To really worry about a Tory / UKIP coalition possibility?

Can anyone tell me how likely this is to actually happen?

I have a severely disabled daughter and also have quite severe mental health problems myself so I am scared. Actually I am scared for the whole country. I don't think there are many people whose lives would not be affected by the nasty policies of UKIP.

My friend who is from Scandinavia is worried too about the noises being made about us leaving the EU.

UKIP have very clearly displayed their feelings with regard to those with disabilities on a number of occasions. They had to remove their previous manifesto due to the policies regarding disability being a tad distasteful.

missbishi · 07/11/2014 16:22

UKIP want to limit CB to the first 3 kids only, that's one pretty nasty policy I can think of...

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 16:23

Or Dawndonna do you mean "some UKIP candidates have individually clearly displayed their feelings"?

I can find nothing in their Manifesto that discriminates against the disabled.

IsabellaofFrance · 07/11/2014 16:27

Their old manifesto talked about 'congregate communities' for people with learning disabilities. That is a pretty shit policy which was written in black and white.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 07/11/2014 16:28

Despite the massive amount of airtime the BBC are giving to UKIP, which creates the impression of a UKIP landslide coming, it's likely they will only get a few seats. That in itself is bad enough and it is possible that even with a few seats they might have the balance of power.

Remember they have one seat, they only gained that seat a few weeks ago. The MP they have was a Tory who held the seat but deflected to UKIP, triggered a by election and won the seat again. So really not that surprising.

The best thing anyone can do is vote, educate yourself, read, talk, ask questions and get involved in local activity. The more you know the less there is to fear and the more you can do about it.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 16:28

UKIP want to limit CB to the first 3 kids only, that's one pretty nasty policy I can think of..

Some would call that sensible (you want children, YOU pay for them, not me).

missbishi · 07/11/2014 16:28

AesSedai Yes, some UKIP candidates HAVE individually clearly displayed their feelings! This is what is worrying people! Nobody wants people with those attitudes running the country.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 16:30

Yes missbishi - but I think you will find that Nigel Farage has jumped down hard of them, and they are no longer candidates? He has done a good job of weeding out the more obvious ones.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 16:33

Their old manifesto.......

That just it........their 'OLD manifesto'. What about their new manifesto?

Rebecca2014 · 07/11/2014 16:33

Why are UKIP racist because they want controlled immigration? they do not want to stop immigration but have a point system like Australia, America etc do.

Also UKIP are not as anti welfare as the Torys are, UKIP have said they want to higher the amount of money people get on job seekers.

I will be voting for UKIP but I would rather they went in with Labour. I would actually vote Labour if they had a stronger stance on immigration but hey ho.

killerlego · 07/11/2014 16:34

I'm more scared of Labour getting in and destroying the country even more than the Tories have. Most of the problems we have stem from the Blair/Brown years. I dread a Labour government.

grovel · 07/11/2014 16:34

I suspect we'll get Con/Dems for a second term.

Bowlersarm · 07/11/2014 16:34

I think you are right to be worried. I think UKIP may get a lot more votes than people think they well because Nigel Farage is an excellent orator. If he has any kind of a platform leading up to the election I think he'll do well. Particularly as Ed Miliband is unpopular and becoming increasingly more so, and Nick Clegg clearly is unpopular too. I think it's a problem (for anyone not wanting UKIP), and I hope I'm wrong.

mrsruffallo · 07/11/2014 16:36

Lots of countries have the policy of no extra benefits after the third child. I don't think that's nasty, I think it makes sense. A points system for immigration is used successfully in many countries.

mrsruffallo · 07/11/2014 16:37

I just can't vote Labour, I always have before but I think they would be disastrous in the present guise.

hiddenhome · 07/11/2014 16:38

Labour is the real threat. This country is totally screwed if they take over next year.

killerlego · 07/11/2014 16:38

Why is it wrong to limit CB to 3 kids (I doubt it would be retrospective)?

grovel · 07/11/2014 16:38

The UKIP Economic spokesman says in the Spectator today that his party would have only demand in coalition. An EU referendum ASAP.

If we had a Con/UKIP coalition I reckon it would be effectively a Tory government with a "hurry up" on Europe.

theposterformallyknownas · 07/11/2014 16:39

I don't vote myself so not up with demographic of figures for age ranges, but have found that the young voters aged 18/25 are talking about voting UKIP, especially in the NW. They are very vocal about it too, and feel they are the better BNP.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 16:43

Why will nobody answer my queries re "the disabled"?

IsabellaofFrance · 07/11/2014 16:45

Why will nobody answer my queries re "the disabled"?

You asked what was removed from their manifesto and I told you Confused

missbishi · 07/11/2014 16:45

I can totally understand the idea of not having kids if you can't afford them - I can't afford a third myself - but for me, the thought of kids not getting properly fed, clothed and housed overrides things. Also, what if Mrs Average Wage was to get pg with a fourth by accident? Overthinking things, I know...

Wishtoremainunknown · 07/11/2014 16:46

3 kids ? Try one. After the date the policy is implemented.

AesSedai · 07/11/2014 16:48

Why will nobody answer my queries re "the disabled"?

You asked what was removed from their manifesto and I told you

So why are people on here still quoting it and running scared? Can't they read that it has been removed? Or is it Chinese Whispers?

killerlego · 07/11/2014 16:49

missbishi - but it wouldn't be retrospective so no kids that currently exist would suffer. It would presumably be a future policy to put off people having kids that they can't afford. Nowt wrong with that.
