To fear the outcome of Indyref?

My husband is half Scottish and half English and I am seriously worried that he will be heartbroken on Thursday if Scotland votes Yes! He is worried that our little boy's British identity will be undermined. Thus he took this picture and is hoping that all of us who care will take a similar photo with a similar message to show Scotland that we care.
Not all of us get to vote, and it’s Scotland’s decision - and Scotland’s alone - to make. But all 60 million of us care what that decision is, and we have a few days now to show everyone in Scotland how much.

We shared this message on Facebook and Twitter and many have followed - here is our hope that those of us on Mumsnet who care about the British identity of our children will follow.

Please take your photo and choose your hashtag #LetsStayTogether #PleaseDontGo #NoThanks

awaynboilyurheid I love your username. Reminds me of my Granny!

It's shocking that the Yes camp think Independence will be better monetary-wise for Scotland. It will be financial suicide

Brightbutchilly · 16/09/2014 21:50

Ah Phaedra that's a shame you missed out. I don't have anything personal on my profile (and in fact this particular username was created just for the indyref threads I don't usually say where I live) but I have in the past registered with a Mumsnet Local board which is why they emailed me.

Celticlass2 · 16/09/2014 21:51

Jeez that photograph has made me cringe Blush

Ulysses · 16/09/2014 21:52

Another No Voter here who is worried for our country's future. All this talk as if we are some oppressed minority, it's so ridiculous but leaves me shaking with rage as to what injustices are going to come because of the financial mess we are being lured into.

browneyedgirl86 · 16/09/2014 21:52

I know no one asked me this but the Kevin Bridges thing was where a user tweeted him him and asked if all his pals are all still leaning toward a no Vote?

Kevin tweeted back "All of them are voting yes. Edited and cut short to ensure "balance" something I had no control over.

JennyPiccolo · 16/09/2014 21:53

Local yes groups are still looking for volunteers for polling day, please do contact your local shop or group.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 16/09/2014 21:53

bright I think it's the only poll (other than the instant type ones you see) that has given yes a comfortable majority.

Incidentally several times when reading things on the daily record (oh the shame) I've responded to their polls asking which way you intend to vote. You then see the results and the few times I done it yes was always miles ahead. By few times I mean one, then another a few days later. I realise that you aren't logging into anything before but it was interesting. Even more so when they came out as no. I actually laughed at the front page of the record in the shop today. Even if I was no I would be cringing at that.

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 21:55

110%, is that a thing? Thought not

Kevin Bridges is magic.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 21:56

"our vow"? Lovelyrita? Yes, that was kind of cringey. Better ways to expresss sincerity!

Numanoid · 16/09/2014 21:56

I actually laughed at the front page of the record in the shop today. Even if I was no I would be cringing at that.

I thought the one on Sunday (can't remember which paper it was now) was cringeworthy too. The cover with the two men in kilts, one holding a Union Jack, the other a Saltire. There was a cheesy headline to go along with it, too. Grin

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 16/09/2014 21:56

David Cameron is that you?

No going back, moment of silence in the booth... sounds so familiar!

Ps there would be more questions answered if you, if that is you, had sat down and discussed them but you refused.

disclaimer I jest, I know you are not actually David Cameron.

Brightbutchilly · 16/09/2014 21:57

unlucky that fact that people aren't arguing doesn't mean they can't. Personally I'm just a bit tired of people, as you are once again, telling me I haven't thought about it and that I don't understand it.

I was going to keep off these threads until the OPs lovely picture got me all cross.

awaynboilyurheid · 16/09/2014 21:57

Betty thanks its def a Granny saying !

yes it will be a financial disaster it will but the amount of head in the sand it will all be fine la la la la attitudes really scare me .
I keep talking with friends that this is an economic decision Scotland has and has always had its own strong identity within the UK so we have to base our decision on what is better economically for future generations and I believe we are better in Britain. So many countries are almost bankrupt Ireland Spain why would we want to do that to my beloved country ?

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 21:58

Great interview with Salmond.

BettyFlour · 16/09/2014 21:59

BrightButchChilly just because the bosses are reassuring your employees doesn't mean they aren't moving. It simply means that they are doing just that - "reassuring" them! Regardless of what the media spouts, companies will move south as Scotland will no longer be in the EU.

But anyway, setting that to one side, the Yes camp can't for one minute believe that Scotland will be financially BETTER off with Independence?? Madness.

Regardless, taxes will HAVE to be raised, and all the free benefits (University fees, prescriptions, NHS) which don't exist in England, will be no longer as Scotland will have to fund itself.

wigglybeezer · 16/09/2014 21:59

NUmanoid, it was The Sunday Post of course!

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 22:03

For those who are interested, 3 polls have come out this evening:

Scottish Independence Poll (Survation):
YES - 48%
NO - 52%

Scottish Independence Poll (Opinium):
YES - 48%
NO - 52%

Scottish Independence Poll (ICM):
YES - 48%
NO - 52%

Bit of a difference in the Don't knows though:

Scottish Independence Poll (Survation)
YES - 44%
NO - 48%
(DK) - 8%

Scottish Independence Poll (Opinium):
YES - 45%
NO - 49%
(DK) - 6%

Scottish Independence Poll (ICM):
YES - 41%
NO - 45%
(DK) - 14%

BettyFlour · 16/09/2014 22:03

Couldn't agree with you more awaynboilyurheid.

Voting No is about self-perseverance. It doesn't have to be a love affair with England. It can be a solely "selfish" decision. What's best for Scotland? Independence is a nice, warm, fluffy thought - but it isn't financially practical.

snapple · 16/09/2014 22:03

Do you know I kept thinking that indyref was a poster who was a victim of domestic violence - or in danger - I genuinely did not realise it was about the vote for independence - how did I get that so wrong?

BettyFlour · 16/09/2014 22:04

Bloody hell. It's close.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 16/09/2014 22:06

Oh for goodness sake betty either catch up or don't get involved. Scotland funds it's own prescriptions and universities through our own budget. The one allocated to us out of the pot we contribute to.

BettyFlour · 16/09/2014 22:07

When I was young and stupid, I wanted Independence.

Now I'm older and wiser, I realise Independence would be suicide.

Brightbutchilly · 16/09/2014 22:08

LovelyRita I have trained myself never to look at the front page of the a Record. It is much better for my blood pressure.

However I did here BCC Scotland reporting on the 'vow' the morning.

I'm absolutely sure Hmm that Mr Cameron is a gentleman if absolute integrity but the last time Mr Clegg signed a pledge on tuition fees he demonstrated shortly thereafter exactly how much his word was worth. The fact that this is called a 'vow' and he said 'sorry' doesn't mean I forgotten.

Mr Milliband meanwhile. He may be sincere but I just have a terribly hard time getting past the fact he stabbed his own brother in the back.

Which leaves me putting my faith in 'Dave'. The problem with this is that he's a Conservative. They promised all sorts at the 1979 referendum and what did we get in the 1980s? Oh yes, the Poll Tax.

So, even though I respect the dearly held views of No voters and if the nation votes no on Thursday we'll just have get on with it, I won't be holding my breath.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 16/09/2014 22:08

I quite like Brown but as an opposition back bencher he can't promise us anything. But good to see Dimbelby on tv. I always miss him over the summer.

I wonder where he goes?

rainbowinmyroom · 16/09/2014 22:09

What is to fear? Gah, people have gone to war over independence. This is a democratic process. Get some perspective here.
