That 312 calories is too high for a nice mug of coffee?

Ok ok it was made with 100g of Carnation Evaporated Milk, 250ml of semi skimmed milk and 2 whole teaspoons of Demerara sugar Blush . It was delicious though :)

What's your naughty but nice secret indulgence?

Yes Data food is preferable to drink if you need to watch your intake.

Usually I 'cut down a bit' the month before Christmas to try to compensate for all the food & drink goodies that the festive period offers. Nonetheless nothing is banned and everything in moderation is the order of the day.

Well done LurkingHusband that is amazing!

I have stopped eating crap this week and haven't craved any! Even though I have my period and normally eat so much chocolate it explains the predicted shortage!

Mandy2003 · 26/11/2014 13:18

The OP's one is about a third of the calories in a Starbucks (or similar) special coffee!!

LoonvanBoon · 26/11/2014 13:20

My indulgence at places like Costa & Cafe Nero is a double espresso con panna. Just two shots of espresso with whipped cream on - it's better at Cafe Nero because the cream isn't sweetened.

There are probably still loads of calories but the contrast between the cold creaminess & the strong coffee is heavenly, & it's not sickly sweet like the hot chocolates.

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 13:29

Puds there is going to be a chocolate shortage Shock

So Mandy mine isn't naughty at all ? 'Trots off to kitchen' :)

Loon I think I will try one of those next time I treat myself to a coffee when out & about!

Annoys me too. There's almost 300 calories in a medium eggnog latte with semi skimmed milk and no cream! That's ridiculous. Coffee is practically calorie free and semi skimmed milk has virtually none as well. That's purely the chemicals in the syrup that amount to 250 calories! But Mmm eggnog latte... Grin.

I'm not sure how I feel about calories been on the menu. It was helpful when I was trying to lose weight this year but now I've lost it all (all 6 and a half stone of it!) it kind of makes me feel a bit guilty and naughty if I opt for something with a crazy amount of calories in it. I don't really wish to know if I'm honest. I don't eat out very often so when I do its a treat, I don't want to be made to feel bad for it!

I was after those nutella on the go pots for ages, couldn't find them anywhere but kept seeing a lot of people raving on about them on Instagram and I do love a bit of nutella. Finally found them in tescos the other day, 280 calories and the pot is ridiculously tiny! I refused to get it Wink. Being calorie aware is fairly important IMO, it puts me off a lot of things when I think it's just empty pointless calories iykwim. Portion control is the most important thing though. It's ok to have the eggnog latte but watch what you eat the rest of the day and move your arse, it'll be fine! Same goes for anything really. Eat pizza, eat cake, eat chocolate! Just not every day and have one piece of cake not half the cake as I easily used to! I've lost 6.5 stone since the end of April and waist size has gone from a rather embarrassing 43 inches to 31 inches. Purely through portion control and moving my arse. My stomachs shrunk now, I can't even fit half the food I sometimes want to in Grin.

SunnySomer · 26/11/2014 13:37

My indulgence at Nero is an Americano and a gianduja - I think it's about 60cal (though have never found it on MFP, or had scales with me to work out its weight). But it's enough of a sweetness hit to feel like a treat without zapping half of my daily calorie intake. (Not that I'm obsessed or anything).
Avoid anything with cream/syrup like the plague ever since I gained ludicrous amounts of weight in pregnancy by replacing coffee with flavoured milk Blush. Took me YEARS to get rid of it again.

Pikkewyn · 26/11/2014 13:40

Is it being run during or after school? If our PTA run them we do it after school as out of school hours and not run by the school themselves then we don't interfere with the school healthy eating policy.

Pikkewyn · 26/11/2014 13:40

Bother wrong thread!

windymila · 26/11/2014 13:54

Poolomoomon That is incredible, congratulations!

I always ask for 'skinny' milk when I get a latte at any of these places but I didn't actually know if that even made much difference until I just checked. Looks like it can save about half the calories, pleasant surprise!

I always try to cut down for Christmas too, but I think because it's colder it makes me want to eat more!

LurkingHusband · 26/11/2014 13:55

No, massimo is the size, americano is the drink. It's a shot or two of espresso into a cup of boiling water. Basically a "espresso lunghi". I take it black, but you can add milk/cream (they usually ask). And currently, the "Old Paradise Street" blend of coffee at Costas makes an americano more sublime.

from memory the sizings at Costa are primo (small), medio (medium) and massimo (lit. "maximum").

Starbucks "vente" refers to 20 fluid oz of coffee. Always makes me smile, since the last thing Italians would measure coffee in is fluid ounces !

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 13:57

Wow Poo just wow! 6 stones!

Coffee is my vice. I would gladly have that and skip breakfast!

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 14:00

Lurking you sure know your stuff. I am a bit of an ignoramus when it comes to types of coffee etc. Latte and cappuccino is about the limit to my knowledge to be honest.

I have an espresso, its virtually calorie free and helps you loose weight.

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 14:04

Yes Windy colder weather usually increases my appetite. However this year the colder weather coincided with my contracting the flu and it's still not fully returned.

While we have coffee experts around, I have some questions, being somewhat inexperienced in coffee shops.

  1. Can you get hot milk in an Americano? I like my coffee with milk, to taste like coffee and be quite hot. A flat white is too small, but a latte is too milky and I don't like cappucinos (too foamy)?

I would like to try an Americano, but would need milk, but a lot of cold milk makes it too cold IYSWIM? If I ask for an Americano with hot milk, will they let me have one?

  1. Do the flavoured syrups make the drink sweet? I've never had an eggnog latte and often wonder if I'm missing out but I don't like sweet coffee. I'm probably best doing without aren't I?
LurkingHusband · 26/11/2014 14:12

MistyMistletoe

part of my upbringing Smile.

There's only one way to widen your tastes (if that's what you want) and that's to try stuff. Without sounding flippant, a couple of quid isn't too much to sample, and decide if you like or not.

bigbluestars · 26/11/2014 14:19

Sounds gross- I would feel quite sick eating/drinking some of these coffees.

I like being a size 10, so for me a coffee is an Americano with a small amount of skimmed milk- total calories 15.

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 14:27

Lurking were you born a coffee bean Smile J/K.

I do like trying new things and I will definitely order something different of the coffee menu next time I venture into increasingly cosmopolitan world of the coffee shops.

I've just been very good and had a 'mug shot', less than 1% fat and 175 cals. They're like a soup with noodles, great buy at 3 for a pound in B&Ms. Followed with a banana, then a fat free yoghurt. Feeling quite pleased with myself.

MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 14:28

It's true isn't it Big a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips & nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

OP posts:
MistyMistletoe · 26/11/2014 14:30

That sounds like a right proper feast for a lunch time White. What is B&M? I've never heard of that store.

Everything worth doing is illegal, immoral, or fattening, so will somebody please think of a vice which is all three at once?

OP Enjoy.
