Making a torte tonight, just seen what dh bought last night. I asked him for eggs and high quality dark chocolate. He managed the eggs OK but came back with g nb 70%.

I know its not awful, but it really isn't high quality stuff. Not even fairtrade and made by the same people that brought you cheese in a can.

Aibu?

miscscph1773 I read that as chocolate willys Blush.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/11/2014 13:58

It is the very definition of high quality chocolate

You shop in Tesco, you're not a conisseur Hmm

You are not grinding your own beans, popping to Guatemala for cocoa butter, or tempering your own chocolate with a joystick made from Jamie Oliver's shin bone.

I want some bournville now! Reminds me of my gran. Also YABU and a chocolate snob.

poolomoomon · 11/11/2014 13:58

Green and blacks is both Organic and fair trade. Yabu.

culturemulcher · 11/11/2014 13:59

Twelveleggedwalk I'm claiming your post as the expanded version of mine. Well said, including the last sentence.

Tinkerball · 11/11/2014 14:02

YABU, is this a stealth boast that you can make a torte and afford chocolate more expensive than G&B? Here have a smart price bar of chocolate. Hmm

MindReader · 11/11/2014 14:03

Sorry, OP, but Laurie's post below made me snort:

You are not grinding your own beans, popping to Guatemala for cocoa butter, or tempering your own chocolate with a joystick made from Jamie Oliver's shin bone.

yabu G&B is fair trade and organic.

WookieCookiee · 11/11/2014 14:05

I've checked my bar & it says cocoa, sugar & vanilla traded in compliance with Fairtrade Standards. It's milk choc as the DC don't like it when i chop dark choc into chunks for the muffins.

It's better than most. I buy because it uses organic milk.

YABU & your DH did well with the choc. What kind of eggs did he "manage"? And which choc brand do you usually use to cook with?

LegsOfSteel · 11/11/2014 14:13

Which brand(s) would have been acceptable OP?

wilsonq2 · 11/11/2014 14:14

Whoops how embarasing it is fair trade, I've been personally boycotting them for years as the quality keeps going down. A few years ago maya gold was the only fair trade and all the rest weren't.

I can't be alone in noticing the quality has gone down? I sent him to wqitrose and they sell a lot of dark chocolate, he just bought it as was on offer

YANBU, LTB! Wink

BreconBeBuggered · 11/11/2014 14:18

You were lucky he didn't eat it on the way home.

merrymouse · 11/11/2014 14:19

I think it is as high quality as you are likely to get in most supermarkets. If you wanted higher cocoa content you should have specified, but he might have come back with nothing.

I know Green & Black is now technically owned by Kraft, but I wasn't under the impression that the product had changed.

wilsonq2 · 11/11/2014 14:19

Montys or some of the named wqitrose brands.

Hell even lidl do some single origin chocolate that is better than g&b

You poor thing, married to an arsehole who not only runs errands but is also able to make an executive decision based on what's the best value Sad

lemisscared · 11/11/2014 14:23

LTB - obviously Hmm

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 11/11/2014 14:25

Well, I hope that bastard is wearing those eggs he managed.

Angry
Artandco · 11/11/2014 14:25

I would have found it slightly strange tbh, especially as Waitrose stocks montezumas ( organic) and divine (fair trade) chocolate. Both taste better, and both currently on offer at cheaper than green and blacks. Lindt is still Swiss made so would be better option also

Waitrose also have own brand continental chocolate for cooking which is really good

merrymouse · 11/11/2014 14:31

Next time, get him to phone you from the chocolate aisle, and perhaps could you arrange for somebody to film the conversation and upload it to youtube? Grin

wilsonq2 · 11/11/2014 14:32

Thanks art, that's exactly it. Of all the high solids chocolate wqitrose sell g b is about the lowest. Lol at least one person gets it.

To the rest of you try doing a taste test.

I think that really fussy people are best off buying stuff themselves.

squoosh · 11/11/2014 14:39

Your poor nerves. Better keep some valium on standby in case the rotter ever insults you with a slab of Dairy Milk.

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2014 14:46

G&B is on the prime eye-level shelf in my local Waitrose. Montezumas is at the top, and Divine at the bottom. Makes them the chocolate you have to seek out, so I can understand why he picked the G&B.

If you didn't specify then I think he did a perfectly good job, getting you something that is perceived as higher quality.

EatDessertFirst · 11/11/2014 14:47

'AIBU?'

'Yes you are!'

'You are all stupid'. -Flounce-

Typical.
