Ok ok it was made with 100g of Carnation Evaporated Milk, 250ml of semi skimmed milk and 2 whole teaspoons of Demerara sugar . It was delicious though :)

I really struggle to watch my weight and my food needs to be carefully monitored 99% of the time but I love toasting a couple of slices of Warburton's "Thickest" white bread, slathering them with peanut butter and adding chopped banana. Bliss, but not a healthy breakfast!

I like uncut bread cut thickly, toasted and slathered in slow churned butter with added sea salt with a nice mug of hot tea.

Was astounded to see a White Hot Chocolate from Costa has 700+ calories.

Add that to the minimum 400 calories that anything from the cake display has, and you get a minimum 1,100 calories for elevenses .

I've lost 4 stone in 2 years - you'd never guess how .

I really hate it when you see the number of calories in your favourite food/drink. Wetherspoons put all the calorie content in everything on their menu, like "Chicken burger 700cals, salad 10cals, onion rings 400cals, chips 700cals, coleslaw 300cals" so before I used to eat my whole day's calories in 1 meal but it's really put me off now! And I'm not even overweight!

Joolsy I don't often eat out so haven't noticed calories on menus - good idea though.

700 calories for a hot chocolate! I had an orange hot choc at costa the other day, it was lovely but it's no wonder I was uncomfortably full afterwards! Will stick to a skinny cappuccino next time.

Just eating less, and no snacks. And checking the calories in everything.

I'm now lighter than I was aged 18. With a slimmer waist (dropped from 42+ to 34).

Once you see the reduction, it acts as a great motivator.

Some foods/drinks are really surprising. Take Bailey's for example. 121 calories in 37ml - whoever just has one 37ml serving? I used to like a tumbler of it over ice . No longer drink alcohol regularly though as body can't tolerate it very well.

That waist reduction is impressive!

So a double spirit is 275 calories.

It does all add up though and alcohol are referred to as 'empty' calories as it doesn't contain any nutrients.

I've often wished they'd do an espresso-sized hot chocolate. I'd actually rather pay the same but get a teeny tiny one because I couldn't be trusted to get a normal one and just not finish it. They're so rich and intense that they really don't need to be big.

Just had a quick google Lurking and 25ml of Gin is about 56 calories so a double would be 112. Nonetheless you have done fanbloodytastic!

That's a great idea Mammy. I know what you mean, hot chocolate can be really sickly and filling.

I'd rather eat my calories than drink them, so I don't see the point of calorific drinks! I'd be happy with a cup of tea and a slice of cake rather than have a hot chocolate.

If you're in Costa you can get a chocolate babyccino which is basically a small hot choc

But I really don't want to know what the calorie content is when I go out for dinner but it's there for all to see on the menu. As a result it makes me eat less and go home hungry! I don't need to watch what I eat but things like this make me feel guilty. I tend to go to other places now so they've lost my custom

I go out for a lot of coffees with my pals but we are usually in the habit of just having a normal coffee or tea and no cake. I can't 'justify the calories. It's a bit like going to the movies and automatically thinking you have to get popcorn.

If they were calorie free I'd have a hot chockky drink everyday with a slice of malt bread and butter or battenburg cake. I'd also have a beer everyday at supper time. Fortunately, I slightly prefer not to be too overweight.

How come, despite being all metric, we don't use Joules ?

My bad about the calcs I wasn't mixing up grams an litres, but I didn't account that most spirits are 40%. So 50 ml of gin contains 20ml alcohol.

Even a small latte at Sainsburys is 125 KCal ! The only thing I will drink in a coffee shop is americano. The Costa massimo has 12 (yes twelve) calories. And I don't take sugar - just sweetner.

Oh sorry I never thought of that Lurking but perhaps Because it's a smaller number so it doesn't sound so bad :)
