AIBU to be very pleased that Sheffield Utd have recognised that the rapist Ched Evans is toxic

Very good news.

Good to see some sense being shown (finally).

The rapist Ched Evans will not be signed by Sheffield United because of the 'toxic' reaction to their (stupid) plan.

I don't understand why players' contracts aren't written so they're automatically cancelled if they're in jail.

The contract would be frustrated ie rendered void from the date the frustrating incident occurred. No need for such an express clause actually. I'd be astonished if the football club's lawyers didn't tell them that, so if they kept paying him say beyond the date of sentencing, that would be the football club's choice.

ChelsyHandy · 17/11/2014 20:15

I expect the girlfriend and the father convinced themselves CE was a far bigger talent than he actually was, and was going to do far better than he actually did. They get everything else wrong after all.

LuluJakey1 · 17/11/2014 21:02

TheAlias. Read what I said. It wasn't the the behaviour is typical of footballers but that Sheffield United not being prepared to take a stance and condemn it as unacceptable is typical of how clubs regard this kind of behaviour of the likes of Evans, Rooney, Terry etc. They reward them with further privilage.

LuluJakey1 · 17/11/2014 21:03

Rape should never ever be rewarded.

You don'the pass a dbs, it just shows the results of what is on file, if anything. Ched Evans can get a dbs, it will show a conviction for rape, but he can still get one.

This part in particular made me feel physically sick.

Gilhooly added: “This crime, as alleged, was at the bottom end. There was no violence and thankfully the victim has no recollection of it. This, I hasten to add, does not make it right, or anything close to it, but it is nonetheless a mitigating factor.”

Also in his statement:

“If having sex with a drunk woman is rape, then thousands of men are guilty of rape every day. The simple point is that degrees of intoxication are a very difficult concept for young men to grapple with when they themselves have had plenty to drink.”

Oh so if booze is involved it can't be rape. Twatbadger

Andrewofgg · 18/11/2014 10:43

Holy Fucking Shit. Is he trying to see how many angry tweets one jerk can collect?

BinarySolo · 18/11/2014 10:50

Needless to say Ched's family are retweeting and getting the rather predictable 'well said/good points' response from their supporters.

Thumbwitch · 18/11/2014 11:32

And this bit:
"Yet Gilhooly added: “How can Evans apologise? He is convinced, and has a good argument, that he is not guilty of rape. If he apologised, then he is admitting a crime he feels he didn’t commit. Who would do that?"

He does NOT have a good argument that he is not guilty of rape. He IS guilty of rape. His victim did not consent and had no idea that he would be having sex with her - she didn't even know he was in the room! Therefore, no consent = rape. It's not very fucking difficult, is it!!

Is the definition of rape different in Irish law then, Chunderella or anyone else legal?

LuluJakey1 · 18/11/2014 19:44

It is very interesting that Sheffield United have still not spoken out. I think they are hoping it will all go away and then they will keep him.

Gilhooley is talking shameful crap- but then this is the society in which the lawyers, politicians and church covered up the sexual abuse of children and young women for many decades. His comments speak volumes about attitudes of middle- aged and elderly men to women even now in Ireland - mothers, virgins or whores.

Viviennemary · 18/11/2014 19:55

It is very strange indeed that they have not spoken out. This would suggest to me that there is a chance he will be signed. If he isn't going to be why don't they come out and say that. I thought it was a bit premature taking it as a given that he has cut all ties with the club.

clam · 18/11/2014 21:47

Don't want to click on the Ched Evans site, in case they take it as support, but does anyone know if his camp have commented on the latest developments of him not being allowed to train with them after all? Who are they blaming? Mumsnet?

WeirdCatLady · 19/11/2014 08:36

Really don't understand why Sheffield United are staying quiet. This isn't going to go away. It's not like we are going to get to Friday and all go, oh well, hey ho, lets concentrate on something else instead.

Awww poor cheddy, all those damned femmynists ganging up on him. Guffaw.

Ched's mum has tweeted a copy of that Stuart Gilhooley blog, complaining about censorship blah blah blah.

Someone has replied with this:
@scholarrob: @helenroberts13 @SUFC_tweets its like living in south korea. the mob pressures those who dare speak out n media reports one side only.

Ah yes, that well known oppressive dictatorship....South Korea.

This is the level we are dealing with here!

WeirdCatLady · 19/11/2014 09:28

I did actually just snort out loud.

Andrewofgg · 19/11/2014 10:37

Since scholarrob has his head up his arse it seems right that he does not know North from South. I assume from the name it is a he but all things are possible and it might be a she.
