I would argue that driving to an out of town supermarket is the frumpy option.

Nope. Sorry, you're not selling me. :)
No way is driving to pick up the weekly shop 'frumpy'.
It may be a lot of things, environmentally bad etc, but deffo not frumpy

But a shopping trolley is Grin

dippydora69 · 24/09/2014 16:16

Of course, if it's in the dailymail, it MUST be true.

So am I the only person who thought, every time I saw thread title, that the op was asking if she would be unreasonable to buy an old lady a shopping trolley? :)

wecandothecancan · 24/09/2014 16:26

Ha haI can see it now.

All this women buying ole lady shopping trollies. They will be on Relationships Board in 6 mths time crying:-

'My husband has left me for a younger, sexy, unfrumpy woman. :( I can't imagine why!' [puzzled]

stainedglassheart · 24/09/2014 16:45

Thank you for all the suggestions. The Rolser brand seems to have the most choice and innovations. I'll get a Logci, foldable one with four wheels so I can push instead of pull it, think it's on Page 1 of their videos on their website.

PacificDogwood · 25/09/2014 10:14

Well.
I just carried two bag of small amount of shopping home.
I think I am going to get a mid-range Rolser one and then upgrade as required Grin

PacificDogwood · 25/09/2014 10:15

Oh, yes, the Rolser website has a number of trolleys for people under 5 feet.

PacificDogwood · 25/09/2014 10:18

I like this one, but think the wheels are made of plastic?

Should I repost this in S&B? Wink

gotthemoononastick · 25/09/2014 12:13

I am an ancient wicker trolley user. The trolley is ancient too.Love it and it looks good in the hallway and hides all the shopping bags in it's basket.

We get loads of admiring or pitying glances...don't know which.

partialderivative · 25/09/2014 12:51

Why haven't I got one?

Why haven't I had one for years!

I live about 1/3 of a mile from a large Tesco, driving is a bit naff for that distance, but walking back with arms being pulled off is not pleasant.

I want one now!

Ideally I'd like one with a separate gin bottle compartment that cunningly disguises how many you have tucked in there.

(I am a 56 y/o male)

diddl · 25/09/2014 12:57

I usually bike & have paniers & on the odd occasion that I walk use a rucksack.

did think a trolley would be handy if I need to walk & would be buying heavy stuff.

In the local shop I couldn't see anything for less than 100Euro!!

Futurebird · 25/09/2014 15:26

I can't believe how much ageism/misogyny there is on here. If my OH left me for someone else because I use this instead of dumb shopping bags, good riddance!

HappyAgainOneDay · 25/09/2014 15:38

I've had the same one for 40 years and people stare at it now because it's a bit dilapidated...... but I don't care.

I would prefer one with hard sides (like mine) rather than a 'bag' type. They still have to be lifted onto and off buses or trains and a solid type is more versatile.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 25/09/2014 15:59

At our local Farmers Market all the Young Things wheel trolleys round. I'm not sure they are 'old biddy' items any more?

Esp if you get a 'snazzy' one... Grin

Futurebird · 25/09/2014 16:01

Mine just turned up. I love it! Can't wait to shop with it... Biddy biddy

I like the square red one on lakeland. Ir doesnt look so old ladyish and looks really useful.

PacificDogwood · 25/09/2014 21:30

Oh, how exciting, Futurebird - congratulations! Grin

You do need to give us feedback here, of course, please?

"So am I the only person who thought, every time I saw thread title, that the op was asking if she would be unreasonable to buy an old lady a shopping trolley?"

No, I also thought that, JuanPotatoTwo. I opened the thread thinking what a lovely thing to do and wondering whether the old lady in question was someone the OP regularly saw struggling with shopping or perhaps someone who couldn't afford to buy their own!

ineveram · 25/09/2014 22:50

EMBRACE Your Old Age!

I LOVE being old. That's why I am buying a shopping trolley (like me dear ole MIL).

Anybody that says otherwise is just plain ole mean!

Laymizzrarb · 25/09/2014 23:19

I have used one for 20 years (i'm 47) . I don't care what anyone thinks Grin. Why pull your arms out their sockets because of what others think? They are just jealous because they haven't got the balls!
Enjoy your trolley liberation OP!

LarrytheCucumber · 26/09/2014 08:53

I don't think the one in the OPs picture is an old lady trolley at all. The old ladies round here have those Sholley types that are cuboid and have four wheels.

FergusSingsTheBlues · 26/09/2014 08:56

Enough of the frumpy! In Spain everybody has one, it's not seen as being any odder than a handbag. They're brilliant. I had one, they're awesome and you can even get pretty ones, gasp. Not all tartan things.

madamemuddle · 26/09/2014 09:19

I bought my Mum one a bit like that from Past Times. It's brilliant.

Such a good idea and much easier than lugging heavy shopping bags around.

We need to start a new trend...

PacificWerewolf · 26/10/2014 21:23

Well, I am reviving this thread because I took delivery of this beauty yesterday and need to show it off Grin

'Tis v lovely and not at all old-ladyish.
Takes 20kg, vair stylish, from Spain and German test winner Grin.
I am very happy and had to share my joy.

fatlazymummy · 26/10/2014 21:53

Wow, I'm impressed! Enjoy your shopping trips.
