AIBU?

To really worry about a Tory / UKIP coalition possibility?

Can anyone tell me how likely this is to actually happen?

I have a severely disabled daughter and also have quite severe mental health problems myself so I am scared. Actually I am scared for the whole country. I don't think there are many people whose lives would not be affected by the nasty policies of UKIP.

My friend who is from Scandinavia is worried too about the noises being made about us leaving the EU.

A lot of UKIP voters/supporters are branded racist because they want a tougher control on immigration, To want the Asian doctor at my GPs Surgury to be able to speak English and be understood by there patients doesn't make me racist, it makes me practical.

To want my children to be taught about English/Christian traditions in schools as well as other cultures festivals, doesn't make me racist. My reception child came home with a Diwali festival light and themed homework the other week, when I asked if they were doing anything for Remembrance Day I was met with blank stares.

Btw I'm not voting UKIP, but those are some of my own views. A lot of the older generations of my family are openly racist and voting UKIP. My grandfather is from a time where it was acceptable.

Aes, devils advocate will never bring about sense. Like we saw with Scottish independence, people feel the need to attack and belittle other people to get them to change there views.

okay so what will happen to the 2 million UK people in Europe ...will we house them and find them all jobs?

My Grandfather would have been 97 this year - he NEVER found it acceptable to be racist

"To want my children to be taught about English/Christian traditions in schools as well as other cultures festivals, doesn't make me racist. "

Why should children in UK schools only be taught about English traditions? Seems a bit unfair to the Scots, Welsh and Irish. Ditto Christianity. What about people of other religions or none?

FreeSpirit - it annoys me when people spout off, but when asked questions they refuse/can't answer. I am open to anyone's views - just not 'respouted crap' !!

I haven't spouted, nor have I supplied inaccuracies or untruths.

I would certainly rather vote them out than in. However realistically, with things the way they are, there is no one there I actually want to vote for.

Saskia- she didn't say only, to be fair. Read the quote you posted again.

I'm humanist - that isn't taught in schools - but it is at home

I don't want my children to have one religion held up as superior - I'm happy for them to learn about different religions equally - they do a lot about Easter and Christmas

No idea how old your child is Free but my youngest 2 have poppies to buy in school and my yr 6 child has done a major project on WW2

I'm always curious on what 'English Traditions' are ??? Morris dancing? Beef eating???

Saskia - if you retread the section of my post you quoted you will see the "as well as other cultures"

So no children in UK schools should be taught about other cultures a well as there own.

And that highlights my post perfectly people see what they want to, and ignore the other logical arguements.

FreeSpirit does your children's school not do an Easter play/bonnet parade, Harvest Festival or Christmas play then? Maybe ask the head if they can

Ghostly- my only is 4. It may just be our school that doesn't seen to take an interest in teaching our cultures too. Since he's only been there for half a term it's too early to tell.

I personally think there is too much of a cultural divide and the politics are making it worse. I teach my son that people are people, were all human.

Ah yes, I can see FreeSpirit did mention other cultures, apologies.

But, I still don't like the idea of English and Christian traditions being somehow the default. I find this conflation of Englishness and Britishness quite offensive. Not least because it completely ignore large swathes of the UK. Similarly, I strongly believe that schools should be secular, and religion - of any faith or denomination - should only be discussed in theology/humanities lessons.

I haven't spouted, nor have I supplied inaccuracies or untruths.

But you haven't given one accurate statement, nor answered any of the questions I asked. You'd make a good politician !!

but people are also different - that's what makes life interesting Grin

we aren't 'all the same' are we. Maybe give education a chance before assuming they don't celebrate Christian festivals the way they do others

I would look at manifesto of parties in power for the last 50 years, I would bet a penny to a pound that few proposals ever see fruition. The reality of implementing the ideas would be prohibitive.
I think you can relax and stop bosom hoiking.

I meant Christianity because I'm speaking from own experience in England. Of course Ireland would have it's own cultures, and traditions to teach. As would Scotland and Wales.

I intend to give the education a change, as I said it's only early days. But I would like them to be taught about all, the world is a wonderful place.

And we are fortune we don't have to travel far to taste others cultures anymore, however there is fear were losing our own identity along the way.

NHS

Paul Nuttall UKIP on the NHS
NHS Reform
Dear Editor,
I would like to congratulate the coalition government for bringing a whiff of privatisation into the beleaguered National Health Service. The fact that successive governments have undertaken what they call ‘substantial’ changes to the NHS should tell us all we need to know: there is something fundamentally wrong with how we treat the ill in our country.
The NHS is the second biggest employer in the world, beaten only by Walmart, but as with all state monopolies, it is costly, inefficient and stuffed with bureaucrats. In New Labour’s NHS, for every nurse there is a manager and vital workers, such as midwives, are falling in numbers.
The problem, however, goes far deeper. I would argue that the very existence of the NHS stifles competition, and as competition drives quality and choice, innovation and improvements are restricted.
Therefore, I believe, as long as the NHS is the ‘sacred cow’ of British politics, the longer the British people will suffer with a second rate health service.

That's it for now. You've only been here a couple of days and I don't believe that you're not plant/supporter. Your mission is really quite obvious and a tad trying.
