To think kraft have ruined Cadburys

I've never felt the urge to eat a bag of jelly beans while stuffing my face with a bar of whole nut , nor have I been disappointed that the only flavours savoured from my beloved dairy milk are that of delicious creamy chocolate and not strawberry/banana/cola/popcorn etc.

I also like my choc in proper squares! Not the odd ball rounded shapes it comes in these days.

And now no more chocolate coins at Christmas!! Shock

AIBU to think all that was good has now been ruined! Sad

I agree Aldi chocolate is very nice. They do gold coins too, for those who care!

Well the only surprise is that anyone is surprised, really :(

But the odd fillings - well I'm in Australia and they've had a bunch of odd fillings over here for years, well before Kraft came on the scene. Some of them better than others! The Marvellous Creations (I assume they're called the same in the UK) are variable in their acceptability, and the quality of the chocolate over here has always been different owing to the different temps and humidity that have to be catered for (UK was always superior, in most people's opinions).

Perhaps Kraft have standardised the production across the world to fit the most extreme conditions? (Asia and Australasia, I think - I don't know if it's made in or for Africa) Or perhaps they've just reduced the cream level in Dairy Milk, I don't know.

Bloody shame - I was never more upset than when Cadbury's was lost to Kraft. :(

Sallyingforth · 10/11/2014 09:50

As a confirmed porridge eater, I was disappointed to find that both Quaker Oats and Scotts Oats had been bought by PepsiCo. More traditional British brands taken over by a multinational. :(
Hopefully there is less they can do to spoil those products.

worldgonecrazy · 10/11/2014 09:55

Why are Kraft or whoever telling lies? It is blatantly obvious to anyone with more than one taste bud that the recipe and texture has changed.

I loved Dairy Milk but now I stick to Galaxy, or Aldi/Lidl which actually tastes like Cadbury's used to.

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 10/11/2014 09:59

I really thought it was just me who didn't find Cadburys chocolate as nice as it used to be. Reassured then regarding my taste buds but what a shame to spoil such a much loved brand Sad

It's now strangely v v sweet but totally lacking in a real chocolate hit and has a funny odd under-taste now too I find. Yes also agree it doesn't smell right either.

Vagndidit · 10/11/2014 10:00

Hold up! UK Cadbury is still no where near as bad as American chocolates!! It's true that Cadbury is certainly not what it was, but it's still miles ahead of anything the US creates. The US also makes Cadbury bars (well, Hershey has the license to do so there, so you can just imagine...) and THOSE, my friends, are vile.

Still doesn't stop me from craving Hershey kisses this time of year. Nostalgic for American Christmases....

We can't all have dodgy tastebuds, which is what they would like us to believe.

Plomino · 10/11/2014 11:13

It's definitely not right , and all of us can't be wrong !

A bar of Dairy Milk (or two ) used to be my 3am pick me up on a night shift , but the last few I've had I've actually got about a third through and binned the rest , because I thought it was old . Just nasty .

Thank god there's a hotel chocolat I can get to every so often to remember what real chocolate tastes like , instead of over sweetened , vaguely oily goop .

Where I live we have Cadburys thats made in Egypt and Tunisia.

It is absolutely bloody awful.

SouthernShepherdess · 21/12/2014 17:32

Just come across this thread..sorry if I've revived it..but just had some Cadbury's Roses and they have definitely ruined the taste! The old flavour had a distinctive almost punchy flavour, now it is bland, sugary and leaves a horrible aftertaste! Tell me it's not just me.. Cadbury's has officially gone down the pan! Sad.

WetAugust · 21/12/2014 17:50

Ini gave up buying Dairy Milk a few years ago. Then stopped buying chocolate oranges. This Chrustmas will be the first that I have not bought a tin of Roses, but Cadbury's chocolate tastes vile these days. galaxy is also vile now

I keep buying other makes but usually end of throwing them away after trying a few squares

Only Lindt left now.

CinderellaRockefeller · 21/12/2014 19:04

I really like the marvellous creations! The jellybean one is great, banana one is a bit weird. They do sell the normal ones too still, so what is the problem?

HelenaDove · 21/12/2014 19:09

I used to love Lindt truffles but after 16 months of dieting find them too sickly now.

Wonkyparsnip · 21/12/2014 19:15

There used to be nothing better than letting a chunk of Caramel melt in your mouth. I bought one yesterday. It took about 5 minutes until it 'melted' (I gave up and chewed. Wtf has happened???

LittleMissRayofHope · 21/12/2014 19:37

DH and I munched our way through an entire tin of heroes the other night. I felt very sickly afterwards. They seemed sweeter and somehow less flavourful then I remember.

And said tin is now plastic and smaller then it used to be. Sharn't bother next year!!

Edenviolet · 21/12/2014 19:43

Cadburys is horrible now. I opened my xmas tub to cheer myself up whilst sobbing about Dgm passing away today and they didn't help at all Sad tasted too sweet and almost greasy? Not how I remembered them.

Lindt lindor make me feel ill too, after one I feel almost sick and they seem greasy too.

Had to resort to the marzipan fruits in the end but although they were lovely it didn't cheer me up in the slightest

SouthernShepherdess · 21/12/2014 20:55

I agree..very greasy and just well bland! I swear it used to have a smoother texture and more acidity to the chocolate..prefer Lidl chocolate now!

albertcamus · 21/12/2014 20:57

ohhelp I led a school trip to Cadbury World last year, which was a total disappointment. We saw:

  • demoralised workers who found it hard to raise a smile (I don't blame them)
  • crap 'history' explanation : no reference to the benevolent history of Cadburys, instead plastic American gibberish about corporate identity, global branding etc.
  • badly-managed venue with inadequate capacity for booked group sizes, many young children crammed into the (delayed) queuing area
  • outside environment very limited, little to do or see
  • exploitation at every turn, shamelessly luring the kids into spending money, even when I explained that it was one lad's birthday, they would not let him have a 'free when you spend over £30' craptastic chocolate medallion (he only had £15 left)

Nasty place, never again :(

Tobyjugg · 21/12/2014 21:12

Agree totally. Their chocolate taste awful now and haven't seen the plain Bourneville in ages..

itsbetterthanabox · 21/12/2014 21:20

It tastes the same to me. I love Wholenut and I can't tell a difference.
I quite like the fabulous creations too Blush
I've never enjoyed galaxy. It's too sickly.

WetAugust · 21/12/2014 22:22

So what should I buy to get that melt in your mouth loveliness that Cadbury's used to give me?
