This is continuation of the previous threads. I'm hoping this can be a thread for civilised debate and discussion from people on both sides of the voting line, and where undecided voters can come and chat and get opinions.

Some of the previous threads have gone downhill. So for the sake of a good discussion can everyone please try to avoid nasty comments about the other side? References to Nazis, people being selfish, stupid, thick etc don't help anyone. This vote will be over and the votes counted in about 48 hours. After that we have to pull together whatever the outcome.

it's quite hollow to hear that 'Scotland will always get the government it votes for.' when you realise that almost half the population won't be living in the country it voted for, under the governance it voted for.

^ Exactly Spirited. I certainly didn't vote for SNP in SP elections and accept that as democracy - it is absolutely HOLLOW to suggest voting yes would mean this.

grovel · 17/09/2014 18:06

Would a YES vote mean that I'd no longer get the House of Bruar catalogue? That would be an upside.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 18:06

It's not so much his delivery (although I think it was excellent) but the validity of his arguments and the fact it highlights the huge weaknesses in the Yes campaign. They haven't been laid out well enough, clearly enough. Darling hasn't been good enough in the debates - he let Salmond tie him in knots sometimes even though Darling was in the right. Someone needed to make plain the extent of the lies and uncertainty, and I think he did that with aplomb.

Angry Salmond

After I free Scotland and generally get the respect I deserve worldwide, I intend to get drunk and commentate on women's wrestling

IrnBruTheNoo How do you square voting Green with planning on funding the state through oil revenues? How do you square it with the additional carbon cost of a 2nd group of offices, printers, computers etc that will be required to run a new state? I don't get it. Mind you, I suppose most of Salmond's policies are recycled!

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 18:20

And with a cut in air passenger duty which would make the most polluting form of transport cheaper Rose

Do you remember in the last GE, for some reason there were huge queues outside polling stations and they closed, locking some of the electorate out without a vote?

Given the massive number of people in Scotland who have registered to vote, what would happen if there were still queues at closing time?

Fontella · 17/09/2014 18:21

The story that was told on here about the hairdresser who thought if she didn't vote it would count as no

I can't remember who wrote it.

The word has obviously gone out .. just saw this on twitter:

If the vote is tomorrow how long before we find out the results?

Roseformeplease · 17/09/2014 18:24

The head counting officer was on R4 this morning and she said, if you were in a queue at 10pm, then you would be able to vote. Apparently, that changed a couple of years ago for all votes in the UK.

SantanaLopez · 17/09/2014 18:25

That's the million pound question username!

There's a list floating around which says 5am, but the official counting regs are indicating that it will be nearer 6am/7am on Friday morning.

TalkinPeace · 17/09/2014 18:25

Wildthong
NOBODY who joined the queue by 10pm was stopped from voting.
They close the queue but not the booth.
If you CBA to turn up at the polling booth until 9.59pm frankly you deserve to miss out.

WildThong · 17/09/2014 18:28

That's a bit harsh talking, Hmm
I'll be there by 11 am at the latest, who said I couldn't be arsed?

beatricequimby · 17/09/2014 18:28

Irn Bru if it's a yes tomorrow I will vote Green too. Sadly we are in a tiny minority as Green voters in Scotland. I had hoped the Greens would get the 10th Scottish seat in the European Parliament. But they were beaten by UKIP.

If I thought there was any real chance of an iScotland being led by the Greens instead of the Snp I would be tempted to vote yes. But there isn't. The Greens have done worse in recent Scottish Parliamentary elections too. Only 2 seats across the whole of Scotland in 2011. Patrick Harvie is not going to President of an
Independent Scotland.

Comingfoccacia · 17/09/2014 18:32

Scotland is close to my heart having lived in Scotland (highlands and lowlands) and getting married in Edinburgh. So i wish the Scottish people all the best with tomorrow's referendum and may democracy be the winner. And if it is yes will Sept 18th be Scottish Independence Day? Good luck Scotland!

SantanaLopez · 17/09/2014 18:33

I don't think Alex Salmond is a fantastic figure to lead Scotland in independence. I'd most likely vote Greens in.

But there's not going to be a Scottish election until 2016- so Salmond will be the one leading the set up of an independent Scotland! If you don't think he's the right figure, you're giving him a hell of chance.

TeamScotland · 17/09/2014 18:33

Where did you find that picture of me squoosh Grin?

Numanoid · 17/09/2014 18:34

Irn Bru if it's a yes tomorrow I will vote Green too. Sadly we are in a tiny minority as Green voters in Scotland.

I'm a Green Yes too. Grin

MindReader · 17/09/2014 18:39

why is this thread going so slowly now?
has everyone biffed off elsewhere?

SantanaLopez · 17/09/2014 18:40

It has slowed down, hasn't it?

I think everyone is just waiting for the results now.

grandtheftmanual · 17/09/2014 18:41

I said at the weekend that I was pleasantly surprised all the No signs near my parents home appear to have remained intact. I've just driven down to Mum and Dad's this evening and all the No signs have gone. I'm guessing it's not because all the no voters have suddenly decided to vote yes. Sad

AuntieStella · 17/09/2014 18:41

"If the vote is tomorrow how long before we find out the results?"

It'll be 6-7am Friday, unless something goes very awry.

Sallyingforth · 17/09/2014 18:43

I'm a Green Yes too

That's going to be tricky Numanoid.

  • cutting down on oil and gas
  • no fracking
  • no nuclear power stations
  • no more subsidies from the UK to pay for wind and wave power.

What will you do when the lights go out, and how will you keep those hungry pensioners from freezing to death in winter?

Username12345 · 17/09/2014 18:43

Oooh so soon. I thought it'd be a week or something.

So close now. The weekend is going to be ... interesting.

Good luck to all voters Smile

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 18:44

from bbc news "Police Scotland is investigating a complaint that an electoral counting officer in Edinburgh has made public details of the postal ballots cast in the council area."

Can anyone else shed some light on this from a PP upthread???
