Exdp takes dd 8 swimming regularly and all has been fine so far. Now I find out that she is being teased because he wears speedos to the pool. Aibu to think he should dress in a way that doesn't cause embarrassment? BTW he has let himself go and should not be wearing them.

I find this man oddly attractive.

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 18/05/2016 08:35

His weight is a bit of a red herring.

No 8yo wants to see the clearly defined outline of any man's knob, least not her father's. This might be unavoidable if he was engaged in competitive diving, but we're talking here about leisure swimming.

She wouldn't want to see obvious cameltoe or sticky out nipples on her mum either.

I don't give a stuff that they wear Speedos in France. They do all sorts of weird stuff there (as do we, in their eyes).

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 18/05/2016 08:35

Ah, zombie thread Blush

Oysterbabe · 18/05/2016 08:36

Obviously just googling chubby men in speedos. Whatever floats your boat!

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 18/05/2016 08:40

I'd probably come over all unnecessary if I saw my chubby man in Speedos Grin

saoirse31 · 18/05/2016 08:40

So you're teaching your daughter that if someone teases her about something, the thing to do is to change that thing, not to develop the resilience and confidence to deal with teasing. And when the person teasing chges to teasing her about her wright, or hair colour, or way she speaks, or laughs etc, what then? Will you help her change that too?

And separately its none of your business what another adult wears tbh.

paxillin · 18/05/2016 08:56

She's 8. Dad is supposed to be embarrassing.

VioletBam · 18/05/2016 09:00

ZOMBIE thread. Smurf it's not the done thing....to resurrect old posts. So yes, we're all the time police here.

Except you apparently.

paxillin · 18/05/2016 09:03

BLAST. Another fucking zombie. She 10 now, dad will be even more embarrassing now.

HQ, can you lock the zombies pretty please?

Collaborate · 18/05/2016 09:06

Biscuit to those who have called speedos inappropriate. Will rummage around for some grips later. I shudder to think what you expect women to wear - presumably loose fitting outfits that hide the breasts and are loose around the pubic area?

These perhaps?

However- speedos are a bit of a fashion faux pas these days.I wouldn't consider getting away with wearing them, though if I had the body I might.

Seeyounearertime · 18/05/2016 09:13

Budgie smugglers should be assigned to the past, same as all other clothes, effectively making them "ZOMBIE THREADS"

pictish · 18/05/2016 09:14

OMG he's not DIFFERENT TO EVERYONE is he?! Shock

The humiliation of breaking free of the flock...in public!!!

Yanbu - nothing could be more important than being the same.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/05/2016 09:16

Get him some swimming shorts from your daughter for Father's Day. No need to say anything but he will probably wear them if she tells him she chose them

MardleBum · 18/05/2016 09:17

I wonder how you'd feel if he posted somewhere that you shouldn't wear a bikini because you'd let yourself go?

I think you should get over it and quit bitching. He's your ex. It's not your problem or your business.

budgie smugglers! ..More threads like this please..Grin

pictish · 18/05/2016 09:23

Totally agree - if your daughter has a problem she can tell him so and he can oblige her or not as he sees fit. I have no idea why you are worrying about it.

LadyReuleaux · 18/05/2016 09:25

I like dancing speedo man too!

It's all about styling it out. He looks like he's genuinely enjoying himself and that's attractive.

Branleuse · 18/05/2016 09:26

What a bloody shame. Speedos are the norm everywhere else and are practical swimwear.

I dont think he is being unreasonable, but for the sake of his daughters teasing, i would get some different swimwear if I were him, but I think its shit

PurpleDaisies · 18/05/2016 09:27

I suspect the op doesn't really care whether or not she's being unreasonable any more given that this is a

ZOMBIE THREAD.

wolfwhistleme · 18/05/2016 09:28

And smurf, I know its old but I agree with everything you said! ps. Did you specifically search for speedos? Wink

Gwenhwyfar · 18/05/2016 09:29

"In mainland Europe, all the men wear Speedos and the women all wear tiny bikinis, even the very old rather large ladies, any ladies, they don't wear all-in-one swimsuits! It's bikinis and mini trunks all the way. "

There are different countries in mainland Europe you know. In Belgium, you're right about speedoes for men, boxer type swimwear isn't allowed for hygiene reasons, but women absolutely do wear swimming costumes and not bikinis to the pool. Bikinis are worn on the beach.

When I was on Crete, women in their 60s were wearing bikinis on the beach.

LordoftheTits · 18/05/2016 09:30

Argh, fucking zombie threads! MNHQ, can you PLEASE lock these?? This is the fifth time in a couple of weeks I've wasted time reading through before I spotted the date Angry

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 18/05/2016 09:33

Some pools ban loose shorts for swimming and insist on tighter versions because there have been instances of shorts coming down when soaking and heavy according to our pool

Let the man wear what he wants and teach you DD that her dad is an adult and obviously feels comfortable in what he's wearing and the people teasing her are mindless idiots.

If you insist your EX changes his swimming kit what are you teaching your daughter? That you have to change yourself to fit in. Its not a lesson I'd want to teach my kids.
