To wonder about all these hobbies that your DHs seem to have?

Inspired by a number of freds where the OP states that her DH has a hobby that (invariably) takes up all their time.

I always wonder what that hobby could be. Is it just me?

If your DH has a hobby, please can you tell me what it is so I can go to sleep :o?

TIA

He volunteers with the tidy towns. They do the cleaning and maintenance of the plants and flowers in the village. He's also developing a video game. He was cursing last night because the clouds in the background weren't scrolling. They went away and never came back. Grin

Motorbikes. Specifically restoring older motorbikes. So this requires:

Finding a suitable bike on eBay or other sales/ bike forum
Chatting bollocks with the previous owner.
Arranging for shipment of bike.
Admiring bike, taking photographs, talking bollocks with other friends on bike forums.
Taking bike apart.
Locating replacement bits on eBay etc.
Talking bollocks with the sellers.
Arranging shipment of bits.
Arguing with courier companies.
Putting new bits in place, taking photographs, talking bollocks with other bike fiends.
Ocassionally riding the new bike, before selling it.
Babysitting eBay listings.
Talking bollocks with new/ potential buyers.
Arraning delivery
Arguing with couriers

Rinse and repeat.

Road Cycling, squash.

Greenrug85 · 08/10/2014 07:51

Bloody xbox.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 08/10/2014 07:52

Mechanics (now turned it into a career and yet the garden still looks like a scrap yard)

Gardening (however due to the resident scrap yard he thought it wise to take on an allotment Hmm

Stamp collecting (thankfully doesn't have much time for this one anymore but the loft and various cupboards are still full of bags of unsorted stamps and loose stamps still have a habit of just appearing in random places)

There was an odd day when all three of these hobbies collided when a set of important/special stamps were discovered on a parcel containing a spare part for the lawn mower. Grin I don't think he'd ever had such a happy day as that.

Studying part time for a BSC with the OU.

Watching star trek.

Writing a sci-fi novel. He's an amazing writer.

Cycling (once in a blue moon).

He goes to a drama group too.

My dh (and sons) sail. And restoring his wooden dinghy, reading about it on various forums and scouring the internet for bits is his passion

welshpixie · 08/10/2014 07:59

Trains,
"I am not a trainspotter, I am a train enthusiast". Yeah right, the trouble is he wants me to go on trips with him to strange stations and then to look excited. I can either go or I can look interested but not both.Grin

minipie: Yes! I see this in a couple we're close to, with very young children: he spends loads of time on his bloody hobby, while she picks up the slack. We've fewer children than they have, and we don't have time for hobbies...

I really hope everyone here gets a fair deal.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2014 08:03

Basketball.

He used to play video games but he doesn't now the kids are a little older, it's too time consuming.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 08/10/2014 08:05

DHs hobby is 1 evening a week and v occasional weekend afternoons - am hoping to start an art club soon which will be similar time commitment for me. It's only fair!

Letthemtalk · 08/10/2014 08:07

Cycling and running, thankfully either cycles or runs to and from work every day so it gets out out of his system.

EmmaGellerGreen · 08/10/2014 08:08

Wargaming, so painting tiny soldiers, tanks, planes. Modelling scenery. Reading about games. Playing games with friends. Weird but harmless enough.

Piccarcas · 08/10/2014 08:10

Hobby/vocation/life's work is "tidying the garage". It's what he does at every opportunity and yet sadly, it remains a work in progress!

attheendoftheday · 08/10/2014 08:13

Dp teaches an aikido class and does leatherworking, we also do a bit of reenactment and live action role play together.

magicalmrmistofelees · 08/10/2014 08:14

Rugby. Training 2 nights per week, match at a weekend, plus watching matches on the TV or going to games whenever he can!

attheendoftheday · 08/10/2014 08:14

Oh, and playing board games. Love that!

superbagpuss · 08/10/2014 08:16

am dram - normally one night a week but coming up to a play its two nights a week and all day Sundays

worldgonecrazy · 08/10/2014 08:19

Metal recycling. It pays for my hobby of champagne drinking.

LiverpoolLou · 08/10/2014 08:24

Radios. Our garden looks like a secret service monitoring station with all the aerials, wires and gadgets he's installed.

Also wildlife. In amongst all the wires are bat boxes, owl boxes, hedgehog houses, ladybird houses, you name it - he's feeding it. We have enough bird feeders up to feed the entire bird population of northern Europe.

whois · 08/10/2014 08:25

An extreme sport plus also MTB.

I think I spend more time on hobbies than DP though. He is mainly at work. I play netball 2x a week plus mtb at the weekends. I would probably also have 'going out to restaurants with friends' up there with a hobby because that's what I seem to spend most of my free time and money on!

Astronomy and playing on the playstation.... Neither take up a huge amount of time. He really likes reading best, as do I, so we spend a lot of down time sitting on the sofa next to each other, reading.

cherrybombxo · 08/10/2014 08:38

Playing his bass guitar (loudly), playing the Xbox (loudly), watching football (shouting loudly about penalties and off-side), banging around in the kitchen (loudly, and what he does can't be called 'cooking')... my life is filled with mess and noise and we don't even have kids yet... sigh...

FunkyBoldRibena · 08/10/2014 08:40

Football, watching and going to the match.
Beer - festivals - although only about 4 a year. Another tomorrow afternoon - hurrah!
I have all the fun hobbies in this house, allotment, community garden [now my business], greenhouse, making stuff, seed saving, woodwork, prepping wood for the woodburner.
