This is continuation of the previous threads. I'm hoping this can be a thread for civilised debate and discussion from people on both sides of the voting line, and where undecided voters can come and chat and get opinions.

Some of the previous threads have gone downhill. So for the sake of a good discussion can everyone please try to avoid nasty comments about the other side? References to Nazis, people being selfish, stupid, thick etc don't help anyone. This vote will be over and the votes counted in about 48 hours. After that we have to pull together whatever the outcome.

Did he not say he might buy a house here if Yes win. Maybe next door to Sean Connery and Ian McColl.

Oh wait...

NCforAye · 17/09/2014 23:00

a bunch of bigots

Drinks more Wine.

Is anyone else finding it really hard to sleep tonight? I've been on a really intense residential course these past few days, coupled with little sleep, and know I have to be on my feet all day tomorrow and then staying up to see the vote in... and I just can't bloody sleep.

PansOtherPeople · 17/09/2014 23:00

ah well..it would appear it's fine to get sentimental, and be beyond questioning for it..so long as it's pro-UK, and no-one minds. And I have 'dwelt' both in and out of these threads fwiw.
Polls open in a few hours. Hope all goes well afterwards, either way, for Scotland's sake.

SantanaLopez · 17/09/2014 23:01

I feel like Friday is the day of days, rather than tomorrow. Feeling a bit queasy though!

Luckytwo · 17/09/2014 23:01

I've honestly had enough now. I have listened to it all, I heard the arguments for and against, I've swung both ways (forgive me) but on balance I have decided that yes is right - on the basis that it will not go away.
Fortunately for statistically and others I can't vote ( also a relief to me I have to say ).
I do however expect there to be a no in the end. I'm not sure this is helpful as i don't think it will be the end of the matter.

I have to say this though and I can't remember if I've said this before or not.
My home town is Glasgow. My husband and I fully intend to return there when we can, probably in the next 5 years. Due to some crap stuff in the family we've been back a lot more this year than usual, and I have been struck yet again, time after time about what a great city Glasgow is. I've been living in surrey for 20 years but every time I go back it's like I've never been away.

I really really hope this vote is something the country can recover from. I am soooo homesick right now ! :(

squoosh · 17/09/2014 23:02

Pat Kane is definitely on my Top 10 Most Annoying Referendumers list.

WildThong · 17/09/2014 23:02

Yes nc
Obviously we are on opposites sides of the bed so to speak, but it's nerve wracking all the same.

SantanaLopez · 17/09/2014 23:02

Pans- I think tonight is too late for any more facts and figures and debates. Everyone is tired. Everyone wants this over. We are sad, and we are anxious, and MN is a safe place for us to vent.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 23:03

Pans, on the earlier threads the No voters were moaned at for being unemotional. We were told people wanted to hear the positives, hear why we wanted to be part of the union rather than just boring facts and figures. Told we had no passion or enthusiasm.

We can't really win.

colleysmill · 17/09/2014 23:04

I've lurked on many of these threads - I don't have a vote but it's been memorizing over the last few years, months and weeks. It would be brilliant if the level of engagement I've seen about independence could be translated to the next general election I can vote in.

Even as someone completely impartial I actually have no idea how I would vote (if I could) - like everything in life there are pro's, cons, and then the great unknown.

Watching with interest (because that's all I can do)

BakerStreetSaxRift · 17/09/2014 23:05

Stats in Deeedeee's absence, I really appreciate your thoughts on that piece. You've articulated my thoughts in a way I couldn't manage because it made me too mad!

PansOtherPeople · 17/09/2014 23:05

agree Santana....really anxious feelings about what Friday will bring, with either a YES or a NO.

flippinada · 17/09/2014 23:06

I don't mind admitting it, I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and weepy about this myself.

There's no two ways around it, it's this massive, irrevocable decision and I'm plain old scared about what's going to happen.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 23:06

NC, I've not slept properly in at least a week. Probably more :(

I am not a doomsday, miserable sod type of person. I'm probably realist rather than pessimist in day to day life. I've taken plenty of risks...so I'm not just a mega worrier IYSWIM. But sleeeeeepppppp.....

Everyone's flag, everyone's culture, everyone's streets and everyone's country.

Highlight of the whole campaign. Hope it didn't come too late.

SantanaLopez · 17/09/2014 23:07

I have to say, I am looking forward to MN returning to MIL and reading book threads!

NCforAye · 17/09/2014 23:07

Opposite ends of the bed is a very apt analogy! Grin

Brian Cox appears to be still breathing.

Paramedics can stand down.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 23:09

Glad it wasn't just me BakerStreet. It sort of sounded like she knew what she was on about, she throws around the right terms. But it's actually a pretty poor analysis which doesn't really show a good understanding at all.

I am however slightly paranoid that it was written by either Deee or a friend, it didn't occur to me until afterwards that she's in a creative type industry I think. Sorry if that's the case Deee, not trying to be mean I promise.

He's probably got a flight to catch back to the US

Luckytwo · 17/09/2014 23:10

I wasn't convinced by brown tbh. It's not your flag, your culture. ..... Blah blah.
He's got his own agenda, I'm sure and won't want to give up his WM seat

squoosh · 17/09/2014 23:10

Nah, I think he came back to life when he remembered his roots needed doing!

JustSayNoNoNo · 17/09/2014 23:12

Whod've thunk IndyRef would have generated so many threads. Is this a record?

So many posts, I have been unable to keep up, but have enjoyed those I did read.

Tomorrow/Friday is day none of us alive will forget. Hope the right outcome prevails!

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 23:13

I think he did tap in to how a lot of Nos are feeling LuckyTwo. I was on a stall at the weekend and there was a yes one nearby. They had a huge flag being waved constantly. A lot of the yes stuff has been quite heavy on the flag and scottish culture type stuff. Which has been frustrating, because just the fact that we're voting no doesn't mean those things don't still matter to us IYSWIM?

OP posts:
Wynona · 17/09/2014 23:14

I really worry how the country is going to heal itself. I wish you well whichever way you vote.
