. Aibu or is he?

All I would do is to stick an extra wheel on the train near the front if you've got any spare as I think it's the front shape that makes it look slightly boaty.

Regardless, it looks fantastic and I'd wager is far better than your partner could achieve.

I think that is an awesome cake, and way better than anything I could do. He's a very lucky birthday boy, and he will love it

After the nemo disaster at this end that even two year olds wouldn't eat I'd be proud to have made a cake like that.

I agree with maybe an extra set of wheels at the front, and i'd try piping a little bit of buttercream or icing on the cake board to give the impression of more squareness at the front. But I love the carriages

Homemade cakes are always the best. I managed to fuck up a Halloween zombie cake so spectacularly this year, the DC actually thought it was a Minecraft cake and were very impressed! Naturally, I said nothing.

Maybe he's jealous because his mum never made him such an exciting cake. I think it's great as well. Please do let us know how DS reacts.

The only way it looks even slightly boaty is because of the way the bottom edges of the engine flare out a bit instead of being straight down. But I only noticed that because I was looking for something. If you hadn't mentioned it I would have seen 'train'.
