To wish posters wouldn't stick random Ds in front of family members

DFriend, DBil, DMil, DF (confusing as can be father, friend or fiancé) DMum.

It isn't necessary and makes stories harder to follow especially if they involve multiple family members.

Can't we tactically agree to DD and DS and DH/P? And just say 'my mum, my dad' and so on?

I actually use 'DH' in RL conversation. Blush Been on MN too long I think.

elQuintoConyo · 08/11/2014 07:04

Oh dear, DThemarblecakearch

I'm on a phone, fucked if I'm going to write daughter, mother-in-law etc out in full.

I hate MN - sorry, 'Mumsnet' - names that don't have capitals so I can read them, but hey ho, I'm not a snooty bitch about it.

OwlCapone · 08/11/2014 07:10

It's the way of mumsnet.

I don't think Mumsnet invented it.

TerraNovice · 08/11/2014 07:12

I know I've been on Mumsnet for too long when I see "DH" and now think dear husband instead of dickhead!

MagratsHair · 08/11/2014 07:20

If you get rid of the d though it causes confusion. I was in a thread recently where someone referred to their GP. I assumed they were talking about their doctor but it turns out it was their grandparents. If they had used DGP I would have known exactly what they meant.

Thankyou!

Serenitysutton · 08/11/2014 23:15

Ds/dd/DH are horrible too but such is the MN way!

Heyho111 · 09/11/2014 07:09

The 'darling' bit gets on my nerves. Why? I'm not sure ,but I think it's because it sounds false and a bit protensious to me. I often use just D,S, M, D etc. but that's just me.

Heyho111 · 09/11/2014 07:10

I meant F for the last abbreviation.
