To think this is hideously misogynist

A guy I know has posted a status on Facebook (I know I know) saying that he 'wished more women were like his baby daughter, beautiful, unable to speak or criticise him, and able to get her feet in her mouth'.

AIBU to think this is a disgusting thing to think, never mind actually say on a social media site? Not sure if I'm overreacting, but I feel really sorry for his dd if this is the attitude her dad has to women. I realise it's meant to be tongue in cheek, but judging from previous 'ball and chain' esque comments he's made at social events about his wife, I suspect it does betray a very real and present misogyny.

I think my DH (who is in no way a sexist, but very relaxed about everything) would tell me to chill out and ignore it, but more and more I'm seeing this sort of thing as the tip of the sexist iceberg. Am I going crazy, or is this man a knuckle dragging Neanderthal?

It's revolting. But hard to really say why. Definite sexual connotations. Poor kid. And long suffering wife.

bodhranbae · 26/09/2014 20:30

What a dick.

Chapina · 26/09/2014 20:31

I was going to post that it was a slightly inappropriate joke and not really misogynistic, but thoughtless. But actually, it is, YANBU. How the hell do you look at your dd and think that comparison or joke is funny?

redbinneo · 26/09/2014 20:32

He is obviously a twat, one more reason for avoiding Facebook.

rainbowinmyroom · 26/09/2014 20:32

I'd write back, and this is the world we are in, where she will grow up and some guy will think the same thing about her that you just wrote, because we learn how to be treated in a relationship from our parents.

toobreathless · 26/09/2014 20:33

Urgh!

That gives me the creeps.

Yanbu

pluCaChange · 26/09/2014 20:36

OMFG, there's a LOT to "criticise" in him, isn't there?!

Charitybelle · 26/09/2014 20:37

I can't be bothered starting an argument with him as we're not close friends and nobody has liked or commented on his status, so I can smell the disapproval of everyone else on FB hanging in the air like a silent fart.
I also suspect that if I challenge him, I might inadvertently draw out some other closet Misogynists to his defence. I don't want him thinking he's a pioneer MRA, when really he's just a bit of a twat.

abigamarone · 26/09/2014 20:40

Wrong in so many ways - is he going to think less of his daughter when she does speak and dares to have opinions?

AnyFucker · 26/09/2014 20:41

it's up to you whether to challenge, but YANBU

Charitybelle · 26/09/2014 20:41

Needless to say I will be avoiding his company as much as possible in the future. But if he makes any comments when i do see him (prob unavoidable in some social scenarios) I will challenge him directly. I'd much rather do it to his face than start a childish FB bun fight. They never end well Grin

OP posts:
thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 26/09/2014 20:46

If I were you I'd love to comment underneath: "I wonder what your DD wishes men to be like.? Funny, thoughtful and clever just like her...mother" and certainly not like you, you creepy, unfunny, misogynist

With a non passive aggressive Smile emoticon at the end as it's just a 'joke' innit? Wink

gincamparidryvermouth · 26/09/2014 20:53

I wonder if he has any idea how much of a revolting pervert freak he's publicly shown himself to be. He's just told everyone he knows that when he looks at his infant daughter waving her legs about, instead of seeing his baby being a baby, he imagines her lifting her legs towards her upper body in order to expose her vagina to maximum advantage for penetration. He's fucked in the head.

squoosh · 26/09/2014 20:55

WHAT kind of woman decides 'this creepy, sexist git is the man for me'.

Ugh, ugh and ugh again.

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 26/09/2014 20:56

Awful, and would be misogynistic even without the nasty sexual innuendo. Even leaving that out, he's saying he wishes women would all keep their mouth shut - how can be anything but misogynistic?

OP, YANBU. My rule of thumb is that any behaviour which indicates that the perpetrator views a given class of people as automatically less deserving of decent treatment than themself is unacceptable.

MiniTheMinx · 26/09/2014 20:59

What a twat, he obviously has no problem putting his foot in his mouth.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 26/09/2014 21:02

I would have quite a lot to say about a FB comment like that. What a knobber. Poor kid.

CarbeDiem · 26/09/2014 21:07

Urgh!
That's really creepy and I find it a bit sickening tbh.
Yanbu.

usualnamechanger · 26/09/2014 21:09

Truly disgusting. How can someone see a baby and make those connections? Ewwww

Woozlebear · 26/09/2014 21:09

Oh fuck me that is creepy, perverted and utterly utterly grim. The misogyny would be quite bad enough but the fact he's exposed to the world his fucked up sexual associations with his own daughter is unbelievable. If it wasn't so grotesque and horrifying for her, it would almost be funny. In the sense that he has unwittingly created his own punishment- everyone who knows him thinking he's a total fuckwit.

Woozlebear · 26/09/2014 21:12

Oh and someone needs to remind the stupid knob that just because someone can't verbally criticise him doesn't mean he's not still a total twunt.

TheVermiciousKnid · 26/09/2014 21:13

Ugh, wrong on so many levels...

DecisionsDecisionss · 26/09/2014 21:15

Yanbu. I'd say something.

placidjoy123 · 26/09/2014 21:16

He is clearly a vile and evil pig. Unless you condemn him publicly on FB right now it means you actually support him.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 26/09/2014 21:18

YANBU. Tell him he's a twunt and then delete him.
