I think I've been labouring under a misapprehension here. I've worn stockings once or twice, and have always worn the belt under my knickers.

However, somebody at work was saying she wears them occasionally but found them really awkward to go to the loo in. I couldn't understand why, until I realised she has the belt and straps over her pants, so she has to unclip, or they won't go over the top of her stockings.

So I mentioned that if you put them on first, and your knickers over the top there was no problem. She looked at me as if I were mad, and said that that was definitely the wrong way around to wear them. Everybody else agreed with her.

So AIBU to have thought that (I was convinced I was right), and if I wear them again, WIBU to do it the 'wrong' way, since I can actually go to the loo without severe undergarment rearrangement?

What!?!? Surely I've not been doing this wrong too! I always thought the flat side goes against your scalp? They never fall out of my hair.

Knickers over belt definitely. I agree that now it is not seen as a proper item of clothing and therefore, there is no need for practicalities.

Suspenders belt under knickers.

My mum used to wear a 'roll-on' in ye olde days. I think it would be impossible to put your knicks on over one of these babies. Maybe that's what your sexy colleague wears?

I think they only advertise suspenders over knickers so you can see the product fully and its not hidden by knickers, this has caused the belief that's the way they should be worn.

Totally impractical to wear that way.

Knickers on top. I always wear stockings rather than tights, as tights are such a faff to pull up and down. Why would anyone want to introduce the faff to stocking-wearing too?

jelly try it, feels a lot more secure. Everyone I know uses them the other way, not sure why!

I was feeling pleased that I've been wearing knickers/suspenders the correct way, then I read that about hair grips.

Roll-ons as, the name implies, roll up and down when you go to the loo.
Knickers always underneath so as not to spoil the smooth outline. They were never used for titillation purposes though, not surprisingly.

I didn't know that pants went over the belt until a while ago but it seems so obvious now!

And yy about kirby grips, I saw this on Pinterest a couple of years ago and if blew my mind!

When I was in my teens, there were no tights, just stockings. And we all wore suspender belts, under our long fleecy knickers. (You must think I'm Queen Victoria, but this was in the fifties) Then a 'petticoat'. I even wore a liberty bodice as a child. My mother too wore a roll-on rubber corset, and she had to talc it daily to get the thing on and off. Also a bra that came down to her waist.

Over here. Always used to wear stockings on a night out cause of this - taking tights up and down a million times when drunk always led to me ripping them!

This puts me in mind of a shopping trip with my Gran. We went to the Ladies, and she went in and did not come out for ages, and ages....and ages.......

Turns out she had accidently put her corselette on over her knickers when getting dressed.

I always thought you should wear your corselette over your knickers because that was what you saw in the pictures on the box, but of course you would not have seen the product if the knickers (covering from above the belly button to the knee) were over the top............

My mum used to wear one of those roll ons like the picture Kit posted. It was one of her great pleasures to peel the damned thing off when she got home from work. I remember her saying, 'I wonder if the Queen gets her own roll on off at night and has a good scratch or does she have servants to do it for her'.

The practical way, so you can got to the loo is under your knickers (I used to wear stockings all the time for work.

Suspender belt goes under the knickers for general ease of access. However, some lingerie adverts have this the other way round in order to show better the suspender belt

A friend of mine when I was a student was completely startled when I told her this. She'd been grumbling about how much of a faff it was undoing everything to pop to the loo - it had genuinely never occurred to her to put them on the other way round, as she had only seen them on the mannequins in shops.

I think that the wearing knickers under the belt is a modern thing from people seeing shop dummies in Anne Summers dressed wrongly.

I haven't worn one for years' but under the knickers so you can yank them up and down. The belt was around my tummy and the straps each side so they never came into contact with me going to the loo???
