To wonder about all these hobbies that your DHs seem to have?

Inspired by a number of freds where the OP states that her DH has a hobby that (invariably) takes up all their time.

I always wonder what that hobby could be. Is it just me?

If your DH has a hobby, please can you tell me what it is so I can go to sleep :o?

TIA

Racing historic sports cars.

Since his big crash in a previous season, I've been less enthusiastic for him. He was ok, his beautiful car wasn't. I've not been to many meetings with him this year, I just don't have the heart for it any more Sad

AlleyCat11 · 08/10/2014 23:48

Painting toy soldiers. Does it at home.

lurkernowposter · 08/10/2014 23:50

Where do these men find the time for their hobbies? I have all sorts of fitness equipment, bikes, remote controlled toys etc they are in the garage collecting dust. I bought a PS3 when they first came out, I even had a go on it once but I'm far to busy at work for hobbies.

Flamenco guitar - teaching and playing
Chess chess chess - I feel like a chess widow some days
Online nerdy strategy games
Pissing about with computers ? programming/building/tinkering
Cycling & running but no lycra
Baking Grin

But I get a similar amount of time to spend on my projects and things, and he does make money through the guitar playing

Music. He plays piano in a jazz trio, and also at home in order to drown out the children.

Peanut15 · 09/10/2014 06:46

Farming.

It's a business and a hobby.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/10/2014 07:23

Kung fu. Once a week evening class, used to be twice a week. One Sunday a month all day thing. Used to go on week long Kung fu summer holiday but hasn't since we had children because it uses up his holiday time.

And lots of leaping around in the back garden with a very big fork.

MelanieCheeks · 09/10/2014 07:34

Where does he find the time? He is self employed and works from home.

BellaVita · 09/10/2014 07:48

Road biking here.

Ragwort · 09/10/2014 07:59

Sport/fishing/more sport/coaching sport/hiking/even more sport/going to watch sport.

I am very happy that my DH has hobbies to keep him busy, active and happy - I see so many people without hobbies (men and women) and I think it is really sad - my parents are in their 80s and my dad still plays sports a few times a week and both my parents volunteer etc.

And yes, I get plenty of time to do my hobbies as well Smile.

Allotment and wine making - I approve of both but the former is very time consuming. He also began that one when I was 36 weeks pregnant with our second child. Well, we would need something to fill our time after all!

My DH's 'hobby' has huge overlaps with his work. He bloody loves it. As for time. He works a lot of (shifts and weekends away) hours. Sometimes he'll go to the nearest hobby related place to his work (if on nights / has a day off and it's too far to travel home for one day). Our holidays will include parts of his hobby and he also spends a week of his holiday time doing his sort of work voluntarily (as the heritage version can't afford his time).
It was my DD's interest in his hobby that led to me finally being brave enough to start talking to him, both my DD are quite keen (but not obsessed) by his hobby and I love a bit of travel and history so it all works nicely for some of our family days out too.

I'm glad DH's main hobby (stargazing) doesn't take him out all day at weekends too often, but really pleased he's doing something where he belongs to a club and has made friends, as he was very much a stay at home and do nothing much type before, I've always been the one with the hobbies and interests. I study with the OU, am on 2 committees and have an allotment, so we're fairly even.

VermillionPorcupine · 09/10/2014 09:14

DH's is making cakes.

He makes elaborate birthday and wedding cakes, usually just one a week. (unless he's making a traditional fruit wedding cake which he starts 12 weeks before the wedding).

The good thing about his hobby is that he makes money out of it. And it saves us a fortune on kids birthday cakes, and did on our wedding cake, which he made.

Territorial army, climbing munros, visiting all of Simon Jenkin's 1,000 best churches (he has a spreadsheet to show his progress - he's done half the munros and a quarter of the churches so far.) Polishing his shoes to a gleaming shine, and reading.

desperatedoll · 09/10/2014 09:38

Circus performing

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/10/2014 09:43

Mine spends hours, days, weeks, hell years actually, constructing and painting in minute detail Airfix models of military planes. It keeps him out of trouble I suppose, but I then have to have the darn things on display in my house Hmm

Also, hours and hours every week playing tennis. I used to resent that, when there were little kids to bathe and put to bed, but I don't mind now: I get to watch what I want on the tv!

Peppageorge · 09/10/2014 17:01

My husband loves cars, lego, tinkering with electrical things and skiing. Cars - tinkering with historic ones, repairing newer ones, sometimes racing them, watching F1, going to places like Le Mans to watch cars race. Lego - we had Lego favours that he made for our wedding! He also loves the snow and everything that goes with the snow. He genuinely gets more excited by snow than my 4 year old!

PoirotsMoustache · 09/10/2014 20:55

Cycling. And bicycles. I never realised there were so many types of bikes and how expensive they could be. Or how much upkeep they need. Or how important proper cycling clothes and shoes are. Or how many parts are required to be purchased for them from e-bay.

Oh, and judging by the camera roll on his phone, he also enjoys taking many, many, many, many, many pictures of his bikes, both sections of and whole. From different angles. Sometimes, several of them are from the same angle.

Playing in a brass quintet
Playing in orchestras

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 09/10/2014 21:21

Birding. He used to take drag us all out to march round, sit by and look at muddy fields and cold windswept beaches. Now he has birding mates, he works funny hours, goes when I'm at work.
Swearing at his crap team.
