to think high quality chocolate does not include green and blacks

Making a torte tonight, just seen what dh bought last night. I asked him for eggs and high quality dark chocolate. He managed the eggs OK but came back with g nb 70%.

I know its not awful, but it really isn't high quality stuff. Not even fairtrade and made by the same people that brought you cheese in a can.

Aibu?

Sometimes I use extract, never essence. People are getting the two confused.

I'm not a snob at all, I did day earlier that lidl single oragin is perfectly acceptable.

YANBU

G&B is horrid chalky rubbish with good marketing.

Valrhona for cooking, surely?

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2014 17:22

I'm going to get DH to scrape my bean tonight.

I might even massage his sausage in return.

Waitingonasunnyday · 11/11/2014 17:23

I don't like any expensive G&B, Montezuma is yuck, Hotel Chocolat is meh.

Give me Mr Choc anyway.

wilsonq2 · 11/11/2014 17:24

And if you've not bought G&B for years then how the heck do you know what it tastes like?

I have a friend that still buys it, it is very inferior to months IMHO.

The Pepsi challenge was Pepsi trying to prove that most Coke drinkers couldn't tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi.

There were thimbles of luke warm cola and badges to be had. I used to get very excited when I saw the stand in my local supermarket.

WrigleysBum · 11/11/2014 17:25

Nonsense.

What sort of weirdo ponce face would request "high quality dark chocolate"?? If it was something you felt strongly about/were familiar with you'd just name the brand you wanted.

Unless you're overly keen on ad-speak? Did you also request some orange juice that tastes of sunshine and some sanitary towels which offer superior feminine protection for up to 8 hours?

squoosh · 11/11/2014 17:29

Imagine if OP sent her husband to the shop for ham and he came home with common old wafer thin ham when she assumed he'd plump for jamón ibérico.

Dead man walking.

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2014 17:29

So you can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke?

I'm surprisingly impressed by that!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 11/11/2014 17:30

I lovemontezuma so much I would marry it!

squoosh · 11/11/2014 17:31

Well I could tell the difference when I was 7, not sure if that badge would be mine today!

hackmum · 11/11/2014 17:33

YABVVVU. HTH.

JackSkellington · 11/11/2014 17:35

LTB and call the police.

Or, y'know, be specific next time or go get the chocolate yourself.

UptobedNOW · 11/11/2014 17:38

Yabu, you should have specified if it was that important to you. Perhaps your Dh likes g & b chocolate. Perhaps he knew that whatever he got would probably be wrong so grabbed what was on offer.
Here, have a value chocolate Biscuit

MisForMumNotMaid · 11/11/2014 17:38

In the interests of fairness if you would like to send me one of each bars mentioned on the thread I promise to give full and honest feedback. (The poster who mentioned that they were sat eating a chocolate orange Envy)

HamishBamish · 11/11/2014 17:39

It depends what you're using it for. I think G&B's is relatively good quality, although if I was looking to buy some really good chocolates (for eating, not cooking) then I probably would go for something else. For a mid-week treat a bar of G&B's (although not the 70% stuff) would go down well with me!

merrymouse · 11/11/2014 17:39

Clearly YABU to expect that 'high quality chocolate suitable for a torte' is generally understood to mean 'single origin from lidl, montezuma or waitrose own brand but not green and black's'.

wilsonq2 · 11/11/2014 17:40

What was the offer on vanilla pods?

OP posts:
fairnotfair · 11/11/2014 17:50

Naice chocolate Grin

[torte emoticon]

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 11/11/2014 18:13

This is what happens when I send Dh out for shopping. I'd be more than happy with G&B's Grin

NameChange30 · 11/11/2014 18:15

LOL, this is a ridiculous thread. Best comment award goes to meglet for "LTB", with a runner-up prize to slippermaiden for "you wally". It's true, there's a fairtrade label on it FFS. Plus Green & Blacks is organic and delicious. OP, if you're that much of a snob picky, do your own shopping.

NameChange30 · 11/11/2014 18:22

I would like to retract this comment:

'Best comment award goes to meglet for "LTB", with a runner-up prize to slippermaiden for "you wally".'

Had only read the first page, now realised there are SIX pages and cannot possibly choose the best comments. There are too many good ones.

Shockers · 11/11/2014 18:31

I'm going to ask DH if he fancies scraping my bean as a special treat.

I only usually allow him extract of bean.

Shockers · 11/11/2014 18:33

OP, what sort of eggs did he bring?

I'm really fussy about eggs.

FannyBlott · 11/11/2014 18:33

Green and Blacks is a posh expensive treat here! I haven't ever tried anything pricier.
Really fancy a bar now.
