Inspired by a number of freds where the OP states that her DH has a hobby that (invariably) takes up all their time.

I always wonder what that hobby could be. Is it just me?

If your DH has a hobby, please can you tell me what it is so I can go to sleep :o?

TIA

Golf - plays at weekends but usually waits for DS' nap time.
Evenings watching golf on tv or perusing golf websites in winter. Summer playing once DS in bed
Trips to large tournaments like Open and Ryder cup. We sometimes go with him (especially when it's in Scotland), rent a flat and make a holiday of it.
Holidays always to nice hotels with golf course nearby (but this usually means spa/kid's club so no hardship)

He plans to indoctrinate DS when he's older.

RosesandRugby
Aww I like the sound of him. Does he whittle alone? Can you set him up with a tray and light in front of the TV?
I'm off to investigate for myself now.

DH has phases of hobbies - below is a selection Grin

Cycling, marathon training, watching any football, golf, rugby or Grand Prix and feckin Sky Sports News at any opportunity

He's also into writing (blogging, books) diving, model trains, building a gym in the garage and his work industry (as in doing things for the industry outside of work).

We both have lots of hobbies so get equal time to play them out

Running

Bastard running

Doing the running daily at least once
Talking about the running with his coach on the phone daily for ages
Going to watching the bastard coach run
Going to watch the twatting club members run
Attending coaching talks about running
Racing or extra running to train for the fucking race at least once monthly.
Browsing the internet for running clothes
Attending running club socials
Writing his running diary up
Dealing with his pre running race nerves
Avoiding pre race sex because it affects his running

He fucking loves running.

Me? Not so much.

Running
Motorbikes
Reading graphic novels
Editing videos
Gaming
Playing his guitar

I share the first 3 interests with him, though my taste in graphic novels is different to his. And I'm ambivalent towards the rest, apart from gaming which can irritate me.

My dh hobby for the about the last 8 years is researching the family tree. Which involves-
Tapping away endlessly on his comp to people all over the world.

Visiting cemetery's.
Visiting relatives.

Cleaning head stones.
Sending out loads of emails.

He's found out some interesting things but it can get expensive when you buy the certificates at £10 each (birth/marriage/death).

gordyslovesheep · 08/10/2014 07:15

my ex was in a band - this involved rehearsals, gigs, travel all over the world, spending lots of money on guitars etc and not having much time for us

SavoyCabbage · 08/10/2014 07:17

Surfing
Yoga
Guitar

Hakluyt · 08/10/2014 07:19

I though "having a time consuming hobby" was usually a euphemism for "being a man child who plays GTA for hours at a time not realising this is not an activity for an adult human being"

Painting. Canvases, not walls.

I wouldn't say that it takes up all of his time though because work is taking up all of his time at the moment.

He also collects early 20th century ceramics, but we both do that so it's a shared hobby.

trinitybleu · 08/10/2014 07:26

Renovating our boat. Major projects now completed (had new wiring, plumbing, engine etc.) But always something to be scouring eBay for, it seems ....

OddBoots · 08/10/2014 07:26

minidisco Roughly where in the country are you please? My 15yo ds has loads of transformers and minicons from when he was about 4-8yo that we're not sure what to do with.

firesidechat · 08/10/2014 07:27

Oh and he plays the guitar when he has the time.

Somanyillustrations · 08/10/2014 07:29

Horses. Luckily it's a hobby that I share, and DD is just starting to get into. Not cheap though...

fuzzpig · 08/10/2014 07:31

DH's hobby is running, but generally he fits it in with work - he often gets changed after his shift and runs home. So it only takes up the odd weekend day/morning if he's got an actual race.

WalkingWolf · 08/10/2014 07:31

Warhammer Confused

Card game where you put spells ect on each other Confused

Going to ice hockey matches

Ice skating. (Actually thought he was joking when he said him and his friend where going for ice skating lessons together Grin )

DP also gets obsessed with things for a while every so often then gets bored.

WalkingWolf · 08/10/2014 07:32

Oh and skyrim, GTA ect.

Dog Agility. Very compaitible with my hobby which is dog training - although he runs our own dog and I train other people's dogs.

I do get a bit resentful in Competition season (which is roughly April-March Hmm) because he works all week then goes to competitions all weekend whilst I'm stuck home with the toddler. Hmph.

MrsDavidBowie · 08/10/2014 07:43

Golf. Plays virtually every day.

Primafacie · 08/10/2014 07:44

Wow, thank you, loads of replies!

Some of these sound fun, particularly the unique ones like whittling and juggling.

Writing/producing dance music

Chandon · 08/10/2014 07:46

polo

looking after 4 ponies, keeping them fit, and riding them in matches....

takes up lots of time! It's an all or nothing hobby.
