No gloating.
No blaming.

Just appreciation for a huge turnout and a peaceful process.

OOAOML well said! and thank you for your hard work during the campaign.

OOAOML · 19/09/2014 07:51

OK, BogQueen fair enough. It was just a wish I was expressing, I do realise that a lot of people were upset. In the run up to the vote, a lot of people commented on almost half the country being upset, and now the reality is here.

I'll bow out. Wishing you all the best.

CharlieSierra · 19/09/2014 07:52

Hinting at powers over tax. Lol, can't see it being much! And of course, then Enhlsnd/Wales/NI will want the same, so in the interest of fairness, we will all end up with the same! What a waste of money and resources to end up back at square one!

What's wrong with all ending up with the same devolved power? We won't be back at square one, we'll all have gained more autonomy.

OOAOML · 19/09/2014 07:52

Are not were in my defence I have hardly slept in several days. probably best I don't post anyway.

EarthWindFire · 19/09/2014 07:52

I hope it's not going to be sniping too.

I have actually had some nice messages this am from some of my very firm yes voting friends.

RJnomore · 19/09/2014 07:53

But we don't have a conservative government, and no one, Scottish English or otherwise, actually voted for the government we do have.

I think that's been forgotten.

EarthWindFire · 19/09/2014 07:53

Flowers to everyone

HeySoulSister · 19/09/2014 07:55

Nothing's wrong with it charlie!!

It's just the big fuss in order to get it! New powers for ALL will be a good thing. Scotland won't like it if we all end up with the same but.... Oh well!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/09/2014 07:57

Scotland would like it, as at moment we contribute more than we receive.
Sorry to rain on your smug parade.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/09/2014 08:05

That's possibly the saddest thing about all this to me. That people will continue to believe all this nonsense about subsidising the Scots.

WildThong · 19/09/2014 08:06

fanjo people will believe what they choose to believe, that's life.

Luckytwo · 19/09/2014 08:06

It's interesting that the no vote was pretty high in SNP constiuencies. You'd have thought salmond would have been able to convince them. Whereas the councils coming in as yes were all labour areas,I think.

PenisesAreNotPink · 19/09/2014 08:08

I think the turnout was just incredible given how horribly apathetic people are - it's been incredibly inspiring.

I'm so inspired by the Yes campaign, people don't vote for change when things are bad, they only vote for change when things are good.

For the Yes campaign to get so many people to vote for change is just really amazing. I'm not a Salmond fan but he has done a great job and I felt really proud of his speech - he should be very pleased with his work.

What a lovely model of proper democracy we've just demonstrated - it's modelled round the world and is a great counterpoint to the hideous 'elections' in Russia, Iraq and even America when they had to have the result legally declared.

I feel really proud to be British (and Scottish) today

WildThong · 19/09/2014 08:12

Mr Salmond looked gutted at his speech. I do wonder if he had brought just a bit more of that humility and humbleness to his campaigning if he would have won more people over.

The turnout was amazing! I would be interested to know how the 16 - 18s voted, wonder if this is a stat that can be worked out?

HeySoulSister · 19/09/2014 08:13

Yes but it can only be a great thing for the uk/wales/NI to benefit too! Smile

Win win

Beastofburden · 19/09/2014 08:13

People are grieving and angry. There is a lot we have all learned from the campaign and I do think that many things will change for all four nations of the UK. We should all get more separate powers and our MPs should only vote on what concerns our own country.

I think that the bribes were not very effective in getting a no vote. They just looked desperate and made ppl realise that there was a real chance of a yes.

I'm afraid my sense of what sank it, is that Salmond went into the campaign without having sorted out the currency issue. Perhaps I am wrong about that.

Hugs to all sad and angry yes voters. We luffs Scotland and we would have supported you if you had chosen yes. Personally I am glad you are staying.

Celticlass2 · 19/09/2014 08:14

Incredible turnout, and I think the yes campaign can be really proud of the campaign they have run. They have had the odds stocked against them from the begining.
I think it's really sad that Scotland had the opportunity to make a seismic change, and they chose to listen to the naysayers and keep the status quo [ Sad

JudysPriest · 19/09/2014 08:19

Huge hug for both yes and no.

WildThong · 19/09/2014 08:21

OFGS, still with the 'naysayer' get over yourself, and stop with the insults. Maybe if there had been less of that during the campaign you'd have won more people over instead of alienating them.

I repeat, Yes lost because the case wasn't made
Stop blaming everyone else, sounds pathetic

BadLad · 19/09/2014 08:21

I think YES would have done better if they hadn't consistently implied that anyone content with the status quo was not Scottish enough, or had something wrong with them.

I will say what I said elsewhere.

It is much easier to be kind from a winning position.

And some people can't even seem to manage that.

Depressing.

BadLad · 19/09/2014 08:23

I repeat, Yes lost because the case wasn't made

Indeed. Salmond's most memorable moment in the debates was when he said "You are in bed with the Tories". OK, it was a quip that momentarily flustered Darling, but it's hardly much of an argument.

indyandlara · 19/09/2014 08:26

I cannot understand why people think this referendum should never have happened. SNP are our majority government and their policy has always been to have a referendum vote. They were elected by Scotland so of course this vote should have happened. Sadly I have no hope at all that Westminster will follow through on their last minor pledges. If this was truly on the table then Devo Max would have been permitted on the ballot paper.

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 19/09/2014 08:29

Brew for everyone this morning. Thinking of you all.
