To really worry about a Tory / UKIP coalition possibility?

Can anyone tell me how likely this is to actually happen?

I have a severely disabled daughter and also have quite severe mental health problems myself so I am scared. Actually I am scared for the whole country. I don't think there are many people whose lives would not be affected by the nasty policies of UKIP.

My friend who is from Scandinavia is worried too about the noises being made about us leaving the EU.

Saskia - can I ask which part of the uk you are in roughly

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 18:24

And I agree with him Dawndonna. It IS second rate - unless it an 'emergency' (for which I have reason to be thankful). But as for non-emergency care/treatment it is appalling (as I currently know).

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 18:26

You've only been here a couple of days

If you're talking to me Dawndonna you are VERY much mistaken. I have been on MN for at least 3 years!

And I can assure you (though I don't see why I should) that I am NOT a 'plant' - I just want some proper answer to respouted myths!

FreeSpirit89 · 07/11/2014 18:26

Dawn - doesn't living within a democracy mean she's entitled to an opinion. And to state her opinion without fear of prejudice as you have done so too.

No one has called you a plant of your chosen party. However she may be a support but that's her right isn't it?

It seems to me you've run out of juice for the debate and are taking the easy way out.

FreeSpirit89 · 07/11/2014 18:28

I happen to agree with Paul, the nhs is a shambles. It wouldn't be if you were paying for it.

How can you slam the guy for the truth?

Corestrategy · 07/11/2014 18:30

Yes, how do UKIP threaten the disabled any more than the Conservatives do?

ghostyslovesheep · 07/11/2014 18:35

er we do pay for it ...through taxation

but if it was fully privatised would you be happy for poor people to get a second class health service like in America?

and for some people to get no service at all?

The NHS is brilliant

I bet part of the billions immigrants paid in taxes paid for some of it as well

diaimchlo · 07/11/2014 18:36

Do UKIP actually know what their policies are?????

I have read their "Policies for People" on their website just now and it doesn't promise anything tbh.

What amazes me is that the Tories that have defected to them all voted in favour of the Bedroom Tax and yet they are saying they will abolish it....

They do not mention Social Care or disabled in there at all which I find more worrying than if they had, as these are the people who have suffered under this government. UKIP have a bad reputation regarding their public views on the sick and disabled.

They also say they will stop CB at 2 children not 3.

As for Welfare reform - UKIP supports a simplified, streamlined welfare system and a benefit cap That really worries me, the vulnerable targeted again!!!!!

So OP YADNBU to worry about them the very thought of them getting into any position that they could be in a Coalition or even Nigel Farage being PM is horrific.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 18:38

but if it was fully privatised would you be happy for poor people to get a second class health service like in America?

Who says they would? Perhaps we would ALL get a First Class service Smile

FreeSpirit89 · 07/11/2014 18:40

I would be happy for a health care system to remain free for children and the elderly. But it should be mandatory for health insurance, keep the nhs by all means but you pay for all non emergency care.

The nhs once left my grandfather sat on a ward for 8 hours without food or drink because he was waiting for an operation. That would have never happened if he'd have been a paying customer, because at the end of the day all they want is your money.

ghostyslovesheep · 07/11/2014 18:46

how though - I am happy for you to show me which model of private health care provides an equal standard of care for though who pay and those who can't AesSedai - can you explain how that would work?

Free so how would the poor pay for perscriptions, controception, no urgent but necessary medicine (Lithium, Thyroxin, Insulin) ? what about dental health?

ghostyslovesheep · 07/11/2014 18:46

ignore my spelling - Kittens on keyboard

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 18:49

Can't explain it to you ghosty - I was just saying that 'perhaps' in reply to yet another 'assumption'. Ask an economist if you want an answer.

The current NHS isn't working, though.

FreeSpirit89 · 07/11/2014 18:50

Ghostly - it would be covered under the insurance, a bit like pet insurance does.

diaimchlo · 07/11/2014 18:52

Google ATOS,UNUM and Maximus...... both American health insurance companies that have been banned and have extremely bad reputations for not paying out for treatments be them emergency or not.

Yet this government has included UNUM in an advisory capacity for the WCA and Maximus has just been offered the contract that ATOS are leaving. The CEO of Maximus was also the CEO of ATOS:

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/senior-atos-executive-finds-new-role-at-the-american-company-taking-over-disability-benefit-9831973.html

So really can you be sure that insurance will cover everything you may need?

ghostyslovesheep · 07/11/2014 18:56

and if people can't afford insurance Free

AesSadai you don't need to be quiet so rude?

AllBoxedUp · 07/11/2014 19:03

freespirit I'm kind of missing the point of the thread but I think rememberance Sunday would be a difficult topic for reception age children when it relates to the thousands killed in war. I know I've given my 4 year old a wooly answer about supporting the army and helping people who've been hurt when he asked about poppies. WW1 would be a bit hardcore.

I'm Scottish living in England and before the referendum thought it was silly how much people were warning of a possible UKIP coalition but am a bit scared now. It's made me much more pro PR as I live in a safe Conservative seat and it's frustrating to think my vote is essentially wasted.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 19:25

AesSadai you don't need to be quiet so rude?

Please explain ghosty, eh??

diaimchlo · 07/11/2014 19:49

Aes you are coming over as being rude tbh

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 19:55

Please explain why? I am never rude to anyone!!

handcream · 07/11/2014 20:02

I dread Labour getting in. Ed Milliband could well be ousted. However the boundaries does favour Labour and by default they could get in, look what happened last time..

And what is wrong with limiting CB to 3 kids.

plinkyplonks · 07/11/2014 20:04

Eh? NHS in Wales is a shambles - yes.

My local NHS services are fantastic and top notch.

Tory/UKIP combo sounds like a complete and utter nightmare.

Labour/Lib Dems really do need a kick up the arse and get an electable leader in place.

Fingeronthebutton · 07/11/2014 20:04

I'm not ashamed or embaressed to say that I will be voting for Ukip. Most Tories look down their noses at disabled people. Labour pay lip service to the disabled, they don't give a toss either. They buy their their votes ( and the unemployed) at a huge cost to the tax payer instead of working to get all these people into work.
As for the subject of cb being stopped after 2/3 children: who are the breeders in this country?
For myself: it's got nothing to do with race/colour/religion. It's numbers.

peggyundercrackers · 07/11/2014 20:36

It would worry me more if labour got in, their leadership team are absolutely abysmal, who would trust or believe any of them? I can't see how they will get in given they wI'll get next to nothing in Scotland and ed is getting a hammering in the poles. I think it's inevitable that a tory/ukip coalition is on the cards.

IsabellaofFrance · 07/11/2014 20:51

But UKIP (according to their last manifesto) want to cap all benefits, and those who have disabilities will receive the same flat rate.
