To wish posters wouldn't stick random Ds in front of family members

DFriend, DBil, DMil, DF (confusing as can be father, friend or fiancé) DMum.

It isn't necessary and makes stories harder to follow especially if they involve multiple family members.

Can't we tactically agree to DD and DS and DH/P? And just say 'my mum, my dad' and so on?

No. I have worries. I share them sometimes on other threads in Mumsnet (and occasionally Facebook).

This isn't a worry...

Doobledootch · 07/11/2014 19:24

Yes I got it off the acronyms list don't think I have ever seen it used, I'm going to start a one woman revival Grin

FindoGask · 07/11/2014 19:59

"Maybe we should all be like you."

Yes, I often think that. (!) Back in the real world, It's OK for people to find things annoying, you know, usualsuspect, even if they're things you yourself do.

FindoGask · 07/11/2014 20:02

I've been here years too, by the way. And I always moan on threads like these when they crop up. It doesn't get any less irritating.

But on the other hand, I am serenely unmoved by misuse of parent and child spaces, spelling mistakes in thread titles, and how many times other people wash their bedsheets.

kali110 · 07/11/2014 20:02

What does dsis mean?

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 20:03

Darling sister kali.

FindoGask · 07/11/2014 20:03

sister. It's got two fewer letters, though! So saves several milliseconds of precious time to type!

usualsuspect333 · 07/11/2014 20:04

MN is not the real world though.

If you have been here years, you should know that.

notjustamummythankyou · 07/11/2014 20:04

I'd love to put 'd' in front of my MIL.

but that's a whole different thread

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 20:04

I thought it was to differentiate between DS, not for saving letters.

FindoGask · 07/11/2014 20:05

It's OK to find things irritating on mumsnet too. Mumsnet is full of people being irritated about stuff.

Pagwatch · 07/11/2014 20:05

Don't use it or use it - do what you like.
I use the acronyms that were the norm when I joined. I don't think about what their literal meaning is - they just mean husband, daughter - whatever.
If everyone hates them and stops using them they will die out. But ascribing tweeness or anything else to am acronym is a bit weird. It's just shorthand.

FindoGask · 07/11/2014 20:07

"I thought it was to differentiate between DS, not for saving letters"

I find that the words "son" and "sister" make that distinction pretty well already.

Themarblecakearch · 07/11/2014 20:08

I don't mind to standard DH, dd, DS. It's when ddog, dfriend, DM are used I get confused!

Sparkling back I see!?

Sparklingbrook ahaha! I see what you did there. You're saying that I'm irritating too! Oh well, I'll live.

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 20:10

Yes. I am dipping a toe back into AIBU and regretting it. I haven't unhidden the whole topic just yet, but looking in 'Most Active' which mainly consists of AIBU. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2014 20:11

Not at all Findo. Don't be so paranoid. There are loads of threads all the time having a moan about what's wrong with MN. Grin

Themarblecakearch · 07/11/2014 20:17

Yes you do that a lot!

I tend to think aibu is as bitchy as it's posters.

I hid it because it was soo irritating. Grin i have more MN topics hidden than not.

Kerberos · 07/11/2014 20:48

Findo YABOS

(See what I did there...?)

QueenTilly · 07/11/2014 23:36

I like Ddog and Dcat, and if I ever have either, I will always refer to them as such.

angeltreats · 08/11/2014 00:13

I'm sure I've seen DC, DH etc used on other forums too, not just Mumsnet.

Anyway, I'm not a fan. I don't care if other people use them but I wouldn't myself - ever. But then I'm a very fast typist (from a past life as a PA) so "husband" is almost as fast for me to type as "DH", as I'd have to think about the latter. Unless I'm using my phone of course.

I don't mind using OH, MIL etc. But the D makes me cringe a bit.

HicDraconis · 08/11/2014 01:19

I love DDog - partly because that's his name and he is a darling dog. Other dog is VDog. Could call her DVDog but she's not round and shiny :)
