To wish posters wouldn't stick random Ds in front of family members

DFriend, DBil, DMil, DF (confusing as can be father, friend or fiancé) DMum.

It isn't necessary and makes stories harder to follow especially if they involve multiple family members.

Can't we tactically agree to DD and DS and DH/P? And just say 'my mum, my dad' and so on?

OP posts:

I don't use them because it feels weird and unnatural to me... I would never call my husband 'darling husband' or 'dear husband' in real life so it would be odd to do it on here...

it doesn't bother me that others use dh, dm, dd, ds etc, I can usually work out who they are referring to... although I agree it can so stones get confusing - is df dear fiancé or dear friend etc - but I think most posters are aware of this and do try to make it clear in their posts.

katiegee · 07/11/2014 18:36

and I have no idea where 'so stones' came from... or what it even means!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/11/2014 18:36

Not just "D"

I started a thread about putting my GPs in the garage.

No...Guinea-Pigs Grin

D GPs of course .

Vycount · 07/11/2014 18:37

An old fashioned word - it feels twee to me. Grin

gamerchick · 07/11/2014 18:38

It is irritating but you get used. I just click off a thread now if it has many Ds in the post.

usualsuspect333 · 07/11/2014 18:38

Would you go onto another long established forum and tell them to stop using acronyms that they have used for years?

Because I wouldn't.

halfdrunkcoffee · 07/11/2014 18:39

I agree - DD is quicker to type than daughter, but ddad is not quicker than dad so I don't see the point. There will just be so many random Ds everywhere!

usualsuspect333 · 07/11/2014 18:40

Maybe it's because you are 'so stones' that is making you confused.

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 18:41

YABU

Vycount · 07/11/2014 18:41

It can be confusing. For example DD3 sometimes means DD number 3 as in the third born, but others use it to mean DD aged 3.
I wonder what the result of a vote to stop DD'ing would be? Grin

Sprink · 07/11/2014 18:44

I can't be arsed to hit the Shift key that often, especially on a phone. Feck that.

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 18:44

DD (3) is a 3 year old daughter

DD3 is the third daughter in the family.

But if for instance someone put DD16 I would assume that meant their age. I have never had a problem following what anyone says, and you can always ask a question if you are struggling to comprehend.

There are far more annoying things on MN......

StrattersFeeear · 07/11/2014 18:49

There are far more annoying things on MN...

Ohhhh yes. Grin

Kerberos · 07/11/2014 18:56

OP I agree with you

And I've been here years (under various name changes)

It may be part of MN lore but sometimes the clarity of posts suffers due to the volume of DF or even worse "my DFs DCs" etc.

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 18:57

Maybe there should be a comprehension test prior to registering?

QuillPen · 07/11/2014 18:59

I am now wondering how "D"ing people started. Anyone know the origins.

I have never heard anyone in RL talking about a Darling or Dearest or Dear Husband.

Also, if you refer to someone as a OH rather than a DP is it because you don't think they are Dear?

Kerberos · 07/11/2014 19:01

Not necessary.

Just read the post through and ask yourself the question - is it easier to read with the abbreviations or without?

I'm taking DS to see DS and DM/DF tomorrow.

Or

I'm taking my middle sister to see little sister and my parents tomorrow. I like them all.

Kerberos · 07/11/2014 19:02

Ironically I could have done better with middle and little sister explanation :)

FindoGask · 07/11/2014 19:05

It pisses me off too. I never say DH or DD or DS either, just husband, daughter and son like a normal person.

Sprink · 07/11/2014 19:05

Yeah, you kind of let the side down there, DKerberos.

Doobledootch · 07/11/2014 19:09

YABOS

Sprink · 07/11/2014 19:12

Hmm, for YABOS Google gives me tacos and ta-tas. So I'll bite, what is it,

You Are Being...?

usualsuspect333 · 07/11/2014 19:12

Well good for you, DFindo.

Maybe we should all be like you.

Sprink · 07/11/2014 19:16

Never mind, DDoodledootch. Managed to find acronyms list (right pain in the arse from a phone).

wtffgs · 07/11/2014 19:17

Is this all you have to worry about? Biscuit
