To think this is hideously misogynist

A guy I know has posted a status on Facebook (I know I know) saying that he 'wished more women were like his baby daughter, beautiful, unable to speak or criticise him, and able to get her feet in her mouth'.

AIBU to think this is a disgusting thing to think, never mind actually say on a social media site? Not sure if I'm overreacting, but I feel really sorry for his dd if this is the attitude her dad has to women. I realise it's meant to be tongue in cheek, but judging from previous 'ball and chain' esque comments he's made at social events about his wife, I suspect it does betray a very real and present misogyny.

I think my DH (who is in no way a sexist, but very relaxed about everything) would tell me to chill out and ignore it, but more and more I'm seeing this sort of thing as the tip of the sexist iceberg. Am I going crazy, or is this man a knuckle dragging Neanderthal?

Ugh. That's creepy as fuck.

AnyFucker · 26/09/2014 21:27

If I saw this on my FB, I would reply thus :

"How interesting that you make the parallel between your baby daughter being able to innocently suck her own toes and the sexual acrobatics of making your vagina accessible to any comer whilst simultaneously keeping your gob shut"

I would welcome the fall out to that

thenightsky · 26/09/2014 21:28

I'd have to post on FB asking him to remove the comment and explain exactly why. Hopefully he will be deeply ashamed when you point out the vileness of his comment.

UterusUterusGhali · 26/09/2014 21:29

I would deffinately say something. But I'm a Goady Fucker.

gincamparidryvermouth · 26/09/2014 21:31

My goady fucker contribution would probably be "#ianwatkins"

MiniTheMinx · 26/09/2014 21:33

I wouldn't say a thing, I would leave him to it. I guess the comment will always be there, don't allow him to have it removed. It's comments like this that let you see someone for who they really are.

AnyFucker · 26/09/2014 21:35

good point, gin

fuzzpig · 26/09/2014 21:38

DD (7) was swinging on one of those spinny pole things at the playground the other day and playing about standing up/leaning back to make it go faster etc... The dad of one of her friends walked past and said "bit young for pole dancing isn't she?"

FFS. Ashamed to say I was too gobsmacked to respond.

On a break between truck journeys, placidjoy?

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/09/2014 21:43

I'd just comment "that doesn't read how I imagine you meant it to".

MiniTheMinx · 26/09/2014 21:44

Accuse publicly of having incestuous paedophile fantasies

That is why its best to leave alone and leave the comment to sit there in perpetuity.

thenightsky · 26/09/2014 21:44

gins IanWatkins thing... simple but effective.

fuzzpig · 26/09/2014 21:44

That's amazingly restrained Alis!

5madthings · 26/09/2014 21:45

Fucking hell that is sick. I would have to say something, but where do you begin?!!

I like anyfuckers response.

ithoughtofitfirst · 26/09/2014 21:45

I bet he thought that was well witty.

Bar steward.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/09/2014 21:46

I like Rainbow's, "and this is the world we are in, where she will grow up and some guy will think the same thing about her that you just wrote"

I am, I'm afraid, just the sort of person who starts FB wars with people who spout nonsense.

AnyFucker · 26/09/2014 21:48

placid are you defending this ?

placidjoy123 · 26/09/2014 21:50

Longtalljosie
you are so perceptive. We need more.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/09/2014 21:51

fuzz it would make him think, rather than immediately shut down and get defensive.

"What does she mean?...oh fuck".

Just gives them the time to work out what is wrong with what has been said themselves.

Obviously if the response was a dense one, I'd spell it out in plain English.

AnyFucker · 26/09/2014 21:51

more what ? more offensive imagery ?

placidjoy123 · 26/09/2014 21:54

I'm with Alicevilatropiis. The best advice so far.

placidjoy123 · 26/09/2014 21:56

Alisvolatropiis

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/09/2014 22:00

The problem is that I think he very much reads how it means it too. It's hateful to women and, at the very least, pretty disgusting about his daughter.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/09/2014 22:04

Not many misogynists have the self awareness to know that they do hate women though. They think they're normal.
