Dd2 has been unwell for 3plus weeks.various symptoms including fatigue, sleeping all day, erratic blood sugars (shes diabetic), looks pale, memory issues, headache sore throat tummy ache and backache
Saw gp three timea this week and they couldnt find the cause.she was so sleepy and had very sore eyes yest so we went to a and e today.
They were absolutely fucking hateful to us.dismissed our worries and laughed in my face when I said I was worried dd may be anaemic
They looked in her throat said it was fine and declared she looked well to them when they have not seen her over the last three weeks ill and this week in particular.
I asked about a full blood count and they got agressive saying I was asking for a blood test for my own reassurance and proceeded to talk about bleeding a child and sticking a needle in dd just to reassure me it was horrendous.
Dd has to have procedures done reg due to her other problems and they were terrifying her and being rude and dismissing us.
Im so worried about dd and now so angry and upset.she isnt right and nobody will take it seriously

I just feel so worried about her thatsvwhy I stood my ground but now I feel like im almost scared to go again if she gets worse because of how they made out I wanted a welk child to have needles atuck in her

That really is not normal and I can't believe they sent her home.

Does she have a temp, what's her pulse/respiratory rate. Any signs of swelling or beat around the catheters?

How are you getting her to eat or drink? Thanks

wanttosqueezeyou · 10/10/2014 17:56

Four years old, chronic underlying condition, 3 weeks with no improvement, no explanation.

I think it is an A&E issue.

And unless they've assessed her properly they don't know either way. And there's no need to speak to either of you in that manner.

Really reminds me of the child I mentioned before who was repeatedly sent home by GP and then A&E but immediately admitted and dealt with by paed A&E. She wasn't gushing blood or unconscious but she was seriously ill and slowly getting more so.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/10/2014 17:56

Heat

Stillwishihadabs · 10/10/2014 17:57

Phone just swallowed a long and probably rambling post. I feel like I am telling all of mumsnet to go to a&e tonight and it's honestly not cos I've got the night off. OP I would go back to the same dept (if you reattend you usually have to be seen by someone more senior). I think your Dd does need blood tests (an 8 year old diabetic being carried to the toilet is a worry). That department needs to know they are failing and going to another hospital won't achieve that. Btw there is supposed to be a consultant available til 8pm.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 10/10/2014 17:59

Hedgehog80 If your worried about that attitude from them then I'd call NHS direct and get her the out-patients GP, that's a better second opinion to refute theirs.

Stillwishihadabs · 10/10/2014 18:02

Did they at least check her urine ?

Stillwishihadabs · 10/10/2014 18:04

It's Friday night I think the OP s Dd needs to be seen before Monday.

Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:04

She had a very slight temp on mon but none since. Her throat has been very sore but nobody who has examined her can see any redness. Pulse etc all fine apparently.
Tests for utis all negative.
Getting her to drink has been a struggle yesterday was so bad I was syringing water in with a med syringe while she was lying on the sofa. Today a little better but not much. Food has been an issue she will eat teeny amounts which we can adjust the insulin for but she's just got no appetite. It was very difficult treating hypos yest and last night we usually use glucotabs or juice but she was crying didn't want them and couldn't even be tempted with jelly babies (unheard of for her to refuse them).
I just feel like I'm watching her fade away over the last few weeks. I've never seen her so lethargic, a couple of times she has looked positively grey.

Your poor DD - you must be so worried. I would complain in writing to PALS about the way you were dismissed.

Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:06

Cannula site and sensor site look fine. Got to change her cannula now anyway (ev two days) so would see if it was sore

Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:07

They said the urine was negative but did send it off as they said they do that routinely.

It was the consultant we saw earlier who terrified dd2 as the first dr we saw tried to send us home. The consultant marched into the room, at no point examined dd herself and said she could tell by looking that dd was fine and def not anaemic.
She kept asking me what I thought was wrong and what tests I wanted. I said I'm not the dr surely from the history we have given you must have some ideas but she kept saying dd was fine. I asked would a full blood count show up anaemia and any other problems and she was aggressively asking why I wanted her to bleed my well child it was horrible.
Then when they went to do it not actually helping us hold dds arm and saying it was because they didn't agree anyway

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/10/2014 18:10

By god she needs a work up :( how is she when she's awake? Is she coherent?

Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:11

They said I had to verbally state it was only for my reassurance I said it is because dd is unwell that I want it done but they kept saying no its for YOUR reassurance isn't it

OP posts:
wantstolickwilliamgraham · 10/10/2014 18:16

Wow you really need to see someone else OP. Not even to examine her, that's fucking arrogant of the Consultant- you need to complain about them.

Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:16

She is some of the time, other times is forgetting things and confused. Last week she couldn't remember her class or teachers name and her friends name and was blank momentarily.

OP posts:
Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:17

It was the laughing in my face about the possibility of anaemia. Saying she could tell just by looking.

OP posts:
wantstolickwilliamgraham · 10/10/2014 18:18

Can you see someone else at all?

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/10/2014 18:22

Is she falling asleep at school?

minkymuskyslyoldstoaty · 10/10/2014 18:24

i am mortified on your behalf, the fucking unprofessional consultant needs to be complained about to Pals.

Make sure you do op.
What the fuck is wrong with some people, belittling and scaring patients.
I have fought at a&e to be taken seriously twice, different hospitals.

Both times there was something wrong with my dd, one of them pretty serious. ( got the raised eyebrows too, that it was all in my head, till they scanned my poor dd and found the cause of her intense pain.)

You poor thing, i hope you can find a reason for your dd's illness. xxxxxx

Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:25

There is another local hospital but I had gone to the one we did today as ironically thought they would be better (other hospital had previously misdiagnosed dds diabetes as a virus then a uti and she ended up seriously ill they also misdiagnosed ds1 anaphylactic reaction as impetigo and more recently told us dd had coeliacs then said she didn't so I already had little faith in the nhs) maybe I should just go there and hope we get to see a good doctor.
I just feel so let down and worried about dd2

OP posts:
Edenviolet · 10/10/2014 18:26

She hasn't been able to go in this week as could barely even stand. Last week she only did three half days. Things have just been getting worse

OP posts:
Badvoc123 · 10/10/2014 18:27

I have had this with my dc.
Sent in by gp and then made to feel like a time waster.
Do you have another choice of a and e?
(There are 2 near me)
If I were you I would be either phoning NHS direct or going to a different a and e and hoping to see someone with more sense.
I would also complain. I didn't and really really wish I had.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/10/2014 18:27

Just take her back. To another a&e

She needs that blood test by the sound of it
