To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

Coren my mistake

YonicScrewdriver · 24/10/2014 22:08

Victoria Coren makes a feature of her lack of empathy, I think.

I still think Evans committed a rape. The law does clarify that the victim had not agreed or consented to have any physical contact with this person. She will always be the victim to me. As a mother of a son he also was a victim of poor education in respect of the culture of young men thinking if they have a certain income or status they can mercilessly buy young women. Youngblood women must hold back.... If he likes you'll he will be in touch. If he isn't in touch you are well off out of it. What bothers me more is are football /sports clubs and parents/ teachers educating young people must appreciate that being a WAG has its compromises. Perhaps there is a gap in the market to fill this?

BrokenButNotFinished · 24/10/2014 22:26

I don't see anything amiss with that article, actually. Her thoughts on the book are just not the usual emotional response one might have to an account of a rape... But from the sound of it (I haven't read it) the book is unusual too. It's a bit patronising of any of us to suggest what sort of relationship Sam Geiner should have with Polanski when she has clearly spent years processing what happened to her - and in communication with him.

The more you read the more twisted this case gets, women getting threatened with rape for being rape apologists is the ultimate irony, how can you be anti-rape apologist but still think rape is an acceptable way to silence women?

Sunbury1986 · 24/10/2014 22:46

Empireof dirt... Sincere apologies - misprint - Young girls need to think about why they've gone out, who they expect to meet, and what might be expected of them after a night of -free- very expensive booze/ champagne /vodka. It most certainly should not mean they are raped but we are missing some education here beyond teaching kids to put a condom on a banana.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 24/10/2014 22:48

Yes, we need to educate more males not to rape

is that what you meant ?

I have never assumed that I can penetrate another persons body because I've bought them a vodka, and I've bought a hell of a blot of vodkas in my time.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/10/2014 22:58

Sunbury, what? Do you know anything about this case??

vindscreenviper · 24/10/2014 22:58

Why would it make a difference even if they had bought the drinks? except they might have been considered even more predatory for being complicit in the victim being drunk.
