Making a torte tonight, just seen what dh bought last night. I asked him for eggs and high quality dark chocolate. He managed the eggs OK but came back with g nb 70%.

I know its not awful, but it really isn't high quality stuff. Not even fairtrade and made by the same people that brought you cheese in a can.

Aibu?

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 11/11/2014 18:36

OP, what sort of eggs did he bring?

Golden eggs, clearly.

Bogeyface · 11/11/2014 18:38

What was the offer on vanilla pods?

Really?! Thats ALL you've taken from this thread?

I am not surprised that NM take the piss out of this place, it is well deserved. This thread is a whole new level of batshit!

Bogeyface · 11/11/2014 18:39

Oh and chocolate torte is soooooo last decade, uber naff dahling! You might as well make a Birds trifle and have done with it.

Hulababy · 11/11/2014 18:41

I prefer G&B to Divine... it all comes down to personal taste more than anything surely?

Just like I prefer milk chocolate to dark chocolate. Or anything else really...

If you are very particular about which brands you require, then shop yourself.

Hulababy · 11/11/2014 18:42

ScrambledSmegs - huge taste difference between Coke and Pepsi ime. I much prefer Coke.

stopgap · 11/11/2014 18:51

I eat quality chocolate in copious amounts, and actually G & B 85 percent is one of my favourites.

KatherinaMinola · 11/11/2014 18:55

I was suckered right in up until "scraping a bean". You're good, OP, but you overshot a little there.

KatherinaMinola · 11/11/2014 18:56

Oh yes, world of difference between Pepsi and Coke - I did the challenge too, back in the 80s Grin

Sadly I do prefer Coke.

SauvignonBlanche · 11/11/2014 18:57

Montezuma's on offer at Waitrose here. Your DH has seriously fucked up, will you ever forgive him?

KatherinaMinola · 11/11/2014 18:58

Coke is fizzier, and has a sharp, acidic taste that hits you at the back of the throat.

Pepsi is a little flatter and a 'softer' taste.

Waltonswatcher · 11/11/2014 19:05

Late to this glorious thread but , booja booja is the chocolate of choice in the waltons household - unless its a crap payday and then its ikea . Ikea dark choc is 50p a block and its fab for cooking .
But sadly the threads long since moved on from chocolate .
I spent 2yrs with no cocoa at all-dd wasn't allowed it due to allergies.
It was awful .

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2014 19:47

Vanilla pods on Amazon. I've bought 10 before for £4.50 (very good price) and they're good quality. So I bought 50 for £21.25.

Can't imagine buying more than 10 at a time for home baking use though.

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2014 19:53

Coke & Pepsi taste equally vile to me, I can't bear either. I thought they were identically disgusting, hence why I was impressed.

needyoumorethanwantyou · 11/11/2014 19:55

Wtf?!. I hope you melted some of this proletariat chocolate and rubbed his nose in it while shouting 'no!...no!...dirty!'.

The twunt won't learn otherwise.

ouryve · 11/11/2014 19:58

I get the same vanilla pods, too, Scrambled. Nice big fat juicy ones.

Unfortunately, I tend to forget that I have them and find them rock hard and shrivelled, at the back of the cupboard.

And it's so much less faff to tip in a slug of extract.

VivaLeBeaver · 11/11/2014 20:07

Jesus. My dh would probably have bought ScotBloc.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 11/11/2014 20:10

I think green and blacks are owned by Nestlé which cancels them out as good quality for me.

ouryve · 11/11/2014 20:11

They're owned by Cadbury, which are owned by Kraft.

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2014 20:21

Oh hell yes. I use extract far more than I use pods! But I have to use pods for some things as people expect to see the seeds.

I've tried that Vanilla bean paste from Nielsen-Massey recently but I'm not keen on the gel it's suspended in. It seems really gloopy.

Back in the 90s I once asked my DH to buy marscapone so I could make a Tiramisu. He came home with macaroni cheese - both tinned and boxed cos he wasn't sure which type I needed.......

iPaddy · 11/11/2014 20:36

Oh no Sad my Lindt and Milka illusions are shattered Sad

Please, don't tell me that Toblerone is a lie as well. They promised me it was made from triangular honey from triangular bees, and triangular almonds from triangular trees. Shock

CaptainAnkles · 11/11/2014 20:36

This site gets worse and worse for food snobbery, honestly. On what planet is G&B shit chocolate?

Passthecake30 · 11/11/2014 20:49

Yabvu, that's my most favourite chocolate ever. I use smartprice value for cooking and hide the evidence, no one cares.

Ilikepie · 11/11/2014 20:57

"I'm going to ask DH if he fancies scraping my bean as a special treat.

I only usually allow him extract of bean"

Grin Confused your poor DH!

and why isn't the bold** thing working? I've had to resort to punctuation.
