To be really annoyed with the debate today on Loose Women?

Firstly, let me say, I do NOT watch this shite usually, I flicked it on as background noise this afternoon but was caught by the debate they were having, namely Domestic Abuse.

The whole debate was centred around the basis of the woman being the victim and the man, the perpetrator. They had a guest speaker on, I think she was affiliated with the refuge system in some way, very anti-men, and brought up these statistics about 95% of perpetrators being male etc.

This makes me so angry. The only reason the statistic is so unbalanced is because men don't come forward as often as women probably do.

I am aware of womens refuge's, but are there any for men?

I think far too much emphasis is placed on the male in these cases and is much too overlooked Angry

Just my opinion, rant over.

Ok, this is what the 2012 report says about the parent perpetrators of child fatalities:

(Parent type, number, %)
Father 200 17.1
Father and Other 25 2.1
Mother 318 27.1
Mother and Other 147 12.5
Mother and Father 248 21.2
Total Parents 938 80.0

That's not even close to 350 parents in total, and you can only make it add up to 60% mothers if you add up the Mother, Mother and Other and Mother and Father categories Hmm

So, seriously, he must be talking about a different report, yeah?

Either that or I've got it wrong, of course, which is entirely possible - the report can be downloaded from www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/resource/child-maltreatment-2012 if anyone else would like to look.

Rofl at Tom moaning that he finds us "unsupportive".

Thankyou, poppet, you've made my evening Grin

FlossyMoo · 17/09/2014 20:57

He's not a statistic Tom

Ok so I have a statistic for you Tom

Granted it is only dated until 2005 (1976-2005) however I cannot imaging the statistics taken over 29 years have changed much in the last 9 years.

Homicide Type by Gender, 1976-2005
Victims Offenders
Male Female Male Female
Infanticide 54.6% 45.4% 61.8% 38.2%

Correct me if I'm wrong but that clearly shows fathers kill their children more than mothers do Sad

This was taken from BJS: Bureau of Justice Statistics and they are American stats given the ones you quoted were American stats.

TomLondon · 17/09/2014 20:59

The book is a good 10 years old or more now. But the more recent report still has a high number of infanticides by mothers.

I wonder why it differs between the US and UK. Would it be due to firearms?

FlossyMoo · 17/09/2014 20:59

Oh and heres a link www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htius.pdf

Mmm it didn't copy and paste well 61.8% of children were killed by their father compared to 38.2% of children who were killed by their mother.

FlossyMoo · 17/09/2014 21:00

No Tom it doesn't.

AnyFucker · 17/09/2014 21:02

very, very few men are denied contact with their children by the family court

when this happens, it is usually because them having contact with him is seriously damaging to their physical or emotional health

which is it with you, Tom?

or is their mother a dirty, lying bitch who used you for your earning power ?

Corabell · 17/09/2014 21:02

I'm sure your children are grateful for your "civil disobedience" and will choose your nursing home with due care and respect.

TomLondon · 17/09/2014 21:05

AF it happens more often than you think. I am given no contact with my children and yet I have enhanced CRB clearance and can work around children.....

AnyFucker · 17/09/2014 21:06

yes, Tom, there are a lot of abusive men out there who hide in plain sight

basgetti · 17/09/2014 21:06

What was the reason in the judgement for the no contact?

AnyFucker · 17/09/2014 21:07

what reason did the court give for denying you access to your children ?

Whiskwarrior · 17/09/2014 21:07

Ah, an enhanced CRB check - always a sign of a good father.

Why aren't you paying for your children, if you're so wonderful?

FlossyMoo · 17/09/2014 21:08

Tom TOM come on you have had loads of stats thrown at you that blow your mates out the water. What else you got?

ClaudetteWyms · 17/09/2014 21:09

Wow, just read the whole thread and Tom is really creeping me out with his highly inappropriate posts.

CRB means nowt Tom I once had the misfortune of working with a man who had a conviction of crimes against the elderly. Guess where we worked??? A nursing home Grin

*Disclaimer he was sacked once the company found out.

ithoughtofitfirst · 17/09/2014 21:11

Yeah he's not doing great.

FlossyMoo · 17/09/2014 21:12

I want to play the stats game it was fun. Don't stop now Tom you have us lying feminist right where you want us Grin

ClaudetteWyms · 17/09/2014 21:13

Indeed, boasting about his CRB check and further upthread quoting a defender of incest. My flesh is creeping.

AnyFucker · 17/09/2014 21:15

oh deary me, Tom

I expect your "enhanced CRB check" is woefully out of date, thus not worth the paper it is written on

in 2012, the title was changed to "DBS" (disclosure and barring service)

I am surprised you didn't know that, what with you being heducated man wot works with the kiddiez

TomLondon · 17/09/2014 21:16

Yes I have never committed a crime. That should be the end of the story. I should be left to be a father to my children. Anything else is just hearsay and allegations.

Any attempt by CAFCASS or the courts to superivse me would be a breach of article 8 of the European Human rights convention and should be outlawed. The state should not have the power to interfere in the private lives on citizens.

emotionsecho · 17/09/2014 21:17

Dear me those poor men all those years insisting women are the weaker sex and their sole role in life is to stay at home, bear and look after children, all that time and energy spent fighting against equality for women in education, property, work, pay, voting, and then to cap it all off the sex that carries and gives birth to the children gets custody of the children and the man is expected to pay for the children, oh my heart truly bleeds.

And all those inconvenient statistics about male violence to women, and male violence generally must be so, so hard to cope with.

It's such a cruel unfair world for all those poor men.

basgetti · 17/09/2014 21:18

What was the reason given for no contact?

ClaudetteWyms · 17/09/2014 21:18

Where has the OP gone?
