This is continuation of the previous threads. I'm hoping this can be a thread for civilised debate and discussion from people on both sides of the voting line, and where undecided voters can come and chat and get opinions.

Some of the previous threads have gone downhill. So for the sake of a good discussion can everyone please try to avoid nasty comments about the other side? References to Nazis, people being selfish, stupid, thick etc don't help anyone. This vote will be over and the votes counted in about 48 hours. After that we have to pull together whatever the outcome.

The bookies still have No waaaay out in front. Intriguing.

Well it depends doesn't it, I read earlier (and no I don't have a link so people can believe it or not) that the bets actually placed in Scotland are at 80% for yes vote and results are balanced because of the bets placed from outwith Scotland.

AnnieHoo · 17/09/2014 21:33

Good idea SirC Smile!

Electriclaundryland · 17/09/2014 21:33

I think if you've got a British passport you can renew it. You can be dual nationality. Not sure about children or first time passports.

Cambiodenombre · 17/09/2014 21:33

What if you're not Scottish by birth? Presumably you can't have Scottish nationality foisted upon you based on residence..

OneNight · 17/09/2014 21:34

Tunnocks

I think 50% might be pissed off but I suspect many might be not a little relieved and happy at least to have achieved the Devomax on offer. At least with a No vote, the door is not closed to further change as well and the chances for finanical and social instability are much reduced to allow that further work to go forward. You've heard from me and other posters that we are re-engaging with the political process and my hope is that many of those who have worked in the referendum so far will do the same.

That is my fond belief anyway. (And I would feel happier explaining myself to Donald's shade on that basis.)

combust22 · 17/09/2014 21:35

My OH is threatening to move to England if it's a Yes. I won't be moving.

SirChenjin · 17/09/2014 21:35

Thanks Latte

Cambiodenombre - I don't get it either, I really don't. There are so many massive unknowns that will affect our jobs, currency, pensions, house values, education, economy...the list is endless. While it's one thing to be disillusioned with WM, the alternatives are so vague that I can't understand for the life of me why so many people are content to walk blindly down a road without asking really tough questions of their Government.

FrankelandFilly · 17/09/2014 21:35

The big bookmakers will be offering the same odds across the country, it's not in their interests to offer better odds in one area than another. If they have "No" at shorter odds it is reflecting the sum total of bets across their customer base.

WildThong · 17/09/2014 21:36

Oh god they're shouting "yes we can!"

Bob the builder!

Nationality : the best thing is to look at the "velvet divorce" of Slovakia and the Czech republic.
All currency and passports remained valid until the replacements were in place
BUT
that was split where every adult had a vote : unlike this one where less than 10% of adults have a vote (England and WAles and scots resident there in are excluded)
AND
it is a secession - the first in the history of the EU - which Spain in particular will fight tooth and nail to block because Catalonia would vote 95% for independence in ten minutes and thus bankrupt spain

SirChenjin · 17/09/2014 21:38

But how can you have dual nationality?? (I know, sorry, it's those pesky details again...) How can we have nationality of something that no longer exists?

TillHammerZeit · 17/09/2014 21:38

I spoke to some Yes campaigners today. They couldn't answer half of my questions,or were terrible vague about their answers. There are so many unknowns. I really can't understand why so many are convinced that it will be a change for the better. And yes,I have read arguments for both sides.

wigglylines · 17/09/2014 21:39

Very compelling article IMO on reasons to vote Yes.

A Risk Assessment of the future UK

TalkinPeace · 17/09/2014 21:40

sirchenjin
Nationality :
Yugoslav passports were valid for travel for several years after the breakup of Yugoslavia for the sanity of all involved.

SapphireMoon · 17/09/2014 21:41

Lack of substance as usual from Mr Salmond....

Shenanagins · 17/09/2014 21:41

My big concern is that the yes campaign are acting like winners and some of the undecided's will follow in the excitement.

brontolo · 17/09/2014 21:42

It looks as if Salmond is trying to make himself cry.

AnnieHoo · 17/09/2014 21:43

Oh god they're shouting "yes we can" again.

They'll be nowhere to be seen when the chips are down and they realise that Caledonia ain't so Bella without any £££££££.

grimbletart · 17/09/2014 21:44

The Yes rally seems to have been overtaken by mass hysteria.

combust22 · 17/09/2014 21:44

Fed up of OH now- says Slamond will be in International court charged with war crimes due to the civil war and mass death that will happen after a yes vote.

I've gone to bed, I pissiing sick of the whole thing.

SapphireMoon · 17/09/2014 21:45

Being swept along by excitement...bloody scary.
Also lets hope dont intimidate with the invitation by Salmond to 'campaign til the last minute' round neghbourhoods etc.

EarthWindFire · 17/09/2014 21:45

Very compelling article IMO on reasons to vote Yes.

Sorry but IMO it isn't.

wigglylines - that was written by Laura Eaton Lewis who is "an activist, part of the New Leadership Assembly, Director of The Work Room, artist, writer, and member of the Scottish Greens"

Hardly the most qualified or neutral party, is she? Grin
