to have thought you wear a suspender belt UNDER your knickers?

I think I've been labouring under a misapprehension here. I've worn stockings once or twice, and have always worn the belt under my knickers.

However, somebody at work was saying she wears them occasionally but found them really awkward to go to the loo in. I couldn't understand why, until I realised she has the belt and straps over her pants, so she has to unclip, or they won't go over the top of her stockings.

So I mentioned that if you put them on first, and your knickers over the top there was no problem. She looked at me as if I were mad, and said that that was definitely the wrong way around to wear them. Everybody else agreed with her.

So AIBU to have thought that (I was convinced I was right), and if I wear them again, WIBU to do it the 'wrong' way, since I can actually go to the loo without severe undergarment rearrangement?

Hope the mannekins may not find themselves needing to drop the knickers for any purpose at all, really, so it wouldn't matter much for them.

Bit of a snork at the person wearing suspender belt on to of knickers. Soo many missed opportunities, sigh.

I wear them the same way as you - knickers over belt. I wear stockings every day and it's really comfortable - wouldn't be if I did it as your friend does. Confused

I've always gone over. I can see why under us more practical but when I've been wearing suspenders it was more to do with the look rather than weeing.

i used to like wearing stockings as they were more hygenic and I used to suffer from thrush. The style of skirts in the 80s suited them but i think I wore them under short skirts when I was young as well and more unaware as sometimes you could see the suspender mark through skirts I felt.

When I was very young, my mother wore a girdle (definitely with large knickers over). It came down so low, in order to squish in the bottom and hips, that I never could work out how she managed to go to the toilet and not wee on it. (These things are of huge interest when you are 5).

If I asked, she never told me, so I still have no idea.

However, she did ditch it in the early '70s (along with her bra - never one to half do things.)

Knickers over belt, certainly.

I stopped wearing tights about 25 years ago, I'm 46 now. (They always made me too hot).

I've worn stockings ever since, and if you get the right belt, they are surprisingly comfortable, and I'm a size 20 waist.

I get my stockings online, as I don't really like the basic shop brands.

I've also some across a website that sells vintage-style belts, ranging from the current standard of 2 straps per side, all the way up to 7-8 straps per side (think some fetish thing is going on there....Grin)

I certainly think the pictures of models with belts over the top of knickers is simply so you can see what they look like.

It never would have occurred to me to put knickers over rather than under. Seems obvious really.

However, I've only ever worn them once, on my wedding day. Just as I got top of the top of the aisle, one of the clips snapped, and I had to spend the rest of the ceremony trying not to look the vicar in eye incase I started hyperventilating with the effort of not laughing.

I probably wouldn't know that knickers go over the belt if my mother hadn't preferred stockings to tights.

I have never seen a picture or mannequin with the garments being worn correctly, so I am not surprosed that a lot of (younger?) people think that suspenders over pants is correct.

Tsk Fry give your mind a scrub Grin. More clips means less twist. Much more comfortable Smile

Vintage is definitely the way to go for everyday wear. Modern fripperies ar just designed for half an hour of bedroom cavorting.

Definitely suspenders under knickers. Can your colleague not see the the advantages of this? She prefers to struggle in the loo?

This is the worst bit for me... i used to work in la senza and never knew whether it was under or over. Gun to my head i would have said over. I've never worn them in my life Shock

Definitely, definitely, suspenders under knickers. I write as one who had to misfortune to go to boarding school in the 60s when we all wore them, and I confirm that to a girl we wore knickers over the suspender belt.

Mind you, I wouldn't wear stockings now if you paid me.

We always wore our knickers over our suspender belts in the 60s.
I had to wear long grey ribbed stockings for school and being tall they were never long enough (I'm only 5'7" but that was obviously tall in those days). I think you lot have a totally different view of stockings; I certainly didn't see them as sexy, even lovely American tan ones Grin.

Definitely under. It can look just as sexy if the belt is at your waist and the pretty knickers below that line. And easy to get knickers off for any action. If wearing a thong though, the belt goes over. But I don't do that because I hate them.

My mom taught me to put my pants over suspender belt when I was in my teens... It was a revelation!
I prefer stockings to tights, I find tights give me thrush. Fryone, might I ask what style belt you find works? I am also large of waist and those skimpy Ann summers style belts just don't cut it!

This is a revelation.

The one and only time I wore them i was also wearing a basque and driving about 35 miles. So on top of finding out that a basque does not make the best driving attire I also killed the moment by having to ask my now dp to help me unclip so I could go to the toilet. Romantic.

Alpaca This is the website I mentioned earlier, and it was the XXL 2 strap belts I bought.

A bit pricey, I know, but I recently got 2 belts in size 20 at Sainsbury's! In the sales admittedly, so thought at £4 a belt worth a shot to see how comfy they were. Something like this

I like Charnos everyday stockings, they do come in sizing for larger ladies and are really comfortable. I've got one pair of 100% wool, proper opaque, but they're so warm I have only worn them once. Grin
