To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

That link to the Daily Mail story is so sad. How the fuck is it possible that a rape victim can be hounded and harassed so determinedly and yet no-one is in prison for it?

Is there no law which deals with this?

londonrach · 26/10/2014 08:01

Agree askbasil. Found this recently which surprised me. www.chedevans.com. Court found ched guilty, he served his time (not saying anything re length of time served) i would have thought he would have want to have kept a low profile now. Put this behind him. Get on with his life. His poor victim deserves to be left to rebuild her life too, hopefully with lots of support not this.

sashh · 26/10/2014 08:12

London

That went up a few days after he was found guilty, that was when his friends and family were tweeting the victim's name and other choice comments.

londonrach · 26/10/2014 08:17

Sassh im surprised. I thought he want to keep a low profile. Ive not followed case and knew nothing and had no idea ched even existed until judy said something on this morning and people attacked her daughter and it came into the normal media. (One day ill find time for the news) Low profile surely is best for both involved, especially the victim!

Mumraathenoisylion · 26/10/2014 08:39

That poor girl lost her mum and her life and now has to live like a ghost. Sad while they swan around making dm sad faces about it all.

Are they even human??

anonacfr · 26/10/2014 09:08

Can't believe his family have hired someone to hack inton Facebook account and find deleted messages.
Isn't that illegal?

sashh · 26/10/2014 09:27

London

Just as the rapist evans was released his gf and mother stopped tweeting. They have spent the last 2.5 years leading a campaign against this poor woman and saying how evans is the victim.

Not sure if that is worse than the tweets I've had claiming the only reason I'm defending her is because I'm a 'wendy' and if I was a SUFC fan I'd 'know' it wasn't rape.

Mumraathenoisylion · 26/10/2014 09:35

I understand 'Wendy' in MN context but what do they mean by 'Wendy'?

londonrach · 26/10/2014 09:41

As i said before i know nothing of the case just shocked that the social media seems to be making bullying the victim. Cant understand why rapist ched wants to do sad dm photos etc. wouldnt he want to come a low profile which want the victim would want too.

sashh · 26/10/2014 09:44

London I assume they mean a Sheffield Wednesday fan

georgedawes · 26/10/2014 09:49

I wish there was some way of letting his victim know how much support she has, what an horrific ordeal she has been through. And is still going through.

AppleYumYum · 26/10/2014 11:04

Let's hope this generation of girls make a difference, I'm getting a t-shirt: vimeo.com/m/109573972

purplefeathers · 26/10/2014 11:27

I'm glad that someone on the victim's side has spoken out.

I think Ched Evans' main issue (and that of those around him) is that they don't understand what rape is. And I don't think they have any intention of trying to understand. Their ignorance is astounding. I just don't think they'll ever get it. As long as she was in that hotel room she was 'fair game' as far as they're concerned. No bruises, no scratches, no struggle = not rape. I don't know how one begins to educate such narrow minds.

And i agree that what Kyle Evans has been attempting to do (i.e. hack into the victim's Facebook) must be illegal, no? Is there nothing that can be done about her behaviour?

The whole clan appear to be totally amoral.

I know. I really hope she could see this thread but I assume she will not be Googling his name.

DuelingFanjo · 26/10/2014 12:19

Appleyuyum, to be honest the video you link red yo is just a viral advert aimed at selling T-shirts and Imo is inappropriate for this thread.

buy from here rather than from a homophobic company who exploit girls and women for profit.

Sorry to derail.

georgedawes · 26/10/2014 12:26

Indeed phaedra. I so hope she has support in real life. I wish I could give her a hug.

AppleYumYum · 26/10/2014 14:39

Hmm yes you're right Duelling, just had a look into them, not buying the tshirt! Apologies, didn't mean to derail. Just that I saw it last night and thought it was an effective vehicle for getting the anti sexism message across on a viral scale, particularly Ched Evans generation.

I just feel so dispirited after seeing the public's comments on twitter or at the bottom of an online newspaper article about Ched Evans or any story like this. You think things have come a long way, but from the safety of behind a keyboard it's the same old views.

Clayton McDonald's career ruined by rape case

DuelingFanjo · 27/10/2014 09:54

more here

I’ve been in the same position as Ched and know what it’s like. To be accused of rape is terrible. I had a difficult time trying to concentrate on football while all this was going on.
Clayton also added he believes Evans is innocent and he will do everything he can to help his friend.

He went on: “I have visited Ched in prison ever since he was sent down and saw him last month. This week has been terrible.

“There has been a lot of hassle for us both. It was very hostile and people just don’t know the facts. I do, I was there.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 27/10/2014 09:55

Diddums

DuelingFanjo · 27/10/2014 10:01

I guess McDonald has to stick to the 'I was there, it wasn't rape' line because if he stops supporting Ched then it puts doubt on the whole story.

Personally I think he would be better off just fading into insecurity. Anyway, surely if he was a great football player then he would be getting a great job. I don't believe mud sticks that well, particularly not in sport.

AliceLidaaagggghhhhhl · 27/10/2014 10:13

I was reading that yesterday, about Clayton McDonald and his need to get another job to support his footballing one from the conference league.

One thing that stuck out for me is that he said he was dropped by some other team after only a month because the controversy around Ched being released flared up again.

Well good. The best we can say of CM is that he received a different verdict to CE, but still didn't walk away covered in glory for the behaviour he has admitted to of his own accord.

And so if CM's own admitted to behaviour and involvement is too shameful for a club to keep him on, surely CE's actual conviction is too shameful for any club to take the risk of employing him in any capacity.

Andrewofgg · 27/10/2014 10:51

CM deserves no sympathy. A jury found him NG and so be it; but on his own version of events he is beneath contempt; just not so far beneath contempt as CE.
