Ok ok it was made with 100g of Carnation Evaporated Milk, 250ml of semi skimmed milk and 2 whole teaspoons of Demerara sugar Blush . It was delicious though :)

What's your naughty but nice secret indulgence?

Ilkley - yes, Americano with milk is what I always have, sometimes hot sometimes cold.

I can't bring myself to try any of the flavoured stuff as I just like very hot, plain Americano with a touch of milk!

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 14:34

Andrew What like having nookie with someone you shouldn't whilst high on drugs then a post coital feast of culinary delights.

MistyMisteltoe Thank you - you have obviously travelled this road ahead of me!

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 26/11/2014 16:58

Yes Misty they are predicting that cocoa supplies will run out in 6 years Shock

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 17:32

Puds how do they know that? I hope it isn't true :(

Andrew oups I didn't mean to give that impression Blush

Hi onilkleymoor.

I shall swoop in here as a professional barista to answer your questions!!Grin

Yes, you can have hot milk in your Americano, just ask when you place your order. Some coffee houses also offer cafe misto which is made with half freshly brewed coffee and half steamed milk.

Secondly, yes flavoured syrup does sweeten the drink. They are literally just sugar syrup with different flavours. One pump of syrup is equal to just under a teaspoon of sugar. Eggnog however, is a different ball game. A true eggnog latte isn't made with flavoured syrup. Eggnog is used instead of milk. It is still sweet though as the eggnog is made with full fat milk, heavy cream, sugar, egg whites, nutmeg and cinnamon. This is why an eggnog latte is so many calories, it's the whole milk and cream that go in it!

HTH.

Here Misty

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 19:28

Oh crumbs Puds Shock - Thank you.

I hope there is some truth in ... But one cause for optimism, he says, is that "the cocoa industry is far ahead of other commodities, like coffee, in putting programmes in place that seek to ensure sustainable supplies".

However, me for one would not mind paying more if it contributed to proving a living wage for the workers rather than just bumping up profits for the Fat Cats.

I think calories should be displayed on everything.

RiverTam · 26/11/2014 19:39

lunch from Pret. Hideously calorific but I love loads of their stuff. Their Christmas sandwich is yum, and they do very good cheese and onion crisps and a yummy choc bar.

GcseOptions · 26/11/2014 19:56

All of the Pret A Manger soups are really very good indeed Grin.

RiverTam · 26/11/2014 20:04

I've never tried a soup. Not enough calories Grin.

GcseOptions · 26/11/2014 20:10

Hmm, are you sure? I hardly think the mushroom risotto soup or cream of chicken soup are low in calories. Blooming lovely on a cold day though.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 26/11/2014 20:10

Bloody hell some of the smuggy mcsmuggerson comments about having the occasional high calorie treat!

writtenguarantee · 26/11/2014 20:41

"Thickest" white bread, slathering them with peanut butter and adding chopped banana. Bliss, but not a healthy breakfast!

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are underrated.

While it may be a bit calorific, you could easily do worse. peanut butter and bananas have all sorts of good stuff (along with calories).

Can I make a confession ... I've never ventured into a Pret A Manger - next time I visit the High Street I think I will pop my Pretty Cherry Grin

I am another who lost weight calorie counting (but not as impressive amounts as some on here!) and now can't 'switch off' the awareness. I now drink black coffee without sugar. Really good coffee is fine without added syrupy flavours, just don't go to starbucks, without syrup, their coffee is not good.

writtenguarantee · 26/11/2014 21:44

I have not calorie counted before so some of the numbers above are surprisingly high. 700 calories in a drink? is it just a cup of oil? that's on the order of 3-4 pints of beer.

A cup of olive oil, apparently, has 2000 calories.

By the way, how do you figure these things out? Does costa tell you the calorie count?

Christina22xx · 26/11/2014 21:49

reading this made me hungry ??

BathshebaDarkstone · 26/11/2014 22:00

I struggle to put on weight, I'm buying Carnation tomorrow! Grin

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 26/11/2014 22:03

Tbh I can't get over excited about this. I actually don't care how many calories is in something. If I want a honey and almond hot chocolate or an eggnog latte that's what I'm going to have. I'll worry about the consequences later.

bigbluestars · 26/11/2014 22:12

Therein lies the route to being obese however.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 26/11/2014 22:17

Not necessarily. Exercising and using moderation for the vast majority of the time tends to help. It doesn't have to be drink only water or be obese
