To wish posters wouldn't stick random Ds in front of family members

DFriend, DBil, DMil, DF (confusing as can be father,friend or fiancé) DMum.

It isn't necessary and makes stories harder to follow especially if they involve multiple family members.

Can't we tactically agree to DD and DS and DH/P? And just say 'my mum, my dad' and so on?

It is very confusing when someone tells you that they went to a party with their df and their df and on the way, their df rang and said their ds was with their ds and was that ok because their ds liked to play ds with ds and btw, dm had the dm and have you heard about dd problems and since dd has dd should you let them know.

I have never stuck a single random D in front of any family member. Each D I place is carefully considered, both according to the love I bear for that particular family member and according to Mumsnet convention.

It shows we like them. Actually DMil is quite unusual on MN. I do like Ddog it makes them seem like part of the family.

It's a tad arrogant to show up on a forum, complain that you don't like its well-established system of acronyms, and tell its users they should change the way they write, no? No one is forcing you to use the acronyms, after all.

I don't much like the DS/DM stuff either, but it's never occurred to me to demand Mumsnetters abandon it on my account.

My normally referred to as OH is definitely DH tonight and not meaning dear/darling.

It made me giggle reading a thread the other day about an op and her db not getting her a suitable anniversary present and how much she loved him. There was much confusion over her weird relationship with her brother (it was her boyfriend by the way!)

See I use DH etc as it is customary here and "H" sounds so bare. Also feels like making a point on a forum where most people use the D.

But I always make a point of using DMIL and DPIL because I am astounded by how many people bear petty grudges against their own husband's mother, and also DMIL really deserves the D!

I hate "D" personally I find it a bit (cant think of the right word to use without upsetting someone , but I'm sure others wouldn't like how I chat.
I don't think I ever use the "D".
I also don't see a problem with having a discussion around it, or the OP asking the question, but Im not the type of person that keeps doing things the same way just because that's how its always be done, however some people prefer that.
